Tito Ortiz plans on beating his greatest rival Chuck Liddell in their trilogy this weekend (Nov. 24, 2018) at The Forum in Inglewood, California. Then he plans on building MMA’s future stars.

First thing first, however, for Ortiz, as he is attempting to avenge his two prior losses to Liddell. He fully intends on doing so, then he would like to delve into mixed martial arts promotion, perhaps with Golden Boy MMA.

Earlier this week at the pre-fight press conference both Ortiz and Liddell seemed more than ready for Saturday.

Ortiz believes he can help build future stars like “Conor McGregor.” At the very least, Ortiz knows a thing or two about building a successful fighting career. Watch Tito explain his two-step plan here (courtesy of MMA Fighting):

This weekend (Sat., November 24, 2018) Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell will renew their rivalry for a trilogy bout.

However, this contest won’t be taking place under the UFC’s banner.

Instead, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions will be spearheading this operation. Liddell vs. Ortiz III will go down Saturday from The Forum in Inglewood, California. Ortiz is currently 0-2 in the series against Liddell, and he’s hoping to pick up his first mixed martial arts (MMA) victory of his career over “The Iceman.”

Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, Ortiz made some very interesting comments in the lead-up to his fight with Liddell. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” claims to know what’s going on in the former UFC light heavyweight champion’s fight camp:

“You ain’t coming to my town, living in my town, and don’t think I don’t know everything that’s going on,” Ortiz said. “I know they don’t spar hard in their gym. I know them. I’ve known all them for such a long time.

“I was born and raised in Huntington Beach. Chuck comes and stays in my house and thinks he’s going to play mind games with me? That (expletive) is not going to work.”

Ortiz will certainly have an advantage over Liddell heading into this weekend. Liddell hasn’t fought in nearly a decade, retiring after a vicious first-round knockout loss to Rich Franklin in 2010. He exited the MMA game on a three-fight knockout losing streak. As for Ortiz, he has been much more active in recent years.

Since Liddell’s retirement, Ortiz has fought inside the cage eight times. His most recent, which was believed to be his retirement fight, was a first-round submission victory over Chael Sonnen in January of 2017. It will certainly be interesting to see how Liddell looks inside the cage after so long of a layoff from competition.

Tito Ortiz has high expectations for the PPV buyrate for his trilogy fight against Chuck Liddell this weekend.

It appeared that Ortiz finished up his successful career when submitted Chael Sonnen at Bellator 170 last year. Prior to that, he had won two of his three previous fights. However, his retirement came into question when his fellow former UFC light heavyweight champion posted a picture to Instagram.

The photo was of the two facing off. This led to fans speculating that Liddell might come out of retirement for a third fight with Ortiz. At first, Ortiz shot down the possible fight down. He stated he didn’t need the money but would lend Liddell some if he was in need. However, at the end of the day, the fight got booked.

While doing a recent interview (H/T to MMAMania), Ortiz gave his projections for how many buys this fight will do on PPV.

“To be a real success a low number, 200? I mean, that’s shootin’ super low. If me and Chuck do 200,000 PPV buys, we shouldn’t even be in the business. I think this thing knocks it out of the park.”

Ortiz continued by stating that he thinks they have a home run in the making with all of the fight fans looking forward to the outcome.

“I think we have a home run ahead of us, and I think all the fans at home will be interested in this fight because they want to see how this thing turns out.”

Liddell vs. Ortiz 3 goes down on Saturday, November 24, 2018, inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. The main card will air on PPV (pay-per-view) at 9 p.m. ET with six bouts. The preliminary card will begin at 6 p.m. ET.
