It’s unclear whether, or how many of the attendees had been paid to attend by Saudi Arabia, but it really was the who’s who. Cristiano Ronaldo, Eminem, some former top footballers and just about every notable former boxing and UFC world champions were present.

Then 10 round contest was one of the most surprising boxing matches of recent memory, Ngannou did what just about everyone beside him and his team would do. At 37-years-old, having never had a boxing contest in his life, ‘The Predator’ dropped and won rounds against the reigning WBC champion heavyweight champion.

The MMA community know all too well about how MMA athletes get on when trying their hand at boxing, but what Ngannou did is simply incredible. While the scorecards gave the fight to Fury, many believe that Ngannou should have been announced the winner especially considering the knockdown.

However you may have scored it, Ngannou undoubtedly won the event and his star has never been bigger. Ngannou has also played spoiler to the potential clash between Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The pair were set to clash in December, but it’s unclear what team Fury will do next and now the December date could potentially be too soon.

Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight cancelled for December 23. after tough fight with UFC star Francis Ngannou

Amid speculation regarding his chances of competing in a planned return as soon six weeks time, incumbent WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury will no longer be facing fellow world champion, Oleksandr Usyk on December 23. as planned – according to his promoter, Frank Warren, off the back of his split decision win over UFC alum, Francis Ngannou last night.

Fury, the undisputed WBC heavyweight champion, headlined a professional boxing event overnight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia last night in the Middle East, landing a close, split decision win over former undisputed UFC heavyweight gold holder, Ngannou, in a controversial win.

Struggling with the timing and overall power of the Cameroonian puncher – who was making his professional boxing debut at the event, managed to drop Fury with a thunderous left hook counter in close, sending the Morecambe native to the canvas.

And emerging with a hugely contentious split judging win over the Batié native, Fury was joined in the squared circle by Ukraine favorite and heavyweight champion, Usyk, all while his promoter, Warren remained non-committal if his client would be fighting as previously planned on December 23. next.

Tyson Fury ruled from December 23. fight with Oleksandr Usyk

However, amid uncertainty, Warren has now confirmed that Fury and Usyk will not be fighting on December 23. as previously slated – with a title unification bout now targeted for the opening quarter of next year instead.

“It will go ahead but it will not be on the 23rd.” Frank Warren told Boxing News Online. “It was crazy for some people to suggest that it could still go ahead on the 23rd. … Fury said in the ring he would fight on the 23rd – and he would do it – but he needs protecting from himself and that’s my job.”

“I can’t say Tyson took the fight [with Francis Ngannou] lightly, but it was unfortunate that the news came out that the Usyk fight had been made,” Warren continued. “But we had to do that because once you sign a contract it leaks like a sieve. That wasn’t Tyson Fury in there, it was a bad day at the office. But it was a win, he won the fight through his grit and determination. Ngannou was very dangerous and strong and would give anyone a hard and tough fight.”

Francis Ngannou proved he could hold his own in the world of boxing, but that didn’t stop the former UFC heavyweight champion from busting out an MMA-style strike in the closing moments of his scrap with Tyson Fury on Saturday night.

After nearly two years on the shelf, ‘The Predator’ returned to combat sports, stepping inside the squared circle at Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia for a highly anticipated crossover clash with reigning WBC heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury.

Throughout the 30-minute affair, Francis Ngannou managed to stifle Fury’s offense, drawing blood, and even dropped ‘The Gypsy King’ in round three with a counter left hand that caught his opponent off guard. Despite all of that, Ngannou came up short on the scorecards, suffering a split decision loss in his first foray into the sweet science.

In the final round, Ngannou was listed as the favorite to come out on top via the live odds and appeared to be full of confidence. So much so that he launched a Superman punch with 35 seconds left on the clock.

Nate Diaz was none-too-thrilled with Francis Ngannou’s controversial split decision loss to Tyson Fury on Saturday night.

After months of build-up, the former UFC heavyweight champion made his pro boxing debut in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, squaring off with one of the most celebrated strikers in the sport today, Tyson Fury. ‘The Predator’ stepped into the squared circle as a +750 underdog, but those odds quickly flipped when Ngannou managed to knock Fury to the canvas in the third round with a counter-left.

The tide seemingly turned from that point with Fury struggling to get anything going and looking flat-out exhausted in the later rounds. Despite that, ‘The Gypsy King’ still managed to walk away with his undefeated record intact, besting Francis Ngannou via split decision.

Many within the MMA community were quick to cry foul, including former UFC superstar Nate Diaz who shared his unfiltered thoughts on the somewhat sketchy decision.

“Tyson Fury lost and the boxing commentary biased af dumbasses they need to learn how to box,” Diaz wrote on X.

Fans online were quick to point out that Diaz himself was knocked down and defeated by social media star Jake Paul during their ten-round scrap in August. “You got dropped by a YouTuber, who you telling to go learn how to box,” one user quipped.
