‘The Chosen One’ Woodley was cut from the UFC in 2021 after sustaining four consecutive losses. The US-born athlete is the former welterweight champion who held the throne from 2018 to 2018.

Since leaving the UFC, Woodley has gone 0-2 in professional boxing both bouts being against Jake Paul.

Tyron Woodley looking at a UFC return

The former welterweight king Tyron Woodley sat down in an interview with Just Scrap Radio, the 40-year-old athlete explained:

“I’m a free agent and I’m enjoying my liberation. I’m enjoying doing what I want to do. Fighting when I want to fight and fighting for the amount of money I want. I’m the only guy in this sport that can do that. I know some guys are just recently free agents but with the magnitude of what I’m doing right now, nobody is doing. To be the trailblazer and the one and only and be the first fighter that can go and box, kickbox, muay Thai, I can do Bellator, ONE, PFL, or Glory. I can do my own shit and make top dollar. I’m very thankful, very blessed.”

No matter who comes knocking, Woodley is happy to greet them. He added:

“I have no door closed. I’m a businessman, I can fight in any business I want to. I can fight in any organization I want to. ONE, Bellator, Glory, PFL, UFC. I don’t get my feelings hurt in business. I don’t have to invite you to my daughter’s birthday as long as the check clears.” [Transcript courtesy of BJ Penn]

It looks like former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is aiming to stay in the boxing realm moving forward in his career, despite saying he’d like to compete in kickboxing recently, as he has once again called for a fight opposing YouTube-boxing sensation KSI.

Woodley recently posted the following statement on his Twitter account:

“If KSI would ever be a man and a man of his word. He in his lane. I said my piece and agreed to the terms. What God has for me is for me! He asked me to fight. Not chasing a grown man down. That’s borderline bullying.”

KSI however seems to have little to no interest in the match up, and had also stated prior that he’d like for Woodley to win a fight in the boxing ring prior to booking a fight with him:

Hmmm, should I: A – Fight a tired Tyron Woodley that hasn’t won a single boxing fight and got knocked out by Jake Paul by standing still? (Or) B – Fight a pro boxer with a better boxing record than Tommy Fury?”

Some fans have recently spoke out on the callout:

You’re begging a YouTuber, it’s embarrassing.

This is sad that your legacy has come to begging YouTubers for boxing matches.

Stop embarrassing yourself.

This is sad to see, once on of the best fighters on the planet now begs YouTubers for fights.

You broke again?

You are chasing for a YouTuber to fight. Common T-Wood you are better than this.

Tyron Woodley has only boxed twice, both professional fights with Jake Paul, and he went 0-2 in those fights. Then you look at what he did prior to boxing; he became a top two (at the time) welterweight of all-time, but left on a four-fight skid, making his second defeat to Paul his sixth-straight loss after opening up his combat sports career with a record of 19-3-1.

KSI on the other hand, who’s a decade younger than Woodley mind you, has done very well for himself as of late. Following a short 1-0-1 amateur boxing run, he’s since gone 3-0 as a professional, making him 4-0-1 in his last (only) five fights.

You can see why he wouldn’t want a fight with someone on a losing streak, but Woodley would be the biggest name he’d fought to this point. And, he was just about to fight Dillon Danis last month until Danis pulled out.

Do you think KSI should fight Tyron Woodley next?

Former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, plans on returning to competition this year and wants to start with a new combat sport.

Aged 40, we have not seen Woodley compete since his short-notice rematch with Jake Paul, in which ‘The Chosen One’ was viciously knocked out in the sixth round. You’d have to go back to September of 2018 for Woodley’s last win, but still the former 170lber plans on making a return to combat sports.

Talking to The MMA Hour, Woodley suggested that he would like to test the waters of kickboxing, on account of his kicking power.

“I think I’m gonna fight in a kickboxing fight,” Woodley said. “Every time I kick somebody they hit the ground, why don’t I kick people more? ACLs torn, knocked Jake Shields down a couple of times, I even knocked ‘Wonderboy’ down when I kicked, broke my foot on Fatselum when I kicked him in the Kung Fu Panda belly. I kick hard, so why wouldn’t I think about that? I think that’s gonna gradually build me back up. I wanna wrap up the year with MMA.”

Tyron Woodley’s comeback

While Woodley’s time in high-level competition is undoubtedly over, the American has somewhat interjected himself into influencer boxing  scene, following his two fights with Paul. Woodley had recently been linked with a potential matchup with KSI, a fight which would likely see Woodley receive a sizeable payday.

There is undoubtedly options for Woodley as his name still does hold some weight. This could also mean that Woodley does not have to take potentially dangerous fights, that could have health implications at this stage in his career.
