The three experts weigh in on Thiago Alves in his “final” attempt at cutting weight to 170lbs as Dana White gives him one more chance and he takes on John Howard. Alves is considered a -300 favorite against Howard who is at +220, though both are coming off losses. Alves actually holds two recent back to back losses to the top 2 ranked Welterweights in the world, Jon Fitch and Georges St. Pierre. Howard suffered his first loss in the UFC at UFC on Versus 2, when his fight with Jake Ellenberger was stopped in the 3rd round due to TKO (doctor stoppage). Is the money worth laying down on John Howard or Thiago Alves? Damon Martin and Larry Pepe make their determinations in the video below:
Steve Cofield also asks the panel if +300 is worth staking on Josh Koscheck in his Main Event title contendor shot against UFC Welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre, who is about -400 to -500 in online sportsbooks. Check the video below if Kos would be a good bet.

MONTREAL — Georges St. Pierre swears up, down and sideways that Josh Koscheck has the triple curse on him: he’s a wrestler, he talks trash, and he’s a rematch. St. Pierre says he excels at facing anyone who fits into any of the categories; Koscheck fits all three.
For those of you who weren’t surfing the MMA tidal wave until recently, St. Pierre faced Koscheck back in August 2007, winning via unanimous decision. And if you figure that history will repeat and the champion will dismantle the challenger, let it be known that Koscheck is the last man to win a round from St. Pierre, taking the first round in their bout.
Koscheck showed he can hang with St. Pierre, but three years later at UFC 124, can he can go all the way?

File this under: Must be nice. You know that dude Georges St. Pierre? Yeah, the guy so naturally athletically gifted that he’s managed to teach himself to be one of the best wrestlers in MMA, despite having no formal background in it whatsoever? The most dominant welterweight fighter on the planet today? Turns out that guy doesn’t really think that lifting weights and/or doing cardio will help you in a fight.
"I don’t believe in strength and conditioning,” St. Pierre tells stand-up comedian/color commentator/MMA political action director Joe Rogan this week on the UFC’s “Ultimate Insider” show. “I never do strength and conditioning. I do not believe that running on a treadmill or doing I don’t know what … I don’t believe that’s going to help you have better cardio for a fight.”
Huh. We’re going to assume that what St. Pierre means to say is that he prefers sport-specific training like sparring and grappling drills in order to build his MMA skills and endurance. Still, not to over-simplify the message here, but this sounds suspiciously like Georges St. Pierre is saying the way to succeed in MMA is just to be Georges St. Pierre. Also, let us say for the record that lifting weights and doing conventional cardio probably will help you if you are, you know, a normal person. If you’re a mild-mannered French Canadian cyborg whose three great joys in life are kicking ass, finely tailored suits and pool parties, well, maybe the laws of science and nature just don’t apply to you.

With the holiday season coming up, the betting man has a choice to make. Do you play it safe, reasoning that you only have so much money to buy gift cards for extended family members who you never see?
Or do you go big anyway, even if it means that, depending on how the Georges St. Pierre–Josh Koscheck bout turns out, you might be left handing out a bunch of homemade certificates for free back rubs this Christmas?
Your answer to that question probably depends on whether you actually care about your family, and also on whether you have a severe gambling problem, but I digress.
UFC 124 in Montreal offers several tantalizing possibilities for the gentleman (or lady) who loves a good wager. And even if you’re saving your money, there’s no harm in just looking at the betting odds for Saturday night’s event…
