MMA Weekly reports that Sean Pierson vs. Rick Story will be the sixth welterweight fight on the UFC 158 fight card, set to take place in Montreal on March 16.

The card is headlined by Georges St-Pierre’s long awaited title defence against Nick Diaz, while Rory MacDonald gets a chance to avenge his loss to Carlos Condit in the co-main.

Pierson adds to the Canadian flavour of the card. A former Toronto police officer, Pierson has gone 2-2 in his last four matches. Having lost two back-to-back fights in 2011 against Jake Ellenberger and Kim Dong Hyun, he did well last year with two wins against Jake Hecht and Lance Benoist.

Going against him is Story who—between 2010 and 2011—was rocketing towards a title shot by winning six straight fights and defeating the likes of Thiago Alves and current top welterweight contender Johny Hendricks.

However, he’s gone 1-3 since, losing to Charlie Brenneman, Martin Kampmann and Demian Maia in his last match, leaving his future at the promotion in a precarious situation.

The remaining fights on the UFC 158 card will also feature Canadian welterweights. Patrick Côté takes on Bobby Voelker, and Jordan Mein takes on Dan Miller.

Côté will be making his welterweight debut after losing to Cung Le last July and then winning by disqualification due to punches to the back of the head against Alessio Sakara. He was expected to rematch Sakara, but has instead decided to drop down a division.

UFC 158 will be a big night for the whole division. Not just because the champion defends his belt once again but because the No. 2 contender, Johny Hendricks, will also be fighting for his shot.

Dong Hyun Kim will try to rebound from the first loss of his career, but he’ll have to do it against a fighter also looking for a little redemption.

Kim will face Sean Pierson in a welterweight bout at UFC 141, the promotion’s year-ending pay-per-view at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The UFC announced the fight Monday.

UFC 141 will be headlined by the promotional debut of former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, who will be immediately tested by the return of former UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar.

Kim (14-1-1, 1 NC, 5-1, 1 NC UFC) was drilled by a Carlos Condit flying knee at UFC 132 in July, then finished with punches on the ground for the first loss of his career – technically. At UFC 94, Kim lost a split decision to Karo Parisyan, but that loss was overturned to a no contest when Parisyan’s drug test came back positive for banned substances.

Prior to his loss to Condit, who went on to get a top contenders fight with BJ Penn that turned into a title fight against Georges St-Pierre at the end of this month after UFC president Dana White pulled Nick Diaz from the fight, Kim had won three straight with decision wins over TJ Grant, Amir Sadollah and Nate Diaz.

Pierson (11-5, 1-1 UFC) was riding a six-fight winning streak going into a bout with Jake Ellenberger at UFC 129 in Toronto. But the Toronto native was stopped just over halfway through the first round by Ellenberger, who went on to fight with Jake Shields last month that he won with a devastating 53-second TKO.

UFC 141 will be Pierson’s first fight on American soil since the third fight of his career – more than 11 years ago. The other 15 fights in his pro career have come in his native Canada.

Aside from the heavyweight contenders bout between Overeem and Lesnar, UFC 141 is also expected to include a light heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Vladimir Matyushenko and a welterweight bout between Jon Fitch and Johny Hendricks.

At UFC 129, the Knockout of the Night bonus will be worth an all-time high $129,000. Jake Ellenberger may have just earned the biggest payday of his MMA career.

Ellenberger knocked out Sean Pierson with a brutal counter left hook in the first round of their fight in front of a record crowd estimated at 55,000 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

After that counter left hook knocked Pierson wobbly, Ellenberger landed another right hand on Pierson’s way to the floor, and one more on the ground. Those two shots, however, were unnecessary: It was the left hook that finished Pierson.

Since we talked to Sean Pierson on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, his UFC 129 opponent changed from Brian Foster to Jake Ellenberger after Foster suffered a brain hemorrhage.

While training for a new opponent on less than three weeks notice isn’t ideal, it definitely isn’t the toughest task the 35-year-old has been forced to confront since winning his UFC debut in December.

Shortly after his win over Matt Riddle at UFC 124, Pierson was set to begin a new job as a Toronto Police officer. However, after his Octagon debut, the Toronto Police Service asked Pierson to choose between continuing his UFC career or beginning a new one as a police officer. He couldn’t do both, they said.

Pierson, who began his MMA career in 1999, chose to stick with the UFC.

“I chose to follow the dream,” Pierson said. “I’ve been dreaming of this for 15 years to try and get into the UFC, so it’s a one-time shot, and I was going to go for it.”
