Anderson Silva will face Chael Sonnen in a rematch of their epic UFC 117 middleweight bout this June at UFC 147, set to place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I won’t waste time regurgitating what took place, because just about everyone already knows. The following is a list of 10 reasons why Anderson Silva will beat Chael Sonnen.

Whether Anderson Silva likes it or not, he will face Chael Sonnen once again.
UFC President Dana White announced the bout earlier this week during a guest appearance on The Jim Rome Show earlier this week. Although he remained quiet about the potential bout prior, White said that it’s a fight the fans have demanded for a while.
“It’s a fight that everybody wants to see, people want to see Chael versus Anderson,” White said.
Sonnen has begged and pleaded for a rematch with the UFC middleweight champion since their last encounter at UFC 117.
While the bout has not been officially finalized, Silva has been reluctant to face Sonnen since then, and has done his best to avoid him, but the outspoken Sonnen has continuously harassed the Brazilian. Although Silva has no interest in a rematch with “The American Gangster,” White assured the champion will ultimately proceed with the bout.
“Anderson feels like he’s been put in this position where he feels like this guys has been so disrespectful that he doesn’t want to give him a shot and everything else, but Anderson will end up fighting Chael Sonnen,” he said.
Silva and Sonnen met at UFC 117 that saw the Brazilian dominated for a majority of the bout until he submitted his opponent in the fifth round. “The Spider” has not been cleared to fight as he is currently nursing an injury.
It is expected that Silva and Sonnen will meet in 2012.

Anderson Silva has quietly avoided Chael Sonnen since their last encounter at UFC 117 last year, despite Sonnen’s attempts to force a rematch out of the middleweight champion.
While appearing on a Brazilian talk show, De Frente Com Gabi, Silva finally broke his silence on the outspoken middleweight and said Sonnen’s verbal assault will not reward him a title shot.
“He does not deserve to fight me,” Silva said. “I didn’t get where I am by being arrogant or teasing someone. In this business, there is no room for it.”
Although Sonnen’s actions towards the Brazilian have been quite offensive, and rather personal, he nearly defeated Silva during their title bout and has been the only challenger to come close to posing a legitimate threat to the middleweight champion in a long time.
Silva, who has held onto the middleweight crown for five years, said Sonnen’s antics and approach to promoting a bout are unprofessional and there should be no tolerance for it.
“He just tarnishes the image of the sport with his provocative ways,” he said. “I do not think he should be in this sport because he doesn’t have any emotional control.”
Following his win over Brian Stann at UFC 136, Sonnen earned the opportunity to challenge Silva once again. Only this time, however, he called out the champion and he requested a rematch to be scheduled for Superbowl weekend, traditionally one of the company’s biggest cards.

Despite Chael Sonnen’s best efforts in luring Anderson Silva for a rematch, “The Spider” is not interested.
While the UFC middleweight champion is expected to return next year, he doesn’t intend on standing across the Octagon from Sonnen once again. They fought previously at UFC 117 that saw Silva out-wrestled and dominated for a majority of the bout before securing a submission just moments before the closing bell; it is considered one of the greatest comebacks in UFC history.
However, Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, believes it’s time to seek bigger and better opportunities for the champion.
“Anderson just feels that he doesn’t deserve it yet,” Soares told Sherdog.com, when asked whether Sonnen should get a rematch. “He’s fought him once. He had his opportunity, but hey, if Dana wants to put the fight on again, we’ll cross that bridge when it comes.”
Since his loss to the Brazilian, Sonnen has continued to provoke him and request a rematch, even going as far as calling Silva out following his win over Brian Stann at UFC 136. In the post-fight interview, Sonnen had demanded Silva give him a rematch on Super Bowl weekend in February. He even put his own career on the line, should he lose to the champion once again.
Soares explained that while the rematch might generate a lot of interest from fans, it isn’t necessarily Silva’s main priority.
“Let someone try that hasn’t fought for the belt yet,” he said. “We fought Rich Franklin twice. We’ll probably end up having to fight Chael twice. We’re going to end up fighting probably Dan Henderson twice. It’s just like, it would be nice to see some new faces in there getting a crack at it.”
Whether he likes it or not, there isn’t much competition other than Sonnen right now. Silva isn’t committed to move up to 205 pounds, and shows no intention of facing Georges St-Pierre. Sonnen will remain in the title picture until Silva reluctantly agrees to face him.

Chael Sonnen is at it again.
The outspoken middleweight has put a proverbial target on UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, but this time he took a more personal approach.
While making an appearance on “The MMA Show” with Mauro Ranallo, Sonnen took a jab at Silva’s family, more specifically his wife.
“You tell Anderson Silva that I’m coming over and I’m kicking down his backdoor and patting his little lady on the ass and I’m telling her to make me a steak, medium-rare just how I like it,” Sonnen said.
Sonnen challenged Silva at UFC 117, where he dominated the Brazilian and was nearly victorious before being submitted in the final round.
Since then, he has continuously mocked the middleweight champion, including his training camp, Team Blackhouse, and criticized his performances.
The insult isn’t anything surprising coming from Sonnen’s mouth, but it is ironic.
Recently, he was a lot more respectful towards the Brazilian, even going as far as admitting he was the best pound-for-pound fighter in mixed martial arts.
It is expected that the winner between Chael Sonnen and Brian Stann at UFC 136 will challenge Silva for the middleweight title at some point next year.
LAS VEGAS – Dana White may not like it, and he’s been adamant in his belief Chael Sonnen has been punished enough.
But the UFC boss said Saturday after UFC 130 that as long as the former middleweight title challenger remains under suspension by the California State Athletic Commission, he won’t step foot inside the Octagon.
MMA Fighting asked White following the post-fight press conference if he would allow Sonnen to fight in a state that would grant him a license, despite the CSAC suspension, or overseas, where the UFC does its own self-regulation. And White said that won’t happen, even though he knows there are states that would grant Sonnen a license and allow him to fight.
“We don’t do that,” White said of the possibility. “He’s going to have to pay his dues and straighten his stuff out with (the CSAC), even though I think what’s happened to him is wrong.”
Sonnen’s difficulties started after he dominated middleweight champion Anderson Silva deep into the fight before tapping to an armbar-triangle at UFC 117 in Oakland, Calif., last August. After the fight, he failed his drug test, then ran into further trouble with the CSAC when his testimony was called into question for its accuracy. And further complicating things for Sonnen, he plead guilty to a money laundering charge stemming from a real estate deal.
That all added up to the CSAC extending his suspension from six months to indefinite. He won’t be eligible to apply for a license in California until the end of June. And White thinks the CSAC has given his former top contender a raw deal.
“I think Chael has paid his dues,” White said. “Can you keep a guy from making a living for having a big mouth? He’s a big mouth. He says dumb (crap). He says stuff that doesn’t make sense sometimes. He lives on his own little planet. I can tell you this: You go throughout the history of boxing and look at some of the guys that have been licensed in boxing and what they’ve done.”
White was reminded that Strikeforce heavyweight Josh Barnett doesn’t have a license in California and has long had difficulties in that state following a failed drug test in August 2009. Yet Barnett will fight in Strikeforce’s heavyweight tournament in Texas in less than three weeks, a state that granted him a license despite his current ban in California. And since Zuffa owns Strikeforce now, along with the UFC, couldn’t the same thing, theoretically, be done for Sonnen? Sure, White said. But it won’t happen.
“We will honor it. We won’t let him fight anywhere,” White said. “We’ll honor that suspension until it’s cleared up. (The CSAC would) regulate me – they’re my boss too. You show me a guy who fought the government and won. Show me that guy. I want to meet him. I don’t want to be the guy to try. I do what I’m told.”
