Muhammad Mokaev lands third round arm-triangle win over Tim Elliott at UFC 294 Highlights

Remaining undefeated during his Octagon tenure, number eleven ranked flyweight contender, Muhammad Mokaev moves to 5-0 under the banner of the promotion, landing a third round arm-triangle choke submission win over former title challenger, Tim Elliott in the featured preliminary card clash of UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Mokaev, who entered tonight’s clash with Elliott off the back of four prior consecutive victories inside the Octagon, recently landed a third round neck crank submission success against Jafel Fialho back in March in London at UFC 285.

And showing of his stunning wrestling and grappling ability against former one-time title challenger, Elliott in tonight’s clash for a spot within the flyweight top-10 rankings, Mokaev had to fight off two taut submission attempts in the form of a guillotine choke and a triangle choke attempt.

Managing to land an incredible sweep and subsequent takedown in the third round, Mokaev, who now holds an impressive 11-0-0(1) professional record, stopped Elliott with a third round arm-triangle choke submission win.

Flyweight standout Tim Elliott dropped a bombshell on social media, accusing his ex-wife, former UFC bantamweight competitor Gina Mazany, of cheating on him with his friend and teammate Kevin Croom.

Tim Elliott is scheduled to make his return to the Octagon on June 3 for a Fight Night clash with Victor Altamirano. Weeks away from the bout, the No. 11 ranked flyweight took to Twitter, posting a photo from the pair’s wedding. The picture shows Mazany, Elliott’s daughter who is the product of a previous marriage, and the man she has allegedly had a relationship with throughout the marriage, Kevin Croom. Elliott also claimed that Mazany had relations with Croom on their wedding night.

“You want to see something gross? This is my “wife” reading vows to my daughter on our “wedding” night! The guy holding the microphone was my “friend/teammate” my wife cheated on me with this guy the same night! and they have had a relationship our entire “marriage” Gina Mazany.”

Tim Elliott and Gina Mazany were in a relationship for many years before their engagement in July 2020. During their time together, Mazany reportedly developed a deep bond with Elliott’s daughter, making the situation even more gut-wrenching.

Elliott shed some additional light on the situation as he replied to inquiries on Twitter. When one fan asked why he was not with Mazany on their wedding night, Elliott revealed that he had left to take his daughter home to put her to sleep. In another reply asking how he found out, Elliott said, “Texts from her to a friend, later she told me.” He also confirmed that Mazany and Croom are still in an active relationship while he himself has moved on.

Tim Elliott, Mazany, and Croom all previously trained at Glory MMA & Fitness under James Krause. Croom was a member of the UFC roster, competing in the bantamweight division up until his release from the promotion in 2022. Croom initially won his Octagon debut in 2020 against Roosevelt Roberts, but the decision was overturned and dubbed a no contest after Croom tested positive for marijuana. He would drop his next three bouts en route to being cut.

Mazany spent five relatively disappointing years with the UFC, going 2-6 during her tenure before parting ways with the promotion. Mazany was last seen competing against Pearl Gonzalez at Gamebred Boxing 4 last month where she earned a closely contested majority decision in her professional boxing debut.

UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev is not a fan of Tim Elliott’s “dirty” approach to his fight against Tagir Ulanbekov at UFC 272.

Makhachev is arguably the best active Dagestan fighter following the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov. He’s on the verge of a lightweight title shot with a win later this year against potential opponent Beneil Dariush.

Makhachev sat cageside to watch most of the UFC 272 event but also helped corner a few of his teammates. One of them was Ulanbekov, who faced a tough flyweight matchup against the veteran Elliott.

Elliott put on arguably one of the best performances of his career against Ulanbekov, but not without controversy. He appeared to grab Elliott’s glove on multiple occasions during the fight and arguably landed an illegal knee as well on Ulanbekov.

Elliott would win the fight via a unanimous decision.

Makhachev took to Instagram to highlight some of the alleged missed fouls that Elliott committed during the fight against Ulanbekov.

“This fight clear example of so called. “dirty fighter,” Makhachev said. “To make so many intentional fouls in one fight, you don’t see that often.

  1. Clearly intentional eye poke in the clinch. (That affected the whole fight after)
  2. Twice knee to the grounded opponent
  3. Grabbing a glove multiple times during exchanges
  4. Very clearly Grabbing the glove during grappling (you can’t stick your fingers into opponent’s glove, it’s illegal)

But I’m more surprised with the referee that let him do everything he wanted to. Still I’m very proud with my brother Tagir’s performance and he accepted this unfair L.”

Makhachev wasn’t the only one who was upset with how the fight played out. Nurmagomedov was animated and furious while in Ulanbekov’s corner during the controversial moments.

Referee Chris Tognoni did briefly stop the fight to address an eye poke from Elliott but missed the alleged penalties that Makhachev discussed above.

With the win, Tim Elliott moves to 18-12 while Ulanbekov’s record now sits at 14-2.

UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley is searching for a new opponent for the upcoming UFC 264 card after his original opponent Louis Smolka had to pull out due to an injury. After the news broke; flyweight contender Tim Elliott and fellow bantamweight Ricky Simon were among those who threw their names in the hat for a fight with the rising star.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to break the news that Smolka had to pull out of the upcoming July main card fight with O’Malley. Specifics on the injury weren’t revealed, but it was apparently severe enough that Smolka had to withdraw from the fight with just weeks to go from fight night.

UFC flyweight contender Tim Elliott was among the first to express his interest to fight on short notice against O’Malley on social media.

“I’ll take that! My opponent was injured!” Elliott tweeted.

Elliott was originally slated to fight Su Mudaerji at UFC Vegas 30 this past weekend before the fight was called off at the last minute. He is coming off of back-to-back wins over Ryan Benoit and Jordan Espinosa and is back in the thick of things in the flyweight title conversation.

Elliott wasn’t the only one who seemed ecstatic about a potential O’Malley fight, as Simon called for a matchup against his UFC bantamweight colleague.

“Less than 2 weeks? I accept,” Simon posted in a tweet.

Simon has won three straight including his recent featherweight debut win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 258. Before that, he had recorded back-to-back wins over tough bantamweight opponents Ray Borg and Gaetano Pirrello. Other names who called for a fight on social media with O’Malley include Merab Dvalishvili and Cody Stamann.

It’s a bit of a good news/bad news situation when it comes to O’Malley and the upcoming UFC 264 pay-per-view. The bad news is he’s currently without a fight, but the good news is there are a plethora of fighters willing to step in on weeks’ notice and fight one of the rising stars in the UFC.

Who do you think should get the Sean O’Malley fight on short notice?
