Former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou has claimed he regrets not throwing leg kicks in the direction of WBC heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury during their boxing match over the course of the weekend – particularly after replay footage showed the boxer landing an illegal elbow striker during the bout.

Ngannou, a former undisputed UFC heavyweight champion, made his return to combat sports over the course of the weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – turning in a masterful performance en route to a close, and highly-contested split decision loss to incumbent and undefeated WBC heavyweight champion, Fury.

Featuring inside the squared circle for the first time in his combat sports career, Ngannou had been sidelined from active competition since unifying the heavyweight titles under the UFC banner back in January of last year in a unanimous decision win over the the then-undefeated, Ciryl Gane

Heralded for his performance against Morecambe native, Fury over the course of 10 rounds – Ngannou sent the boxing and mixed martial arts world alike into shock in the third round, dropping the former with a massive left hook in close, scoring a knockdown and a clear 10-8 round in his favor to boot.

Claiming he believes he won the bout – and furthermore professing that if Fury was honest, he would admit Ngannou won too, the Batié native claims he regrets not throwing at least one leg kick toward the WBC champion, after footage showed the latter landing a stiff, illegal elbow strike across the bridge of the former’s nose.

“He (Conor McGregor) was right, I should have kicked his (Tyson Fury) fk legs, I can’t believe that that (sic) he elbowed me,” Francis Ngannou posted on his official X account.

Off the back of his win over Ngannou, Fury has now officially seen a title unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk – originally pencilled in for December 23. in Saudi Arabia, shelved and scrapped until 2024 by his promoter, Frank Warren.

After a brutal war against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, Tyson Fury plans to get some much-needed recovery time in before he begins to prepare for what he’s calling the: “Fight of the Century”.

Fury edged out a meek split-decision victory over Ngannou last Saturday at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He suffered a considerable amount of damage, including getting dropped in the third round by a clean left hook from Ngannou.

Oleksandr Usyk is chomping at the bit to get in the squared circle with Fury, and it seems as if ‘The Gypsy King’ will be accepting his demand for a fight. The battle between the two has been heavily desired by those in the boxing community, with many believing Usyk has the skills to be the one to end the lengthy undefeated streak of Tyson Fury.

“Get yourself prepared, and we’ll put the biggest fight of our generation on,” Fury responded. “The fight of the century. For the undisputed championships of the world. See you all sometime next year. Have a good Christmas if I don’t see ya, and a happy new year! “

So, with that, it seems as if the future of heavyweight boxing is set in stone. Fury and Usyk will collide in a matchup between the greatest heavyweights boxing has to offer, and in the meantime, it’s been said that Francis Ngannou will now be ranked as a heavyweight boxer.

With so many exciting developments in the heavyweight boxing world, it seems this could truly be the jumpstart that the dying sport needs so desperately. People are outraged about what they view as a bad decision in the Ngannou and Fury fight, but, boxing undoubtedly leaves this weekend with a huge victory and a spark that boxing fans can only hope blossoms into a raging inferno of revitalization.

The one and only Conor McGregor was live in the crowd at the new Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the Tyson Fury vs Francis Ngannou fight. Right before the judges’ scorecards were read, he began recording and showed a glimpse of the crowd’s reaction to the surprising decision.

Online, fans were outraged about the decision. Tyson Fury was awarded the victory via a split decision and the scorecards seemed to leave the majority of people seething. The Fury vs Ngannou fight was extremely competitive, way more so than anybody could have really expected.

Ngannou dropped Fury in the third round with a crisp left hook. Many said he looked like he belonged in there with ‘The Gypsy King’ and a far fetch from the man who was a 14-1 underdog leading into the matchup.

The video begins with McGregor spouting some illegible praise for the fight. Seconds later, you can begin to hear him a lot more clearly. “10 rounds? Why not 12?” Conor McGregor began. “That was a hell of a boxing match. Hats off to Francis Ngannou.”

“Francis Ngannou put on a hell of a performance for us,” McGregor continued. Composed, structural, gets the knockdown.”

As the scorecards begin to get read, McGregor and the crowd seem to start getting uneasy. “Oh my god, where is this going?” He cried as the first scorecard was read. As the other cards were read off, the crowd erupts into what seemed to be a huge combination of cheers and boos.

Conor McGregor and everybody around him ringside seemed very disappointed. On video you can see people shaking their hands, and ‘The Notorious’ doesn’t seem to like the decision very much.

“Wowwww, good ol’ boxing huh? Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know the sus (story). Fair play.” The camera pans around and highlights the disappointment of the crowd. Many seem to have truly thought Ngannou was about to win that fight, although some cheers were definitely audible as the scores were read as well.

Francis Ngannou lands in top 10 WBC rankings amid calls for title fight rematch with Tyson Fury

Amid calls for a championship fight rematch with incumbent heavyweight titleholder, Tyson Fury off the back of his controversial split decision loss in last night’s professional boxing debut, former UFC gold holder, Francis Ngannou will be officially ranked within the WBC top 10 rankings as per Mauricio Sulaiman.

Ngannou, a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the UFC, made his professional boxing debut overnight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – suffering a close, hugely-debated split judging loss to Morecambe native, Fury over the course of 10 rounds.

Heralded for his performance in his first venture inside the squared circle, Ngannou even managed to score a clear 10-8 round in the third frame – shocking the world via a massive left hook knockdown. 

Following the loss, Ngannou shared his thoughts on the judging on show at the event, claiming that if Fury were totally honest, he would admit the former should have won

“If he’s (Tyson Fury) being honest, he would say I won that fight,” Francis Ngannou said. “I won that fight – there’s not a question about it. But, you know – and even before getting here [Saudi Arabia], I knew, I knew like, if this fight goes to decision, I’m not winning. Not because I didn’t do good, because I’m the new guy in the house.” 

“I just come here and I wanna kick into people’s business,” Francis Ngannou explained. “I know, there is a structure of business out there, and you need to do a lot to destroy it, that’s why it would have been an upset for them. But, it is what it is, I do my job. I know that I did everything that I could have done, I did my best. Maybe next time, I should just do better to convince people more.” 

Francis Ngannou set to earn top 10 ranking in next WBC list

With many calling for a rematch between Ngannou and Fury next – potentially even for the WBC heavyweight champion’s undisputed belt, the sanctioning body’s leader, Sulaiman revealed the Cameroonian will be ranked within the top 10 next week.

“Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, said he’s going to rank him (Francis Ngannou) in the top 10 because he’s better than most of the heavyweights in the top 10,” Francis Ngannou’s coach, Dewey Cooper told MMA Junkie following the event. “He said that in the ring.”
