Anderson Silva‘s rehab from the devastating injury he suffered at UFC 168 is going incredibly well.
Along with a photo he posted on Twitter, “The Spider” had a message for MMA fans.
“Estou voltando.”
In English, the words simply mean, “I’m coming back.”
Silva famously said “I back” prior to his UFC 168 rematch with Chris Weidman, making it clear that he wasn’t retiring, which he initially led fans to believe following their first meeting at UFC 162.
Weidman controlled the first round of their UFC 168 fight. The contest ended after Silva’s leg snapped when the champ checked a leg kick from the Brazilian. The injury was gruesome and left many people wondering what the future would hold for the former titleholder.
It’s a definite improvement from the video released a week ago, which showed Silva walking down a flight of stairs with a noticeable limp.
Managers Jorge Guimaraes and Ed Soares, along with UFC President Dana White, all believe Silva will compete in the Octagon again as soon as he’s able, according to TMZ, Sherdog and MMA Junkie, respectively. However, per MMA Fighting, Silva seems pretty set on facing idol Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing bout prior to returning to MMA.
Despite the fact that Weidman has two victories over Silva, it wouldn’t be a big stretch to see “The Spider” in the title picture even if Weidman is still champion when the Brazilian returns.
He’ll likely have to take a No. 1 contender fight, but with an anti-climatic finish at UFC 168, there’s still money to be made in a Silva-Weidman III fight.

Ronda Rousey‘s star continues to rise as Warner Bros. has tapped the UFC’s top female athlete for two upcoming motion pictures.
Variety reports that the UFC Women’s bantamweight champion will be one of the female leads in the upcoming Entourage movie, and as the star of The Athena Project:
The story follows a top secret, all-female Delta Force counter-terrorism team code named “The Athena Project” that is sent in to hunt and kill a master terrorist after a bombing in Rome kills 20 Americans. Trouble ensues once the team realizes this is more than a simple bombing.
She will first film the Entourage motion picture as The Athena Project does not yet have a writer attached to the project.
Rousey began her Hollywood career by joining the cast of The Expendables 3, and then followed that up by joining The Fast and Furious 7 cast. Both films were shot in September of 2013.
Her acting chops have cast a shadow over her fighting future.
The MMA bombshell has graced magazine covers, and been a shining star on talk shows. The silver screen was her next natural step.
Rousey responded to her detractors last summer in a explicit tirade after negative reaction to a statement made to MMAJunkie.com. Rousey said that she works in quadrennials and that she thinks she has two years worth of fighting left in her.
If Rousey escapes her next fight without injury, it looks as if she will be ready to defend the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship again after filming Entourage later this year.
The sport’s biggest star continues to explode onto mainstream media. She continues to raise her profile and that should bring even more new eyes to the sport. Rousey’s infectious personality has gained her acclaim in the land of stars and she seems poised to break out even bigger in 2014.
Rousey is slated to defend her championship against Olympic silver medalist Sara McMann on Feb. 22 in Las Vegas at UFC 170.

CM Punk made the Internet explode last week after he left the WWE for undisclosed reasons. If Bellator MMA has its way, it will be the one making rounds on the web before long.
Bellator has already expressed at least preliminary interest in him. He would be free and clear of any WWE contractual obligations in July….
I get the impression a part of him would like to do it the same way Batista did it as a bucket list thing. With Batista, it seemed on the surface to be a real bad risk, but in the end, he did it and wasn’t hurt at all. With Punk, on the surface, it would seem the same thing. A theoretical big risk….
Most MMA fans would scoff at the idea of the former WWE champion fighting in the cage, but Rener Gracie, Punk’s Brazilian jiu-jitsu trainer, told Fox Sports that his student has unlimited potential should he choose to go that route.
But who would Punk’s opponent be if he participated in a pro MMA bout?
Jason David Frank, best known as the Green Ranger from the 1990s hit show Power Rangers, took to Instagram to post a call-out of sorts, saying he would be interested in throwing down with the self-proclaimed “best in the world.”
So now that CM punk is out of his contracts and wants to do MMA. Why not me? He already said he fight me. I got this on video from a fan. Come on CM punk we could make this a awesome fight. Plus his weight is way down. … I’ll make any weight to make this happen!!
The video Frank is referring to was posted on Youtube back in December 2012 (h/t SB Nation). When asked about a potential matchup with the Green Ranger, Punk’s response was: “Sure, why not?”
Frank sports a 1-0 professional record and a 3-0 amateur record in MMA, but he hasn’t fought since 2010, according to Sherdog.
Punk, 35, has trained with the Gracies throughout his career, but he’s also well beyond the age when most fighters start their MMA careers and has over a decade of wear and tear on his body. As any pro wrestler can attest, their profession is very physically taxing despite the fact that its matches are staged.
If Bellator puts this fight together, it would likely be the biggest matchup the promotion could muster outside of a third bout between lightweights Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler. Particularly after Bellator’s first pay-per-view attempt fell apart following an injury to former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, a big-name bout between Punk and Frank would be a smart move to grow its brand.
There’s no doubt Punk would enjoy the crossover appeal that former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE champion Brock Lesnar did, albeit with a smaller fan base. On the other hand, Punk would severely damage his reputation if he were to be defeated, particularly against a former teenage TV star.
The fight probably won’t come together due to contractual issues, commissions and other out-of-the-cage hangups, but Bellator’s interest shows that Punk has the option of joining a number of MMA promotions outside of the UFC.

When UFC president Dana White went on The Arsenio Hall Show and was asked how Floyd Mayweather Jr. would do against top UFC competition, White had a simple response: “He’d get murdered.”
Mayweather holds an undefeated 45-0 professional boxing record and is the unquestioned No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world. White was quick to bring up how different the sports are and that Mayweather fighting in the UFC would be like bringing a knife to a gun fight. He believes comparison scenarios in which a fighter easily crosses over bring both sports disrespect and injustice.

Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone got all kinds of violent at UFC on Fox 10 Saturday, brutalizing Adriano Martins with a vicious head kick to earn a first-round knockout victory.
The official stoppage came at 4:40 of the opening stanza.
Most of the round unfurled with minimal action. Cerrone landed leg kicks more or less at will, and Martins seemed content to simply absorb them. “Cowboy” seemed content to ride that line of offense to an easy win in the round.
But the leg kicks opened up Martins’ defenses at the top. Cerrone went upstairs and the kick was there. He planted his right shin almost perfectly along Martins’ jaw line, and Martins appeared to lose consciousness almost instantly. Martins stiffened as he collapsed to the ground. Cerrone swarmed in but, in a display of good sportsmanship, held off on any academic ground shots on the unconscious Brazilian.
With the win, Cerrone, 30, moves to 22-6-1 as a pro. He has now won two straight. In his last fight, Cerrone defeated Evan Dunham by submission in the second round.
The loss drops the 31-year-old Martins to 25-7. Martins, a talented jiu-jitsu player with heavy hands, is now 1-1 in the UFC octagon. This was his first defeat in his last seven fights.
The win also netted him a $50,000 Knockout of the Night bonus, and that might have been goal No. 1 for “Cowboy” all along. Just last week, Cerrone said in an interview that he was “broke,” and as such hoping to fight six times in 2014. If he can keep winning bonuses like this one, he shouldn’t have to worry much about money for a while. And that is by no means far-fetched. In his win over Dunham, he took home a check for pulling off the Submission of the Night. Saturday’s bonus took Cerrone’s career post-fight bonus total to eight.
