Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley says he wants Nick or Nate Diaz in a match. The Stockton-born Diaz recently had his final fight in the UFC when he defeated Tony Ferguson in the main event of UFC 279. As Nate has fought out of his UFC contract, he is now a free agent.
‘The Chosen One’ has taken some boxing fights since parting ways with the UFC in 2021. The former UFC titleholder has sustained two consecutive losses to YouTuber and boxer Jake Paul. Now, Woodley says, he wants The Ultimate Fighter season 5 winner Nate Diaz.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Tyron Woodley said:
“Nate Diaz, I would tell him he a boss, he a ‘G. He did what he needed to do. I think the fight against Tony Ferguson was a fight he should have had anyway. Sometimes karma and sometimes things work out the way they supposed to work out.”
Tyron Woodley advises Nick & Nate Diaz as free agents
Nate Diaz has had no official word on what he will be doing next, whether competing in another MMA organization, boxing, or even professional wrestling, but Woodley offered some advice to the new free agent. He explained:
“I would suggest he go and get paid top dollar. I would suggest that he do what makes him feel good, if he still wants to do it, when he wants to do it. That’s what I’d suggest – and I suggest he come over on this side and make some money with me, because I got a good opportunity with me and Nick or Nate, or both of them, (we) can make quite a few millions of dollars fighting each other.” [Transcript courtesy of MMA Junkie]
Nick Diaz is still under contract with the UFC for now. His most recent fight was a loss to former welterweight king Robbie Lawler in 2021. But the other Stockton son is free to take whatever opportunity comes his way. Woodley did not specify whether he was interested in boxing Diaz or meeting them in an MMA cage. But, he said, it’s time for these brothers to start making some money.

Anderson Silva has found the burning desire to compete again after his departure from the UFC, according to Tyron Woodley.
Former UFC middleweight champion Silva is set to clash with YouTube sensation-turned-boxer Jake Paul on Oct. 29 at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona. Silva is widely recognized as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, holding numerous records, including the most number of consecutive wins under the UFC banner.
Following a horrific leg break injury, Silva hit a skid in his career that saw him drop five of his final six outings before leaving MMA to pursue other opportunities.
Anderson Silva found his motivation again after UFC exit, says Tyron Woodley ahead of Jake Paul fight
In an appearance on The Fighter vs. The Writer, former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley gave his take on the upcoming fight between Silva and Paul. He believes leaving the UFC helped Silva find his motivation again.
“Anderson Silva, whatever he’s been doing recently in boxing after leaving the UFC tells you that he’s being recognized,” Woodley said (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “You’re treated well, you feel good, you kind of sometimes fight differently. You see people get in happier situations.
“On the way out [of the UFC], he may have just been going through the motions and this new freedom that he has, which I have as well, it gives him that light to the flame underneath. [Now] you’ve got a motivated Anderson Silva.”
Woodley issued a warning about Paul’s finishing ability
Paul has taken to the boxing ring a total of five times since starting his professional career. Of the four opponents he’s faced, ‘The Problem Child’ managed to knock out every single one of them, including Woodley. ‘The Chosen One’ warned Silva and others of the danger Paul possesses with his KO ability.
“He’s training his ass off,” Woodley said. “He’s got KO power and he’s learned to throw that particular punch that he’s got timing on.”
Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is not convinced of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight GOAT status. Former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is not convinced of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s lightweight GOAT status. In fact, ‘The Chosen One’ wouldn’t even put ‘The Eagle’ in his top-10 of all-time greats.
During an appearance on Jake Pauls’s BS Show, Woodley shared his thoughts on some of the greatest fighters in UFC history. When Nurmagomedov’s name popped up, ‘T-Wood’ quickly dismissed him from the list.
“[Khabib] on my top 10 list? Probably not. I f*ck with Khabib. I like him, I respect him a lot. I think he’s a good fighter,” Woodley said. “I think his type of fight for that weight class (lightweight), nobody could do that besides Sean Sherk back in the day. But, like, he was just really aggressive, but I didn’t see the wrestler with good hands fight him so I couldn’t really jump on that train.”
Following a second-round submission of Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, Khabib Nurmagomedov called it a career after just three defenses of the lightweight championship he won two and a half years prior. Ending his career at 29-0, including 13 straight wins inside the Octagon, many still consider Nurmagomedov one of the greatest to step into the cage. However, there are those that side with Tyron Woodley in his belief that Nurmagomedov’s strength of schedule was lacking true competition outside of his last three fights against Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and the aforementioned Justin Gaethje.
Who Is on Tyron Woodley’s List of the Greatest Fighters?
Tyron Woodley is justifiably unconvinced of Khabib Nurmagomedov‘s status as a GOAT in the sport of MMA. That begs the question, who is on Woodley’s list of the best of the best? Speaking to Paul, ‘The Chosen One’ shared a few names that shouldn’t be too surprising. Former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones was an obvious choice for Woodley, as was Demetrious Johson who just added the ONE lightweight world championship to his resume with a spectacular fourth-round flying knee knockout of Adriano Moraes at ONE on Prime Video in August.
Next up was Georges St-Pierre who reigned over the UFC’s welterweight division at the same time as Woodley’s other namedrop, Anderson Silva. ‘The Spider‘ was nothing short of dominant during his middleweight title reign and still holds a plethora of UFC records in the division, including the most consecutive title defenses, most knockdowns, and most finishes. He also has the longest win streak in UFC history, winning 16 straight while holding the middleweight world title for an incredible 2457 days.
Since stepping away from the Octagon, Anderson Silva has continued to find success inside the squared circle. He successfully defeated boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via split decision and will fight two-time Tyron Woodley opponent Jake Paul on October 29th.
