The trash talk is over. All that’s left is for Kevin Lee to step foot inside of the Octagon to take on Tony Ferguson in tonight’s UFC 216 main event in Las Vegas.

There’s been enough verbal sparring between these fighters over recent weeks. Ferguson may have grown tired of the preamble as he decided to forgo the usual staredown at yesterday’s official weigh-in by listening to music with his headphones on.

UFC 216 has been a long time coming for Ferguson, who hasn’t fought since November of last year after another interim title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov fell apart at the last minute earlier this year.

But even though Lee gave fight fans a scare by weighing in at the last possible minute, tipping the scales at 156 pounds before coming back to weigh in at 154.5 pounds, tonight’s main event will go ahead for the UFC lightweight interim title.

With all the hype surrounding tonight’s main event, it’s easy to forget about the other fights on tonight’s main card, including a potential record-breaking performance from flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson in tonight’s co-main event against challenger Ray Borg.

Here’s a quick glance at the complete card heading into tonight with the latest odds from OddsShark:

Main Card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)

  • Tony Ferguson (-200) vs. Kevin Lee (+170)
  • Demetrious Johnson (-1200) vs. Ray Borg (+750)
  • Fabricio Werdum (-250) vs. Derrick Lewis (+210)
  • Kalindra Faria (-185) vs. Mara Romero Borella (+165)
  • Beneil Dariush (-230) vs. Evan Dunham (+190)

Prelims (FXX at 8 p.m. ET)

  • Tom Duquesnoy (-165) vs. Cody Stamann (-145)
  • Will Brooks (-340) vs. Nik Lentz (+280)
  • Lando Vannata (-220) vs. Bobby Green (+185)
  • Poliana Botelho (-130) vs. Pearl Gonzalez (+110)

Prelims (UFC Fight Pass at 6:30 p.m. ET)

  • Walt Harris (-300) vs. Mark Godbeer (+250)
  • Magomed Bibulatov (-550) vs. John Moraga (+425)
  • Brad Tavares (-185) vs. Thales Leites (+165)
  • Matt Schnell (-125) vs. Marco Beltran (+105)

Co-main event: Demetrious Johnson vs. Ray Borg

Demetrious Johnson is on the verge of making history with his 10th title defense at 125 pounds, which could break Anderson Silva‘s record of nine title defenses.

But even though Johnson could enter the “greatest of all-time” conversation with a win tonight, the promotion regarding this fight has been fairly underwhelming. Johnson has never received star billing from the UFC, and it doesn’t look like he will anytime soon unless he moves up to 135 pounds or starts making superfights with Dominick Cruz, T.J. Dillashaw or Cody Garbrandt.

Going up against Borg may not be the sexiest matchup on paper, but tonight should be an exciting fight between two dynamic fighters. Borg will look to take down Johnson and submit him, which is a tall task against a guy who usually dominates the clinch and punishes any fighter who thinks they can handle his jiu-jitsu.

Johnson is arguably the most well-rounded fighter in the UFC. Tony Ferguson is a jack of all trades, but Johnson is a master of multiple disciplines and can win a fight with his striking or his submission game.

Look for Johnson to keep this fight standing, however, to eliminate any shot Borg may have of winning. While Borg is a very talented grappler, he won’t be able to withstand the barrage of punches and elbows from Johnson, who will look to light him up on the feet.

Prediction: Johnson wins via second-round TKO.

Main Event: Ferguson vs. Lee

Call the interim 155-pound belt fake all you want. Tonight’s main event will still be exciting, regardless of its outcome and what it means for the lightweight division.

With Conor McGregor‘s pending return to the Octagon, the UFC needs big fights to keep the Irishman interested. With Nurmagomedov out as he recovers from a brutal weight cut that forced him out of his fight with Ferguson earlier this year, the only bout to make, outside of a superfight with Nate Diaz or Tyron Woodley, would be the winner of Ferguson vs. Lee.

Even when McGregor isn’t fighting, he’s still being talked about.

Ferguson has been waiting for a title shot a long time, and he’s finally getting the opportunity he deserves. One of the most dangerous and versatile fighters in MMA, Ferguson will look to come at Lee with his awkward fighting style and earn the stoppage to make a statement.

While Lee has a very strong grappling game and a legitimate submission arsenal at his disposal, he’s nowhere near the level of Ferguson, who makes a habit of submitting opponents from any position.

Ferguson will look to keep this fight on the feet, however, to test Lee’s cardio after a tough weight cut. While Lee is certainly a gifted fighter looking to improve his boxing skills, he’s going up against one of the most skilled strikers in the division. Ferguson will come at Lee with a barrage of punches and elbows from every angle, throwing off Lee’s timing for a takedown attempt.

An elbow will catch Lee and stun him, allowing Ferguson to take him to the ground and lay down some ground-and-pound before looking for a submission. It’s hard to see this fight going longer than one round as both fighters want to come out with a bang.

Prediction: Ferguson via first-round submission.

UFC 216: Ferguson vs. Lee Fight Card, TV Info, Predictions and More

It was another close call at Friday’s weigh-ins, as Kevin Lee waited until the last minute to weigh in, but Saturday night’s main event at UFC 216 is intact, and Tony Ferguson can finally step inside the Octagon to fight someone.

The interim 155-pound belt is up for grabs as Lee takes on Ferguson in what many regard as a fight of the night contender. Lee has an underrated grappling and jiu-jitsu game, while Ferguson is a jack-of-all-trades who can finish any fighter with a spinning back-fist or a submission with relative ease.

There has been no shortage of trash talk in the lead-up to this title fight, starting off during international fight week when the two men went face-to-face and began jawing at each other. That continued into Friday’s official weigh-in as Lee berated Ferguson with insults to avail as Ferguson had his headphones in listening to music.

That’s one way to get inside of your opponent’s head, I guess.

Lee and Ferguson, with the exception of Khabib Nurmagomedov, have two of the longest winning streaks in the UFC lightweight division. Ferguson hasn’t fought since dominating former champion Rafael dos Anjos in an impressive decision victory last November.

But that’s not Ferguson’s fault, as he’s had bouts with Nurmagomedov cancelled. Tiramisu, anyone?

Lee, on the other hand, has been active, and why not? He’s 24 years old with a lot of charisma. Whether you love or hate Lee, it’s hard to argue that the man puts on a show when he’s inside the Octagon.

And coming off an impressive finish over Michael Chiesa, regardless of whether Chiesa was going to tap or not, Lee put himself in the position to make the UFC decide what to do with them in terms of a title shot or a title eliminator bout.

Both fighters have unique personalities and unique skillsets, and it’s hard to see either fighter wearing out since both Lee and Ferguson are highly regarded as two of the fittest fighters in the division.

The only thing that could affect Lee’s cardio is the pace Ferguson will set. Lee is accustomed to being an aggressor at times, but Ferguson never stops moving forward; even if that means he gets clipped.

El Cucuy is muy loco, and that’s no joke.

Lee hasn’t fought anyone of Ferguson’s caliber since entering the UFC, and Ferguson believes he will finish Lee, which would be Ferguson’s 18th career finish if his prediction comes true.

Speaking of fight predictions, let’s not waste any more time here. Let’s take a quick look at tonight’s fight card.

Main Card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)

  • Tony Ferguson (-200) vs. Kevin Lee (+170)
  • Demetrious Johnson (-1200) vs. Ray Borg (+750)
  • Fabricio Werdum (-250) vs. Derrick Lewis (+210)
  • Kalindra Faria (-185) vs. Mara Romero Borella (+165)
  • Beneil Dariush (-230) vs. Evan Dunham (+190)

Prelims (FXX at 8 p.m. ET)

  • Tom Duquesnoy (-165) vs. Cody Stamann (-145)
  • Will Brooks (-340) vs. Nik Lentz (+280)
  • Lando Vannata (-220) vs. Bobby Green (+185)
  • Poliana Botelho (-130) vs. Pearl Gonzalez (+110)

Odds are courtesy of OddsShark.

Prediction

They call him the boogeyman for a reason.

Ferguson is as dangerous and wild as any fighter in the UFC, regardless of weight class. Not only is he incredibly skilled in the art of striking, but he is also one of the most skilled jiu-jitsu practitioners in MMA, training out of Eddie Bravo’s 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu academy.

Ferguson will come forward immediately against Lee. He’ll be looking to make a statement to the rest of the 155-pound division, including champion Conor McGregor, that he’s looking to become the unified champion and be the champ the division deserves.

Ferguson will back Lee up against the cage and establish the jab. He will work into the clinch where Lee will try to get the under hooks in for a takedown, only to be stuffed by a Ferguson elbow to the jaw.

Dazed, Lee will stumble and look to clinch again, allowing Ferguson to bring Lee to the ground and gain top mount. Some ground-and-pound will do the dirty work that Ferguson needs to force Lee to defend himself, allowing Ferguson to secure the rear-naked choke for the finish.

This won’t be a long fight, nor will it be a back-and-forth exchange. Ferguson has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and Lee won’t be good enough to do anything about it. Ferguson will become the interim 155-pound champion and will await the UFC’s decision to feed him either Nurmagomedov or McGregor.

Either way, Ferguson comes out top with the first-round finish.

No. 2-ranked Tony Ferguson has a very unique fighting style inside the Octagon – a style “El Cucuy” labels as ‘genius.’

Tomorrow night (Sat. October 7, 2017) Ferguson will take on No. 7-ranked Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight championship in the main event of UFC 216 on pay-per-view (PPV). Earlier this week Lee spoke to media to discuss Ferguson’s unique fighting style, to which “The Motown Phenom” tried to downplay and name Ferguson’s mindset as to what has been responsible for all his success (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“With him, it’s not even so much of a technical thing. It’s his mindset that drives him through a lot of these fights,” Lee said. “He’s in the fights, he’s getting hurt, but he comes back and he’s hurting other guys, and he’s able to weather them storms. So I’m going to bring a hurricane to his ass, and I don’t think he’ll be able to weather it. I think the first round is going to go terrible for him, the second round is going to go terrible for him, all the way through the fifth.

“I feel like I’m built for five rounds, I’ve always said it. I think all my fights should be five rounds. So from here on out, they will be, because I’m a smarter fighter. I go back to the corner, I reassess. If I have a tough round, I start the next one and it’s going to be smart, so the more time I get in between the corners, the stronger that I’m going to get, the more I’m able to dissect guys, and you see it in all of my fights.”

Ferguson caught wind of these criticisms and laughed them off, calling his style ‘f*cking genius’ and claiming it’s too far ahead of everyone else for them to understand:

“It’s very intellectual. The reason why you guys say it’s weird is because you don’t understand it,” Ferguson said. “It’s f*cking genius. Let me tell you, it’s so far past your guys’ heads it’s not even funny, because this is the next stage in everybody’s evolution. I’ve been working on this since 2008; actually, before that. I said I had a double doctorate in athletics, I’m working on my triple.”

“El Cucuy” also commented on Lee’s claim that the interim title they’re fighting for is actually the real 155-pound title (which is currently held by Conor McGregor). At the end of the day Ferguson doesn’t even believe Lee has the right to make such claims yet:

“Whatever he’s going to think, if it’s the real lightweight title or whatever it is, this kid hasn’t earned the right to talk,” Ferguson said. “Not one bit.

“You guys deserve a better me, man. I’m primed. I’m the best. But it’s hard when you’ve got a knucklehead like Kevin Lee that wants to just keep pushing that button. So for me, I have to be a captain of the team, and this guy wants my spot on that team. He wants that varsity spot. So I’m going to treat it like it’s a competition, not a fight. I’m going to go in there and give him a T.F. — an old Tony Ferguson technical fall. I’m going to outpoint him then I’m going to pin him.”
