We’re deep into UFC 308 fight week, meaning it was recently time for the fighters set to be in action on October 26 to take to the stage and answer some questions.
Setting the stage for the UFC 308 headliners will be crucial five-round contest at 185 pounds, with former kingpin Robert Whittaker looking to blemish the thus-far perfect professional record of Khamzat Chimaev.
Also on pay-per-view will be top light heavyweight contender Magomed Ankalaev, who will look to finally secure a shot at Alex Pereira by getting the better of Aleksandar Raki?. That’s in addition to rising featherweight Lerone Murphy, who returns following a main event win over Edson Barboza to do battle with Dan Ige.
The UFC 308 main card will open with Shara Magomedov making his third walk to the Octagon in quick succession. “Bullet” will look to continue his winning start to life in the UFC against a fellow kickboxing specialist in Armen Petrosyan.
As is customary during major fight weeks, the athletes took to the stage on Thursday for the pre-fight press conference.
The top stars set to be in action at UFC 308 this weekend took to the stage on Wednesday for the open workouts. Mixed martial arts’ leading promotion is back in Abu Dhabi for the second time this year, returning to the Middle East two months on from the Cory Sandhagen vs. Umar Nurmagomedov-headlined UFC […]
Unlike that card, this occasion sees gold on the line. Championship stakes on Oct. 26 will come at featherweight, with reigning kingpin Ilia Topuria putting his belt on the line for the first time against legendary fan favorite Max Holloway.
Before “El Matador” looks to cement his grip on the 145-pound crown, former middleweight champ Robert Whittaker will look to bring himself back into a title matchup by blemishing the perfect record of Khamzat Chimaev.
Elsewhere on the main card, Magomed Ankalaev and Aleksandar Raki? collide for the likely right to challenge Alex Pereira, Dan Ige becomes the latest looking to take Lerone Murphy’s ‘O’, and Shara Magomedov keeps up his high level of activity inside the Octagon.
The event will be available exclusively on ESPN+ pay-per-view on Saturday, October 26, 2024. The main card begins at 2 PM ET, while the preliminary card kicks off at 10 AM ET.
Ahead of it, a number of UFC 308 fighters appeared for the open workouts at the Yas Mall in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. Check out a highlights package posted by the UFC on X below:

Russia’s Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov has an impressive record of 14 wins and no losses, with a significant portion of his victories coming by knockout. He is known for his unique look and MuayThai kicking game in the UFC. Despite facing challenges, including a serious eye injury that required multiple surgeries, he has continued to excel in his career.
He began boxing at the age of 12 to defend himself against opponents in his home of Dagestan. Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov Next Fight
The 14-0 athlete Shara ‘Bullet’ Magomedov Next Fight will be against Armen Petrosyan, a Muay Thai specialist with a record of 9-3. Petrosyan has had a mixed career in the UFC, with notable wins and losses, including a recent defeat to Rodolfo Vieira.
Shara ‘Bullet’ has been impressive since joining the UFC in October 2023. He has secured victories over notable opponents such as Bruno Silva, Antonio Trócoli, and Micha? Oleksiejczuk.
The main event features a featherweight championship bout between Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. The co-main event will see Robert Whittaker face Khamzat Chimaev in a middleweight clash. Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen isn’t worried about some of the holes in middleweight prospect Shara Magomedov’s game just yet.
Magomedov has enjoyed a strong summer inside the cage, building on his successful UFC debut last October with a further two victories in the Middle East, both of which netted him an additional $50,000.
After stopping replacement opponent Antonio Trócoli in Saudi Arabia this past June, the undefeated “Bullet” returned for a short-notice co-headliner against Micha? Oleksiejczuk at this past weekend’s UFC Fight Night in Abu Dhabi.
The 30-year-old Dagestani’s usual array of striking weapons were on display across three rounds, as he outpointed his Polish opponent on all three scorecards in the event’s Fight of the Night.
Although that might be the case currently, Sonnen isn’t counting out Magomedov when it comes to rounding out his skillset in the coming months and years.
Sonnen: Magomedov Belongs ‘In Big Fights’ & ‘On Posters’
“The American Gangster” had plenty of praise for Magomedov’s aura and watchability but admitted he doesn’t see a prospect with the kind of skillset boasted by some others.
That, however, is something he is confident can be rectified moving forward, pointing to the evolution of previously one-dimensional athletes such as Israel Adesanya as evidence that a well-rounded arsenal could be to come for Magomedov.
“When he comes on TV, there’s something happening. … He captivates me,” Sonnen said. “This guy is already a co-main event. That is an incredible career. He’s amassing a great record — because I’m not seeing all the skills there. In all fairness, I don’t watch him and go, ‘Wow, where has this guy been?’ I think that Bo Nickal would be the counterpart to that, where you watch him and go, ‘Wow, this guy sure looks well rounded. He sure appears to have a little bit of everything for being a new guy on the scene.’ I’m not seeing it with (Magomedov).
“When I look at ‘Bullet,’ he belongs in big fights. There’s something special. He belongs on posters. I’m interested. I want to see this guy, I want to hear from this guy, and I want to learn from this guy,” Sonnen continued. “As far as the skills, I think he’s learning on the job, and he’s not the first guy that’s had to. Israel Adesanya’s about a complete fighter as you’re gonna find; he wasn’t on day one. … So if ‘Bullet’ is open to learning, if he can absorb and if he can take the criticism that we’re giving him right now, he’s gonna have a fun future.”
In addition to some doubting his overall skillset, Magomedov also came under criticism for his post-fight callout in Abu Dhabi this weekend. The undefeated Russian had the name of Nick Diaz on his lips, who hasn’t recorded a win since 2011 and was most recently defeated by Robbie Lawler in 2021.
Regardless, “Bullet” has done what is required of him inside the Octagon to date, and he’ll hope to continue that trend against whomever the promotion places opposite him next time out.

Shara Magomedov revealed he fought out his contract at UFC Abu Dhabi on Saturday.
Magomedov picked up a decision win over Michal Oleksiejczuk to improve to 3-0 in the UFC. Although the Russian is undefeated in the UFC and as a pro, he is now a free agent and he says he is worried about his future after seeing the UFC part ways with undefeated fighter Muhammad Mokaev.
“I’ve just had my last fight under my current contract. Now I am hoping to get a new one. But after the Mokaev case, yes I am kind of nervous,” Shara Magomedov said, via Sportskeeda. “As a matter of fact it is true, my managers, Ali Abdelaziz, and Rizvan Magomedov, they are top-notch managers so I trust them in all respects and I do not worry at all.”
If the UFC opted to not re-sign Magomedov, it would be a bit of a surprise, as he appears to be a fan favorite and has some star potential. But, as Magomedov says, after the Mokaev situation, the UFC has shown they will move on from anyone, despite their record.
Shara Magomedov called out Nick Diaz after win
Following Shara Magomedov’s decision win over Michal Oleksiejczuk at UFC Abu Dhabi, he called out Nick Diaz.
It was a bit of a surprise that Magomedov would call out Diaz but at the post-fight press conference, he opened up on the callout.
“He was supposed to be here, he was supposed to fight in the co-main event,” Magomedov said (via MMAJunkie). “Instead, I substituted him, he wasn’t able to fight. I think it’s not just for nothing, there’s a reason for that. I think I’d be honored to fight someone like him. I want to show that if I beat a big name like that, that’s what I need to fly up, to become super popular. So, that’s the last thing I need is just somebody with a huge name like him. I think it’s going to help me become a huge superstar.”
