Thiago Santos is the next man up to attempt to dethrone Jon Jones from the top of the 205-pound mountain.

Santos brings some game-changing power to the table, an attribute that Jones seems to be unconcerned with. Speaking to ESPN recently, the Brazilian explained why he believes “Bones” is making a mistake. His stance is simple, everyone loses eventually, and everyone gets knocked out one day (via BJPenn.com):

“I think everybody loses one day,” Santos said. “Everybody gets knocked out one day and July 6 will be his day.”

However, if Santos isn’t able to pull off a huge upset early knockout finish over Jones, he’s more than prepared to go the distance with, arguably, the greatest mixed martial artist of all time:

“Yes, of course, this [is] my style. No problem, no problem. I’m prepared for five rounds no problem. Always, doesn’t matter. But I will try [to knock him out] first or second, third, doesn’t matter [which] round. I will try to do it.”

Santos main events UFC 239 opposite Jones on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 6, 2019.

Jon Jones may very well be undefeated on his official mixed martial arts (MMA) record if UFC President Dana White has anything to say about it.

It was recently announced by White that he’s working with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) in an attempt to overturn his controversial 2009 disqualification defeat. Longtime UFC commentator Joe Rogan took to Twitter to react to the news, approving of White’s efforts:

“I’m in agreement with this 100%. The 12-6 elbow rule is one of the dumbest rules in combat sports. At the very least that fight should be a no contest. He was completely dominant.”

Jones faced off against Matt Hamill at “The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights” finale back in 2009. The fight was stopped after Jones delivered some 12-6 elbows on Hamill, a move that is deemed illegal under the current ruleset. However, many have criticized that making such a move illegal is absolutely foolish, as they do the same amount of damage as elbows thrown from any other angle.

With that being said, Jones was disqualified after Hamill could no longer continue, and Hamill was awarded the victory by default. Over the years many have argued that Jones’ loss should be overturned, and it looks like it could very well happen.

Jon Jones looks to be in phenomenal shape ahead of his UFC 239 title defense against Thiago Santos.

“Bones” and Santos will meet in the main event of the pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 6, also headlining International Fight Week. Jones is putting his 205-pound throne up for grabs against the knockout artist. Ahead of the contest, Jones has shared some photos on Instagram of his preparations for the fight.

The light heavyweight kingpin is looking buff heading into July. Check out the photos here:

“You got 11 days to figure out where you’re watching #UFC239@UFC

Jones has been a busy man these past few days, doing media to promote the upcoming PPV. He has discussed topics ranging from a potential clash with interim middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, to downplaying his rivalry with Daniel Cormier – who he admits is not his toughest opponent.

Now, as fight night closes in, Jones begins to zero in on Santos, and keeping his pretty much unblemished mixed martial arts (MMA) record intact. However, he’ll have no easy task against Santos, who has proven to be a consistent finisher in the division with back-to-back knockout wins since moving up from middleweight.
