UFC welterweight Kevin Holland is known to verbally challenge his opponents during his fights, and Tim Means wasn’t an exception.

Holland earned a second-straight impressive win at welterweight by submitting Means in the UFC Austin co-headliner. He and Means shared a mutual respect for one another during the buildup, but that didn’t stop the two of them from trying to engage in mental warfare during the fight.

During his UFC Austin post-fight press conference, Holland shared what was said between him and Means as they went to battle in the Octagon.

“I hit him with a good shot and I was like, ‘Damn, you’re freakin’ tough.’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, I can do this all night.’ So then I started thinking about the Captain America movie where he was like, ‘I can do this all night!’” Holland revealed.

“So it’s just little things, you know? I went to stomp on the thigh. Usually, I try to hit the knee. And I told him I would avoid the knee, and he said he would do the same. So overall, just good stuff. I got up one time and was like, ‘Pretty good, huh?’ And he was like, ‘Not bad, kid.”

Holland has made the move from middleweight to welterweight with relative ease, as evidenced by recent wins over Means and Alex Oliveira. He made the move to 170lbs after his planned middleweight rematch with Kyle Daukaus was canceled after he suffered an injury.

Holland made a name for himself following five-straight wins in 2020. He would go on to lose back-to-back decisions to Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori in a pair of main events.

Holland has quickly become one of the most entertaining up-and-coming fighters in the UFC and he’ll look to move closer to potential title contention in his next appearance.

Kevin Holland scored an impressive win over Tim Means.

This past Saturday, Holland made his second walk to the cage as a welterweight against Tim Means at UFC Austin. Holland put in an impressive performance to come out on top by finishing Means in the second round via submission (d’arce choke).

‘Trailblazer’ had built a reputation for himself as a trash talker when he competed in the middleweight division. While he toned down the talk in favor of more fighting, there were some interesting words exchanged inside the cage.

Kevin Holland reveals a Captain America reference by Tim Means

During the UFC Post Show for ESPN MMA, Kevin Holland was asked if he was surprised by anything Means did. ‘Trailblazer’ shared that the talking was unexpected and revealed some words he exchanged with his opponent inside the octagon.

“His talking,” Holland said. “Just good, respectful talk back-and-forth. I had threw a sidekick to the leg but I told him I was going to try and keep it off the knee and he said, ‘I agree. Let’s keep ’em off the knee.’

“I hit him with a good shot and I was like, ‘man, you took that well,’ and he was like, ‘all day, baby! All day.’ The only thing I could think of was Captain America when he was getting beat up and he was like, ‘I can do this all night.’

“So, I was like man, Tim is so game this is wonderful. I was just in there having a great time with Tim. OG, veteran, somebody like him, you just can’t put nothing past him. I felt myself getting a little off-balanced a couple of times doing the thing I was supposed to do and I had to remember like, ‘correct yourself because Tim will take you out if you don’t.’”

Following the fight, Holland called out Sean Brady for his next outing. He shared that it was Brady who asked for him and that the matchmakers had informed him of Brady’s callout prior to his co-main event fight.

Streaking striker, Kevin Holland continues his 100 percent finish rate since his welterweight division return, tonight, submitting Tim Means with a slick second round D’Arce choke in the co-main event of UFC Austin at the Moody Center.

Taking co-main event honors on short notice, Holland looked incredibly sharp against veteran Albuquerque native, Means — landing decent strikes in the pocket and fighting long against the New Mexico veteran.

Returning to welterweight back in March at UFC 272, Holland stopped promotional veteran, Alex Oliveira with second round strikes — turning in his second consecutive second round finish tonight against Means.

Locking up a slick D’Arce choke in the early goings of the frame, Holland stung Means with a straight right, before immediately jumping to a submission — quickly forcing a tap.

Setting sights on remaining active, Holland offered to fight promotional perfect grappler, Sean Brady at a UFC event in September in his next Octagon outing.

UFC welterweight Tim Means is expecting fireworks in his upcoming fight with Kevin Holland at UFC Austin on June 18th.

The 38-year-old Means is looking to continue his three-fight winning streak, which has included wins over the likes of Mike Perry and Laureano Staropoli. He most recently defeated Nicolas Dalby last June and will face Holland in a massive fight for the division.

Holland is looking to continue winning since making the move from middleweight last year. Following a no-contest against Kyle Daukaus last October, he defeated Alex Oliveira in his welterweight debut at UFC 272.

During an exclusive interview with MMA News, Means promised a fan-friendly fight against Holland.

“You’re going to get two guys who love to throw punches,” Means said. “Holland has some fans, he likes to talk a whole lot and give the showmanship. I think it has Fight of the Night written all over it.

“This is gonna be a fun fight… fans will get their money’s worth. Bring the popcorn.”

Means has fought some of the top contenders in the welterweight division, including Daniel Rodriguez and Belal Muhammad. He made his UFC debut in Feb. 2012 in a win over Bernardo Magalhaes.

Means and Holland are both looking to move one step closer to a spot in the welterweight rankings with a victory.

UFC Austin will be headlined by a featherweight battle between Calvin Kattar and Josh Emmett.
