Another fight night in the books, another night of fights to analyze.

UFC Fight Night: Mexico City featured a slew of lightning-quick first-round knockouts, some questionable decisions, and emerging contenders.

Check out the five biggest takeaways from Saturday night!

5. Jack Hermansson Is Emerging As A Middleweight Contender

Quietly climbing up the middleweight ladder, Jack Hermansson scored his second first-round TKO in a row on Saturday night.

While not the biggest name, the Swede has looked very impressive as of late, finishing both Alex Nicholson and Brad Scott with first-round punches.

Hermansson looked like a potential top ten middleweight on Saturday night and has earned a ranked opponent for his hard work.

A fight with Uriah Hall or Derek Brunson seems to make the most sense.

Last night’s (Sat., August 5, 2017) UFC Fight Night 114 from Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico, featured an all-out plethora of first-round finishes; in fact, the action-packed card was host to a record-tying seven of them.

Perhaps none were more emphatic than Humberto Bandenay’s insane knee KO of the heavily favored Martin Bravo that took only 26 seconds. Bandenay came out looking to prove a point as the biggest underdog on the card, and he did just that, landing a hard body kick early that clearly made Bravo think about defending his midsection.

When he did, however, Bandenay had the wherewithal to move his strike upstairs, nailing Bravo with a vicious knee that stiffened him and legitimately put Bandenay on the short list of potential ‘Knockout of the Year’ contenders. Check out the jaw-dropping finish right here:

Sergio Pettis and Brandon Moreno were on the cusp of flyweight title contention when they met in the main event of last night’s (Sat., August 5, 2017) UFC Fight Night 114 from Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico.

In the end, the No. 6 Pettis kept his momentum alive with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory over the unorthodox Moreno.

It wasn’t without some early adversity, however, as Moreno took Pettis’ back after taking him down off a kick in the first round, dominating the scorecard. But Pettis rallied back in the second round, landing some effective high kicks and finding his range in the boxing department, range he kept throughout the middle rounds where he was able to score with precise shots and hurt Moreno.

Moreno fought back with another takedown in the fifth, but Pettis’ effort throughout the middle of the fight was enough to earn him the victory on the scorecards. Watch the full fight video highlights of Pettis’ pivotal win right here:

The flyweight division has dealt with a lack of contenders in recent years, but two of the division’s most promising prospects are set to face off in the main event of UFC 114 tonight (Aug. 5, 2017) from Mexico City, as No. 6-ranked Sergio Pettis will battle No. 7-ranked Brandon Moreno.

Pettis, the younger brother of former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, has won three straight fights at 125 pounds, and if he can add a win over Moreno to his resume, he’d like a chance to challenge dominant flyweight king Demetrious Johnson:

“I feel like an impressive win would definitely get me into title contention,” Pettis told MMAJunkie. “The division needs a new face, and I feel like I’m going to be the next one to do it. I feel like a lot of these guys played into Demetrious’ game. They’re all elephants. They saw the mouse and got scared. I’m not afraid. I think my timing is what’s going to happen now. I’ve went through what I’ve went through, took my (losses), grown from them, and I think I’ve gotten better as a person, as a martial artist. If that’s what’s next on the route, I believe that’s what I want, and I believe that’s what they’ll give me.”

Moreno, on the other hand, is no slouch, as the 23-year-old has won all three of his Octagon bouts to date, with two of those victories coming by way of submission. He owns UFC victories over Louis Smolka, Ryan Benoit and Dustin Ortiz. If he can secure a win over Pettis, he too will likely land in title contention.

The flyweight title is set to be defended next month, as Johnson will look to defend his strap for a record setting eleventh straight time when he takes on top contender Ray Borg in the main event of UFC 215 from Edmonton, Canada.
