The UFC announced this week a light heavyweight showdown between Ultimate Fighter alum Stephan Bonnar and Czech wrestling champion Karlos Vemola at UFC on Versus 5 expected on August 14.

Bonnar, now an established UFC veteran, is coming off of consecutive victories over Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac.

A former heavyweight, Vemola is coming off of a very impressive light heavyweight debut in which he TKOd Seth Petruzelli in the first round and picked up “knockout of the night” honors.

Both durable fighters, Vemola has never been stopped, and Bonnar has only been stopped due to cuts.

Held at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, UFC on Versus 5 will host a number of other notable fighters including Jim Miller, Ben Henderson, Dan Hardy, Chris Lytle, Amir Sadollah and others.

The event will be the UFC’s first in Wisconsin.

Stephan Bonnar seems to be the US Representative of the UFC as he is now set to fight Karlos Vemola, a Czechoslovakian fighter who won a TKO victory over Seth Petruzelli at UFC 122 back in November. This will be Bonnar’s third match-up against a European fighter (fourth if you include the back-to-back Krzysztof Soszynski fights). Bonnar tweeted about the upcoming UFC on Versus 5 tilt from his TrashTalkinKids account today:

“Who is karlos vermola? That’s ez, Bonnar’s next fight! Just released @Jon_anik and @ngaugeinc are the first 2 know. yeah dewd!!!”

We always appreciate Bonnar’s sense of humor and his inference that he doesn’t know who the f*@# Karlos Vemola is either. It’s good to see Bonnar’s have-fun-with-it attitude at this point in his career. I mean, what the hell, right? It’s a fight!

Riding high on a two-fight win streak against Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac, Stephan Bonnar will likely take on yet another dude with a weird European name in his next appearance. Multiple sources reported today that the American Psycho will face aggressive Czech prospect Karlos “The Terminator” Vemola at UFC on Versus 5, August 14th in Milwaukee.

Vemola (8-1, all wins by first-round stoppage) made his name competing in England as a heavyweight, Donkey Kong-ing most of his terrified opponents in under two minutes. He suffered his first defeat in his Octagon debut at UFC 116, getting slept on by Jon Madsen for three rounds. Wisely, the 6-foot fireplug immediately dropped to light-heavyweight, and beat the living crap out of Seth Petruzelli, picking up a Knockout of the Night bonus in the process. Vemola was slated to return against Luis Cane at UFC 128, but had to withdraw due to a mouth infection.

Killer matchup, if you ask me. Battle-tested vet vs. young juggernaut — who ya got?

The UFC on Versus 5 event has not yet been officially announced, but early reports indicate the event will likely take place at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisc.

UFC President Dana White wasn’t satisfied with those decisions, and he’d like to do something about it: Add overtime to UFC fights.

Talking to Stephan Bonnar on The Ultimate Fighter Aftermath, White was asked whether he would favor an overtime round for fights that end in draws, just as the fights on The Ultimate Fighter have. White said he thinks that’s a good idea.

And we are right! XS Nightclub inside Encore will play host to Madison’s UFC Clothing Line Launch Party tonight with several UFC stars in attendance including: Cain Velasquez, Dominic Cruz, Stephan Bonnar, Forrest Griffin, Brittney Palmer, and Kenda Perez.
