Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight title holder Jon Jones made a successful grappling debut against Dan Henderson at Submission Underground 2. “Bones” was able to submit “Hendo” with an arm triangle choke.

After the win, Jones teased a future grappling match with Chael Sonnen. “Bones” was called out by former middleweight king Luke Rockhold and Dillon Danis. While Rockhold’s challenge was blunt, it was Danis’ call out that irked Jones. Danis, who trains with Conor McGregor, told Jones, “beg me” in reference to a grappling match.

Jones told Fight Hub TV (via MMAMania.com) that he has no interest in facing Danis after his comments.

“He’s a lot smaller than me, so already going into that grappling match there is not much to gain. I just beat Henderson and I was a lot bigger than him. I think right now people would like to see me go up against somebody that is bigger than me just to have a different challenge. But him telling me to beg him was just kind of a douchy thing to do. I felt like I was already in a situation where I had not much to gain, not many people know who he is. I just felt he was kind of being a douchebag and I’m not even going to entertain you.”

Right now, Jones is serving a one-year suspension for his drug test fiasco that canceled his title rematch with Daniel Cormier at UFC 200. Jones will be allowed to return to mixed martial arts (MMA) competition in July. Obviously, the suspension does not prevent him from participating in grappling bouts.

Danis will meet AJ Agazarm at Submission Underground 3. The other grappling matches set for the card are Jeff Glover vs. Chad Mendes, Gordan Ryan vs. Joe Baize, Hector Lombard vs. Garry Tonon, and Jeff Monson vs. Ronny Markes.

Jones also called out Chael Sonnen, who promotes Submission Underground, for next month’s Submission Underground 3.

In the time since submitting Henderson, “Bones” has received various grappling challenges, most notably from former UFC champions Luke Rockhold and Frank Mir. This led the former 205-pound titleholder to take to his official Twitter account earlier today to issue a challenge to all black belts, asking ‘who’s tapping next’:

Surprisingly, Jones received an answer from decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Dillon Danis, who also happens to be a notable training partner and cornerman for UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Taking a page out of the “Notorious” one’s book, Danis told Jones to ‘beg’ him:

Would this be a grappling match you’d be interested in seeing?

At the second Submission Underground grappling event hosted by former UFC contender and current Bellator MMA fighter Chael Sonnen, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones got his first taste of competition since defeating Ovince Saint Preux to become the interim UFC 205-pound champion back in April at UFC 197.

Featured above is the complete main event from Submission Underground 2, which saw Jones defeat MMA legend Dan Henderson via arm-triangle choke at the 6:03 mark of the match.

Jones is currently serving a one-year suspension stemming from his controversial positive drug test for his originally scheduled UFC 200 rematch against reigning UFC 205-pound king Daniel Cormier. “Bones” will be cleared to return to MMA competition in July of 2017.

In the aftermath of the contest, Jones called out Chael Sonnen, who promotes Submission Underground, for Submission Underground 3 on Jan. 29, 2016 and “The American Gangster” accepted, although “Bones” may have other options available as well.

Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold took to his official Twitter account to challenge Jones to a grappling match at the upcoming event:

Rockhold hasn’t fought since last June’s UFC 199 where he was shockingly knocked out cold by reigning UFC 185-pound champion Michael Bisping. Rockhold was scheduled to return to action last month in a rematch against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, but he was forced to withdraw after suffering an injury.

Jones, on the other hand, hasn’t competed in the Octagon since last April when he outpointed Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197. He won’t be eligible to fight again until July.

Interim UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones may have been suspended for a full year until next July today, but apparently that isn’t going to stop him from fighting an opponent that he was once scheduled to face before one of the most controversy-laden scenes led to the UFC’s first event cancellation.

Speaking on today’s (Mon., November 7, 2016) edition of The MMA Hour, former UFC title challenger and current Bellator competitor Chael Sonnen revealed that Jones will take on longtime UFC legend Dan Henderson in the main event of his grappling tournament Submission Underground 2 in December.

It’s a way to stay active for ‘Bones,’ who was perceived to be suspended for six months for a tainted supplement like Yoel Romero and Tim Means were, only to be informed he was suspended for a full year dating back to July for a degree a fault that ‘verged on reckless’ according to the arbitrators presiding over the case. He’s only fought once since he defeated Cormier in early 2015, outlasting late replacement Ovince St. Preux in the main event of April’s UFC 197 after Cormier was forced out of their first rematch with a leg injury.

Henderson, meanwhile, was last seen losing a hard-fought decision to current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in the main event of October 4’s UFC 204 from Manchester, England, a fight where he rocked “The Count” on multiple occasions and badly bloodied his British rival before judges gave the outspoken Brit the nod due to his pressure and volume. Hendo has since expressed desire to fight Bisping again, so he’ll now have an opportunity to face an opponent who got away from him – in a sense – after he was injured before his scheduled UFC 151 main event against Jones back in 2012.

The card was canceled when Jones refused to fight Sonnen, of all people, on eight days’ notice, sparking a huge backlash from fans and prompting the UFC to cancel their first card. It has happened twice since, with 2014’s UFC 176 from Los Angeles and October’s UFC Fight Night event from the Philippines.

A competitor for the United States Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling team, Henderson largely went away from his grappling and wrestling towards the end of his MMA career, preferring to let his thunderous right hand do the talking. He’s won two 47 total mixed martial arts by submission, but Jones has won 6 of his 23 fights by submission. He also owns a large size advantage on the 46-year-old Henderson, prompting the early eye test to reveal quite the mismatch at Submission Underground 2.

Either way, it’s a great way for Sonnen’s fledging series to get some notoriety, and it’s obviously the only way we’ll see Jones compete in a similar capacity as his fans endure yet another long wait for his latest ‘comeback.’ Hopefully it actually happens.

Submission Underground debuted this summer in Sonnen’s native Portland, Oregon.
