Buchholz (16-10) was competing at Alaska Fighting Championship 133 as a short-notice replacement against Marques Facine (14-15), which was streamed live on UFC Fight Pass.

Buchholz, 34, capitalized on a slip from Facine and brutalized his ribs with body kicks while Facine was face down. The final of those kicks accidentally hit Facine in the head, causing the referee to stop the fight.

After some confusion, the judges determined that the final kick was accidental and had no bearing on the outcome of the fight (i.e. Facine was done well before the final kick). It did cause an odd scene to ensue, as Facine was injured and had to actually be taken out on a stretcher.

The win was Buchholz’s first since May 2013. Check out the bizarre win for Buchholz via MMA Junkie’s Blue Corner here:

Buchholz’ Team Alpha Male fighter Teruto Ishihara fights this weekend on the Ovince Saint Preux vs. Yushin Okami-headlined UFC event from Japan.

What do you think of the finish?

With two submission losses in his last three UFC bouts, Sage Northcutt has apparently admitted he needs a change in camp.

Heading into his UFC 214 bout with Claudio Puelles on July 29 from Anaheim, California, the 21-year-old social media superstar has apparently relocated to Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male. TAM founder and former UFC title contender Urijah Faber revealed that ‘Super Sage’ was indeed training with his team on today’s (Mon., June 12, 2017) edition of The MMA Hour, revealing they had just finished up a light session:

“He’s out here learning the good stuff. He and I just got done doing a little private (lesson).”

‘The California Kid’ elaborated further on Northcutt’s overall involvement with the team, noting that the prospect was still spending time with a friend of Faber’s in his native Texas after moving his training around both the state and other gyms such as Montreal’s TriStar and Milwaukee’s Roufusport while being managed by his father Mark throughout the early part of his UFC career.

So while he may not officially be a full-time TAM member just yet, Faber believes that’s something Northcutt will work up to on a permanent basis before touting the young athlete’s ability to pick up new strategies:

“Right now, he works out with one of my very good buddies out of Paradigm in Texas, who I actually coached in college at UC Davis. And so, this is a week out (for him) right now. He’s got a full camp, so I’m not sure how much he’s going to be out here for his camp, but it’s probably going to be a more permanent thing for him moving forward. But as of right now, he’s kind of splitting time, and man, what a fast learner and what a positive guy. He’s fun to be around.”

Asked if Northcutt would truly move to Team Alpha Male for good, Faber responded that he thought so, but the final answer would have to come out of ‘Super Sage’s’ mouth:

“I believe so,” Faber said. “You’d have to double check with him, but I think so.”

So nothing is official in terms of Northcutt staying at any one camp – something he’s not known for doing, yet he did recently post a photo of a training session at TAM that included longtime UFC fan favorite Clay Guida and quickly-rising women’s strawweight Cynthia Calvillo, as seen below.

Could this be the end of Northcutt’s roaming ways as he attempts to rebound from a disappointing defeat to fellow prospect Mickey Gall?

UFC women’s strawweight contender Paige VanZant is coming off of a disappointing loss to Michelle Waterson last December and it looks like she has made some changes in her training since then.

Recently speaking on the topic, VanZant revealed that she has moved back to Portland, Oregon and will be training with a ‘new team’ for her next fight:

“It was a really tough loss, it was really hard on me, but, actually, for the most part, I’m getting used to training with a new fight camp,” VanZant told MMA Fighting. “I moved back to Portland, Oregon, to be with family, so I guess I’m taking some time to adjust to a new fight team and a new gym for my upcoming fight.”

“I was just kind of planning it already,” VanZant said. “My whole family is from Portland, I just always had it on my mind that I wanted to be back around family, and it was just a perfect time for me to start over and train with a new camp and be around a huge support and finally have family in my life again.”

The 23-year-old VanZant has been a staple at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento, California for the last few years, but she now appears to be training alongside former UFC title challenger and current Bellator star Chael Sonnen:

“Me and Chael Sonnen have the same management team. I’ve been friends with Chael for a while,” VanZant said. “I knew he was in Portland and he had a really successful fight team out in Portland. I just called him and he really took me under his wing, he set me up with a great MMA gym, which is Gracie Barra with Fabiano, and he also set me up with an amazing conditioning program, Dave. Chael really took me under his wing and set me up with everything I needed.

“I definitely do (feel a better fighter). I can see myself growing. Training with Fabiano, he has some of the best jiu-jitsu I’ve ever had in my life, so I can definitely see the difference in my fight game because of him. I can already tell I’m getting a lot better. It’s really cool to be working with someone so positive and so talented like he is.”

“12 Guage” doesn’t currently have a fight set, but she did say that she would be back in the cage ‘soon’:

“I’ll be in the cage soon,” VanZant said, “I’m talking to the UFC right now about getting me back in the cage. I’m definitely looking at various offers.”

Who would you like to see VanZant take on next?
