NFL Star Chad Ochocinco Signs Deal with MMA Apparel Company TapouT Pro

Bleacher Report’s Nick Caron:

The NFL lockout has affected players in many different ways, but current Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco made a splash in a positive way by signing a contract with TapouT Mouthguards and TapouT RealG Performance Bands, according to MMAMania.

“Ochocinco is the perfect athlete to represent the TapouT brand and its energy and intensity,” said Chris Circo, CEO of Battle Sports Science.

Battle Sports Science, in partnership with Authentic Brands Group, have come together to develop the TapouT Mouthguard. The product has been tested in safety and performance to compete with custom-molded mouthguards which can cost hundreds of dollars, but the TapouT Mouthguard will be available at a fraction the price.

“Fans absolutely adore Chad’s rule-breaking enthusiasm and passionate devotion to sports. This is evident in the relationship he maintains with his over 2 million Twitter followers.”

UFC 131 Results: Junior Dos Santos Happy with Win over Shane Carwin

Bleacher Report’s Todd Seyler:

Earning the No. 1 contender ranking after a decisive victory over the heavy-handed Shane Carwin at UFC 131 in Vancouver, Canada, Junior “Cigano” dos Santos sat down with Tatame.com to discuss his victory.

With momentum on the Brazilian’s side, dos Santos will capitalize on his one-sided affair against Carwin as he eagerly awaits his future matchup with the current UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.

“He’s a great champion (referring to Cain Velasquez), he earned it, but I’ll be good to fight him. I’m going through a good patch, so I’ll do my best to bring this title to Brazil”, said dos Santos.

Commenting on his fight with Carwin, “Cigano” referenced the fact that he did not earn a knockout victory, in humble dos Santos fashion of course.

“Just didn’t get the knockout that I wanted so badly,” dos Santos said as he laughs. “I’m kidding, it was ok. It was a good fight, another three-round bout experience, which is something good for someone on the line for the title shot.”

VAC Commissioner Explains Judging to Justify Decision Win in Elkins Vs. Omigawa

As reported by SB Nation, Vancouver Athletic Commissioner, Jonathan Tweedale released the following statement in regard to the uproar over the Unanimous Decision win (scores: 29-28, 29-28, 30-27) awarded to Darren Elkins this past Saturday.

As reported by SB Nation, Vancouver Athletic Commissioner, Jonathan Tweedale released the following statement in regard to the uproar over the Unanimous Decision win (scores: 29-28, 29-28, 30-27) awarded to Darren Elkins this past Saturday at UFC 131 over Michihiro Omigawa.

“In the first round, Elkins backed Omigawa up with punches the entire round. He controlled the center of the cage. He was throwing a lot more shots, and landing more — and in combination. If there is any controversy as to the outcome of the fight it must be because of the second round. That was a very challenging round to score. An argument can be made in favour of either fighter. Elkins landed more punches. At one point, when Omigawa came forward, he was stopped dead in his tracks by Elkins’ combination punches, and at another point he was slightly buckled. Due to Omigawa’s unusual stance and balance, it was difficult to tell exactly whether he was rocked by some of these shots. However, you could see Omigawa’s leg bend, and the control shift to Elkins as he landed the combo, stopping Omigawa in his tracks, taking the center of the cage, and going on the attack again. These sequences, as well as the total effective strikes landed, could reasonably warrant awarding the round to Elkins. Elkins didn’t land many more than Omigawa, but he did land more. (The Fightmetric numbers agree.) As to the blood – it represents something, but a cut can be caused by a glancing blow and some fighters just cut more readily than others.

That’s a round about which reasonable people can disagree. Close rounds like Round 2 of Omigawa vs Elkins serve as useful examples for discussion, to assist in refining and evolving the community’s understanding of the scoring criteria, generally. And that is a good thing for the sport.”

Fight Metric has not released an indepth data report for the Elkins vs. Omigawa. UFC did award Omigawa his win bonus.

Betting Lines Show Cain Velasquez a Favorite Over Junior dos Santos

According to Ariel Helwani, early betting lines showed the next Heavyweight title-shot contender, Junior dos Santos to be the favorite going into his (possibly UFC 136) bout against, current champion, Cain Velasquez. But, it looks.

According to Ariel Helwani, early betting lines showed the next Heavyweight title-shot contender, Junior dos Santos to be the favorite going into his (possibly UFC 136) bout against, current champion, Cain Velasquez. But, it looks like the tides changed quickly and Velasquez is now the favorite by as much as (160) with dos Santos the (+130) underdog.

dos Santos had been expected to fight Velasquez for the title months ago, but Velasquez suffered a shoulder injury which sidelined their fight and dos Santos took the TUF 13 coaching stint against Brock Lesnar instead. Having trained for months, expecting to face Lesnar, dos Santos was dealt another surprise when Lesnar suffered a repeat bout with diverticulitis which left Shane Carwin as his replacement at UFC 131. dos Santos gave Carwin a solid beating and will now hopefully take his rightful place at the front of the Heavyweight line to meet Velasquez inside the Octagon. We expect lots of line movement in the next few months leading up to this likely October fight. So if you’d like to take advantage of dos Santos as the dog, head here now.

Executing a flawless game plan, dos Santos utilized his tremendous boxing prowess to keep Carwin off balance and without any viable offensive threat.

“The game plan was to keep striking and fight on a long distance, punching him. I managed to do it, so that was important. I didn’t get the knockout, but I got some pretty efficient shots which leaded (sic) me to the win. I followed the game plan,” dos Santos commented.

In the final round of his three-round affair with Carwin, dos Santos planted the wrestler with two brilliantly executed double-leg take-downs. Unseen in the Octagon thus far, “Cigano” spoke about his wrestling ability.

“Yeah…I like striking, my thing is trading punches, but I train everything. I’m learning a lot of wrestling, that i also like doing, and I also do Jiu-Jitsu…I’m prepared to fight on the floor too.”

Junior dos Santos is scheduled to face Cain Velasquez at a date yet established this year. In the meantime, JDS will ride his momentum back into training camp as he prepares for the champion and the opportunity to bring the title “back to Brazil.”

I welcome your comments.
