Sean Strickland Has Made Several Controversial Remarks In 2021
Strickland has been in the headlines for arguably the wrong reasons for a good portion of the year, due to several controversial statements he’s made about his past along with his unusual post-fight interviews.
During a post-fight interview following his recent win over Uriah Hall at UFC Vegas 33, Strickland alluded to his desire to kill someone in a fight. This immediately drew strong reactions from media, fans, and fellow athletes alike.
Strickland also claimed that he would probably be the last person the UFC would want as a champion and hinted at an open obsession with pornography.
Strickland was supposed to fight Luke Rockhold at UFC 267 before Rockhold pulled out of the fight due to a lingering back injury. Strickland opted not to remain on the card and he is still awaiting a booking for his next Octagon appearance.

Sean Strickland gave fans another glimpse into his weird and wonderful world on Saturday by posting a clip of him involved in a road rage dispute.
The UFC middleweight contender has videoed himself in the middle of a heated confrontation with an unknown man and posted the results to social media.
Strickland can be heard trying to decipher if his potential opponent has any guns or knives before agreeing to settle their dispute the old-fashioned way.
The 30-year-old attempted to provide a backstory for the confrontation, writing alongside the video. “He didn’t have a gun but he “got bullets” Guy pulls out in front of me, I honk and says “what up bitch.””
Sean Strickland Has Become Known For His Disturbing Social Media Posts
This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Strickland’s unusual behaviour on social media and in the press.
In August, he spoke with glee about the prospect of killing somebody inside the Octagon.
“If you like to f*cking hurt people, you’re in the right sport,” Strickland said. “I would love nothing more than to kill somebody in the ring. Nothing more. It would make me super happy.
“I would own that sh*t, too. I don’t know if it would make me liable, I might have to say I’m sorry if the cops came, but I would own that sh*t. Own it. Be a psychopath, it’s f*cking fun!”
A couple of months later, Strickland spoke in odd terms about Belal Muhammad who offered to fight him at UFC 268 after Luke Rockhold withdrew from their scheduled bout due to injury.
“I want to make you an offer. You’re going to be in Vegas next week. Me and you, we can meet up in the desert dude and we can just do some weird shit together,” Strickland said in his Instagram stories. “Because it’s like, this is something that I’ve always fantasized about you know?
“And you are like a gazelle that wants to be a lion and you’re accepting what I want to do to you. And like dude, I want to do some weird shit to you man. Like oh man. It’s just so exciting that you’re just so okay with me doing it. Like there’s some things I’ve fantasized about for a long time and I feel like you’re going to let me do it to you.”
Strickland is yet to book a fight against Muhammad, Rockhold, or anyone else for that matter. If his latest social media activity is anything to go off, it appears he is now trying to get some rounds in with civilians.

UFC middleweight Sean Strickland has been known to push the envelope from time to time and has opened up about some controversial childhood memories.
Sean Strickland last competed against Uriah Hall at UFC Vegas 33 in July. After the contest, the decision victory expanded the winning streak of “Tarzan” to five. En route to victory, Strickland pushed a pace Hall struggled to keep up with. Following the triumph on the judge’s scorecards, Strickland looked to be getting his big break when the company was aiming for him to face a former champion.
The rising 185-pound fighter’s eccentric personality has consistently made headlines. Before Luke Rockhold and Strickland were scheduled to appear in the Octagon, they exchanged expletive-filled rants. In addition, the streaking middleweight went so far as to threaten Rockhold’s safety, which has raised eyebrows to a certain extent.
While Strickland was expected to face former UFC champion Luke Rockhold at UFC 268, the American Kickboxing Academy member pulled out of the contest due to a back injury. Now sitting at #7 in the official rankings, Strickland’s menacing teenage years are behind him.
Sean Strickland Opens Up About Troubled Childhood
Speaking on a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, Sean Strickland shed some light on a few of his childhood traumas. The middleweight details growing pains that amounted to being kicked out of school for hate crimes.
“I was really fucking angry,” Strickland said in regard to his abusive childhood. “I was so angry I actually went through this weird neo-Nazi, white supremacist phase when I was younger and I got kicked out of school for hate crimes, like all this crazy shit. I was angry and I had a lot of fucked-up influences in my life that it felt so good to fucking hate something. I would walk down the street with like a knife or a rock hoping to kill somebody. And when I started training I’m like man, you’re just fucking angry.”
The outspoken Strickland admits that he was in a very dark place during his grade school years. While “Tarzan” acknowledges that influences played a role in his behavior, the 24-3 professional finds himself taken aback by his former character.
“My grandfather was like this big piece of shit,” Strickland continued. “When you’re a kid you don’t see that, you hero worship. He kinda just filled your head with crazy shit. You’re in seventh grade spouting off about Nazis, you don’t even know what the fuck that means. But you hear it from someone you look up to and that identity consumed me. Drawing swastikas walking to school, like I didn’t know what the fuck that was. Later my grandfather died and I kinda resented him for it. When you’re racist, you don’t get ahead in life. You’re fucked, man. There’s no privilege from being racist, so I resented him for a majority of my life.”
Growing up in California, in an abusive household, the 185-pound athlete reveals ignorance played a role in his childhood trauma. With a notable impact from his grandfather, the rising UFC star divulged that he harbored resentment toward his deceased family member. Despite being shaped by his grandfather’s Neo-Nazi views at an early age, Strickland is now separated from that dark chapter of his childhood.

Strickland was on Ariel Helwani’s ‘The MMA Hour’ describing things about his past which included him having a white supremacist mindset. The UFC middleweight fighter has been in the MMA news a lot recently through his trash talking on his social media. He was outspoken about his feelings on transgenders in MMA, talking about murdering someone in a fight, and his fascination with going out to the desert with Belal Muhammad.
“I was really fucking angry,” Strickland told Helwani about his youth. “I was so angry I actually went through this weird neo-Nazi, white supremacist phase when I was younger and I got kicked out of school for hate crimes, like all this crazy shit. And when I started training I’m like man, you’re just fucking angry.” (MMAMania)
Strickland’s last fight was against Uriah Hall back in July where he won via unanimous decision. He was booked to fight Luke Rockhold in an upcoming bout, but Rockhold was forced to withdraw from that fight due to an injury. It is great to see Strickland use that anger to fuel his career instead of such a ludicrous mindset that he once had.
“My grandfather was like this big piece of shit. When you’re a kid you don’t see that, you hero worship. He kinda just filled your head with crazy shit. You’re in seventh grade spouting off about Nazis, you don’t even know what the fuck that means. But you hear it from someone you look up to and that identity consumed me. You’re fucked, man. There’s no privilege from being racist, so I resented him for a majority of my life.” Strickland added.
Strickland’s next bout is up in the air since Rockhold was forced to pull out. The UFC is still looking to find him an opponent for a fight in the near future.

Sean Strickland Gives Conor McGregor A Backhanded Compliment
“I just heard you talking about McGregor man. McGregor is the f**king like pinnacle of success, and I’ll tell you why dude. We’re all just f**king dog and someone has our leash. You know, Dana is a dog with somebody, somebody is holding his leash. I’m a dog with Dana and he’s holding my leash. The moment you become McGregor dude, nobody has your f**king leash anymore and that’s like the f**king pinnacle of success and you can do whatever the f**k you want…Yeah but at the end of the day, don’t forget that McGregor is like a white trash f**k who came into money.” (Transcribed by Sportskeeda)
McGregor is the highest-paid athlete in sport according to Forbes. The Irishman apparently banked $180 million between May 1, 2020, and May 1, 2021, with $158 million of that total made outside of the ring.
Despite his vast wealth and growing family, McGregor seems unable to keep himself out of trouble. Earlier this week, the former dual-weight UFC champion was accused of attacking Italian DJ Francesco Facchinetti. A few weeks ago, McGregor tried to attack Machine Gun Kelly on the MTV VMA’s red carpet. The 33-year-old UFC superstar continues to find himself in trouble with the law and at odds with the public, hence Strickland’s assessment of him on the Believe You Me podcast.

Ever since Strickland’s win against Uriah Hall in July, the middleweight contender has quickly garnered a reputation for his outlandish comments and eccentric personality. Initially beginning with his comments in his post-fight interviews following the win. From he’d probably end up “cooking meth in a trailer” if he hadn’t made it to the UFC, to his addiction to adult content. He went on to say in the same interview “I would love nothing more than to kill somebody in the ring. Nothing more. It would make me super happy.”
Strickland also made similar comments on how he regretted not shooting a man in the head via his Instagram.
Strickland was scheduled to face Luke Rockhold at UFC 268 on November 6 but due to herniated discs, Rockhold withdrew from the bout. This lead to him being called out by welterweight Belal Muhammad, stating via Twitter “If they need someone for Strickland I’m down I hate that piece of trash.” Mohammad went on to state “he disrespected Palestine so I wouldn’t mind disrespecting his face”.
This lead to a heated back and forth which including Strickland stating “The next time I see you, I could just fucking backhand you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity you little fucking pussy.” But in Strickland’s most recent message he shared some rather strange thoughts.
“I want to make you an offer. You’re going to be in Vegas next week. Me and you, we can meet up in the desert dude and we can just do some weird shit together,” Strickland said in his Instagram stories. “Because it’s like, this is something that I’ve always fantasized about you know? Like there’s some things I’ve fantasized about for a long time and I feel like you’re going to let me do it to you.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)
Although this back and forth is somewhat entertaining the reality is that the likelihood of this bout coming to fruition is extremely low. Although both are highly ranked (Strickland #7 Muhammad #9) they are in different divisions, Muhammad has never fought at middleweight and it would be on three weeks’ notice.
What do you think? Do you think Sean Strickland’s comments take it too far?
