Daniel Cormier thinks Tony Ferguson should go away for a little bit after his recent knockout loss.

Both Cormier and Ferguson have been exchanging words through social media with one another the past few weeks. It all started ahead of UFC 274 when Ferguson mocked Cormier’s “towelgate” weigh-in after Charles Oliveira missed weight.

This sparked a back-and-forth between the pair on Twitter. Ferguson underhandedly accused Cormier of taking drugs, and “DC” responded by taking a slight jab at “El Cucuy’s” fresh second-round knockout loss to Michael Chandler.

Now, speaking on a new episode of “DC & RC,” Cormier has again addressed the situation. Cormier explained a recent incident he had with Ferguson while trying to interview him for his YouTube channel.

Cormier believes the hostility on Ferguson’s end comes due to his friendship with Khabib Nurmagomedov – Ferguson’s longtime rival.

“What he’s talking about is ‘enjoy my retirement with Khabib [Nurmagomedov],’” Cormier said. “That is one of the biggest issues that I have had with Tony Ferguson. Literally my relationship with Khabib.

“I did an interview with him for my YouTube channel the other day and we’re talking off air and it was fine. We spoke about wrestling, our heroes, all these great things. The interview starts and he immediately brings up Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“As we’re going forward in the interview, I ask him a follow-up question on that. I go, ‘Tony, do you think maybe you should live in the now? Not worry about Khabib?

“That’s a confrontation you never got to have.’ He threatened to walk off the interview and now he comes at me. Bro, what’re you worried about me for?”

Cormier: “This Dude Is Trippin’

Cormier then addressed Ferguson’s accusation that “DC” does drugs. More specifically, cocaine. The former heavyweight and light heavyweight champion said he didn’t appreciate those comments, especially being a family man.

He then went on to suggest that Ferguson take some time away after having created riffs between himself and the likes of Joe Rogan, Nurmagomeodv, Cormier, and more.

“It’s like he has these issues with Khabib and because of these issues with Khabib, he continues to come at me which I don’t quite understand,” Cormier said. “When you lose in the way that he did, you gotta go away for a little bit, man.

“Like, take some time, recover, get your mind back in a place where you can compete effectively instead of trying to fight with the guy that commentates the fight. He attacked me, he attacked [Joe] Rogan, he attacked everybody but Jon Anik.

“Which is very weird because one time we got into a fighter meeting and he wouldn’t speak to Jon Anik! So the guy’s just all over the place. It’s kind of crazy, dude needs to take a break and rest and recover.

“Because this dude’s trippin’. When you start to accuse a guy of drug use, now you’re starting to play a different game because obviously we’re family men and I don’t do stuff like that and I’ve never done that.

“So it’s like hard for someone to say something like that to me.”

After his UFC 274 loss to Chandler, Ferguson is now looking for a new gym to call home. It seems safe to say the American Kickboxing Academy is not a strong favorite to land “El Cucuy.”

Fighter turned analyst, Chael Sonnen, feels he knows the best move for Tony Ferguson if he chose to move to welterweight.

Following his devastating loss to Michael Chandler at UFC, Ferguson has seemingly been weighing up his career options and sees a return to 170lbs as a possibility.

The former interim lightweight champion originally entered the UFC as a welterweight, winning The Ultimate Fighter season 13 at 170lbs. Ferguson would immediately drop down to lightweight following TUF, fighting Aaron Riley at 155lb in his first fight as part of the official UFC roster.

Ferguson discussed the potential move in an interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, “I wouldn’t mind going back up to 170”, Ferguson said. “I knocked everybody out up there at 170.

“This cut to 155–it’s not too hard, but I lose a lot of muscle mass, man. I f*cking hate being skinny like that. I look like a little b*tch, I don’t f*cking like that.”

Chael Sonnen Beleives He Knows Who Ferguson Should Face At 170lbs

The former three-time title challenger, Sonnen, believes he knows the right move for Ferguson, saying via his Youtube that he has one fight in mind.

“If Tony was to go to 170 pounds and I have a magic wand,” Sonnen said. “What would I do with him – boom, Nate Diaz. It solves the problem right away.

“That would be a very big fight, that would be an interesting fight, that would be a nostalgic fight, that would serve all of the boxes for what we want to see as fans. We don’t get those very often, we don’t have fun within the sport very often.”

Sonnen isn’t wrong, there aren’t many UFC fans who would miss a fight between Diaz and Ferguson. The fight would be guaranteed entertainment and would undoubtedly garner a nice paycheque for both men.

Is Chael Sonnen right, is that the fight to make?

The long-standing rivalry between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov appears to be far from over.

Between 2015 and 2020, Nurmagomedov and Ferguson were scheduled to square off a total of five times, but they never made it to the Octagon for varying reasons. The two were first set to compete at The Ultimate Fighter season 22 finale. Seven years later, Ferguson and Nurmagomedov are still eager to close the book on one of MMA’s biggest what-ifs.

During an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Ferguson laid down another challenge to ‘The Eagle’, this time as opposing coaches on a season of The Ultimate Fighter.

“I believe that when his dad [Khabib’s] said we were supposed to compete, I believe that. I would love to be able to coach against him in The Ultimate Fighter, how about that? You know, best man wins on the team. I guarantee my coaching is a lot better than yours, Khabib. Not a lot of people understand that.”

After hearing of Ferguson’s comments, Nurmagomedov appeared to accept the challenge and even offered Ferguson the opportunity to step inside the Eagle FC cage.

“Tony I like the idea about TUF, call your bosses and let them make an offer, but if they don’t have ideas, I myself will offer you a deal on the [Eagle FC] platform, we doing some business here you know,” Nurmagomedov tweeted.

Tony Ferguson Snaps Back on Twitter

Shortly after Khabib posted his response to the challenge, Tony Ferguson snapped back at the former lightweight champion and stirred the pot even more.

“We’re Private Contractors Fathead Remember? We Can Smell Ya From All The Way Over Here Lay Of The Sweets Meat Head,” Ferguson replied. “Now You Work For Me, BTW You Still Owe Me 200K & 20 Push-Up For The Homeless Keep Runnin’ It’s Tiramisu Tuesday- Champ -CSO- Merica MF.”

Following the successful defense of his lightweight championship at UFC 254, Nurmagomedov retired from the sport with an undefeated record of 29-0. Since then, ‘The Eagle’ has turned his attention to coaching fighters including lightweight contender Islam Makhachev.

Once considered the two best lightweights in the world, the highly anticipated match between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov never materialized due to injuries, weight cutting issues and COVID. It appears there now may be a way for fans to finally see the two lightweight icons go toe-to-toe.

Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is open to the idea of coaching The Ultimate Fighter against his former rival Tony Ferguson.

Ferguson most recently lost to Michael Chandler on the UFC 274 main card just weeks ago. He suffered a second-round knockout for his fourth-straight defeat in the Octagon.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov had been linked to fight on a series of occasions during their respective careers. Unfortunately, the fight never came to fruition and Nurmagomedov retired following his win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

In the leadup to his fight against Chandler, Ferguson continued to poke the bear and attack Nurmagomedov in various interviews. Despite Nurmagomedov retiring from fighting, Ferguson still wants to compete against him in a different fashion.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Ferguson pitched the idea of coaching against Nurmagomedov on a future season of TUF.

“I built a team for a 12-fight win streak, and I can definitely build a team again.”

“I have nothing personal against him, besides him running away for the pandemic and being a scared dude, but I gotta respect that family [comes] first…

“Jiu-jitsu, soccer, it doesn’t matter what game we play. It would be cool to go out there, shake the dude’s hand, squash some beef, and then move on.” (h/t BJPenn.com)

After hearing Ferguson’s comments, Nurmagomedov responded on Twitter and not only accepted the offer but also offered to sign him to Eagle FC.

“Tony I like the idea about TUF, call your bosses and let them make an offer, but if they don’t have ideas, I myself will offer you a deal on the [Eagle FC] platform, we doing some business here you know,” Nurmagomedov tweeted.

Ferguson then replied on Twitter and appeared to revamp his beef with the former champion Nurmagomedov.

Nurmagomedov has turned his attention to coaching fighters such as lightweight contender Islam Makhachev, while also promoting Eagle FC. He has shut the door on returning to MMA despite a recent offer to fight Georges St-Pierre.

Ferguson and Nurmagomedov were long tabbed as the two best UFC lightweights, but a fight between them never materialized. However, it appears that fans could get the next best thing if both sides follow through on their interest in coaching TUF.

Do you think we’ll see Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson coach against one another on The Ultimate Fighter?

UFC lightweight veteran Tony Ferguson says that his return to action and career timeline will be decided by himself, and not UFC President Dana White.

At UFC 274 earlier this month, Ferguson’s torrid run of form continued. Having entered 2020 riding a 12-fight win streak and with a title shot secured, the fan favorite has since lost four consecutive Octagon outings.

After dropping an interim championship opportunity to Justin Gaethje via TKO, “El Cucuy” fell to defeat on the scorecards against Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush. While he’d hoped to snap that skid on May 7 in Jacksonville, Michael Chandler left him unconscious in the second round courtesy of a truly vicious front kick.

But despite the devastating loss, Ferguson hasn’t appeared at all disheartened or demotivated since, and is already looking ahead to his return. When he does step inside the cage again, he’s insisted that it’ll be on his terms.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Ferguson, who has made his willingness to return to welterweight known, claimed that the UFC president had made him “feel like sh*t” in the past, largely in regards to a weight switch.

Now, Ferguson says he won’t let anyone make him feel like that again, not the commentary team, the fans, or Dana White.

“I have nothing against going up a weight class. For a long time, Dana made me feel like sh*t for going up a weight,” revealed Ferguson. “But he made me feel like sh*t for a long time, and when you have people making you feel like sh*t like that, essentially you start to almost believe it.

“I’m not standing here giving him the finger, but I’m kinda sitting here like, I’m gonna do me for me now, and you’re gonna watch me now. I’m not tryna be unhappy anymore, because I just can’t do that sh*t anymore,” added Ferguson. “I’m not gonna let commentary or people have that fault and throw it in my sh*t. I do that myself, and I do it enough.”

Ferguson: When I Say I’ll Fight, I’ll Fight

With that strong stance in mind, Ferguson gave a stern response to White’s suggestion that he should take a lengthy period away from he cage following his KO loss at UFC 274.

According to the #10-ranked lightweight, he’s calling the shots now, and when he wants to fight and is ready to, he’ll be throwing down inside the Octagon.

“As far as a return, he says I’m gonna take some time off. Man, I call the shots,” asserted Ferguson. “Whenever I say I fight, they always give me a fight, and that’s how it goes… They know already. When I say I’m ready, I’m gonna be ready.”

While some have looked at Ferguson’s four-fight losing skid and the fashion of his latest loss to conclude that his time is nearly up in the sport, Ferguson clearly believes the opposite. He’ll look to prove that he can still compete at the highest level when he next enters the cage, a return he expects to come before the end of 2022.

Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor

Tony Ferguson has responded to Conor McGregor criticizing him for change in management.

Back in 2016, tensions between Tony Ferguson, or any top lightweight for that matter were high with Conor McGregor. ‘The Notorious’ was on his way to achieving unparalleled stardom after becoming the first double champ in the UFC. The two had traded verbal jabs at each other with Ferguson calling out the Irishman in a post-fight octagon interview.

While their rivalry appeared to be related to competition, there may be more to it than meets the eye. Ahead of his fight against Michael Chandler at UFC 274, Tony Ferguson let all hell loose as he went in on the UFC and the president Dana White. McGregor took to Twitter to pin the blame on ‘El Cucuy’ for “burning bridges”.

Tony Ferguson details Paradigm & Conor McGregor

In an interview with Submission Radio following UFC 274, Tony Ferguson hit back at Conor McGregor and expanded on what’s going on between the two behind the scenes.

Ferguson talks about the unethical business practices done by Paradigm, which the Irish superstar is a part-owner. He revealed that UFC president Dana White also believed that he was unfairly treated.

Well, I’m going to be real. There was a lot of underscored things that were going on between the UFC and Paradigm. They obviously had like a lot of insider information that they were sharing between each other. Even Dana said they f**ked me over, and, we’re going to be going through some legal things, which is kind of crazy, and I can’t talk too much about it, but there’s a Miller-Ayala act, which says that an agent, an acting agent is not supposed to compete in the same sport as the person that you’re representing.”

He believes he was lied to and has some legal course of action up his sleeve.

“And I would ask my management all the time if he [Conor McGregor] was an owner of the company, and they kept straight out lying to me every single time. They lied to me a lot. And I’m not trying to do anything else besides tell the truth on my part. But I would ask it, and it would bug the sh*t out of me. Cause I kind of knew that that was just like, what the f**k? Everybody has told me that he [Conor McGregor] is [part owner of Paradigm Sports Management], but he isn’t.”

Ferguson believes McGregor didn’t fight for the belt due to his interests in the management company which would’ve made it illegal for him to do so.

“But there was a reason why he didn’t fight for the belt. Cause one, it would have probably been illegal. I want to be real. Cause one, he probably wasn’t supposed to be in the same sport as me or in the same weight class. So, there’s a lot of things that are going to go on, and there’s going to be some people called into court and just, I’m going to be real, there’s a lot of things going on.

“So when he keeps talking, he keeps doing that… I had management come in to my academy, take pictures of things, or just realize, hey, where did you get this? Where did you get this? And I would see the same equipment over at his spot. And then I remember in one of the camps that hey, one of my neighbors comes up and says ‘hey, did you know Conor McGregor’s on the other side? He’s by you’.”

Ferguson bashed McGregor for being “mentally weak”.

“And I was like what? What the f**k? The dude would come over, like, maybe not even like a couple buildings away, and he had opened up his spot over there. And a lot of things that he does is just to taunt people. And it just has to say something about his character, about like, why?  It’s just mentally weak. Like you wanna, it’s like when you use a game genie in Nintendo and a video game, and you’re able to win fast and be able to do other stuff, you don’t really have fun anymore.”

Closing his statements out with a healthy bit of speculation, Ferguson wondered if ‘Mystic Mac’ was simply imitating him for improvement.

“You kind of try to like figure out and you just try to enjoy everybody else’s stuff. The dude was riding his bike on my running trail. Like, I’m not bullsh***ing. It was the most ridiculous stuff. And he was even kicking the pole and stuff. Maybe he didn’t do it on purpose. Maybe he was just like flattered and he was just like, I’m gonna try this, I’m gonna try this and try this and do this. It worked for him, it’s going to work for me. A lot of people do that.”
