Einemo vs. Herman Signed for UFC 131; Matyushenko vs. Gustafsson in the Works for UFC 133

A pair of UFC fight bookings were reported today by MMAJunkie. Heavyweight Octagon newcomers Jon Olaf Einemo and Dave Herman will meet at UFC 131 next month in Vancouver, BC and Vladimir Matyushenko and Alexander Gustafsson will square off at UFC 133 in August in Philidelphia, PA.

Einemo (6-1), who is coming off of a five-year hiatus from MMA, was originally slated to take on Shane Carwin on the june card before “The Engineer” was promoted to a number one contendership bout opposite Junior dos Santos as a result of Brock Lesnar pulling out of the scheduled bout because of a diverticulitis flare-up. His only loss came by decision at the hands of Strikeforce contender Fabricio Werdum at PRIDE 31.

8-2 in his last ten outings including a DQ loss to Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in 2010, Herman (20-2) was supposed to face Joey Beltran on the card before it was reshuffled. A veteran of Bellator, Sengoku, EliteXC, “PeeWee” has stoppages in 19 of his 20 wins.

Matyushenko vs. Gustafsson will see “The Janitor” try to avenge his teammate Jared Hamman’s UFC 105 loss to “The Mauler.” Both fighters will take two-fight win streaks with them into the bout. Matyushenko (26-5) defeated Jason Brilz by devastating KO at UFC 129 last month and Alexandre Ferreira by TKO at UFC 122 in November. Gustafsson (11-1) beat Cyrille Diabate at UFC 120 in October and James Te-Huna at UFC 127 in February. Both wins came by rear naked choke.

Lightweights Mike Brown and Nam Phan have recently been added to UFC 133, according to MMAJunkie.com.

Brown is heading into this bout in a must-win situation, going 2-4 in his last six bouts. Brown last fought at UFC 125 in a bout that saw him on the losing end of a split decision to Diego Nunes. Brown followed that up with another decision loss, this time to Rani Yahya at UFC Fight Night 23.

Phan will be heading into this bout following a controversial split decision loss to Leonard Garcia at The Ultimate Fighter 12 Finale. According to MMAJunkie, Phan was scheduled to rematch Garcia at UFC Fight Night 24, but a foot injury forced him to withdraw.

The loss also puts Phan into a tough position, as he too will be desperately seeking a win after going win-less in three of his last four bouts.

Although the main card looks to be finalized with bouts like Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis and Rich Franklin vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the fight between Brown and Phan will likely been featured on the preliminary card.

UFC 133 will take place on August 6, live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Two years ago, Mike Brown was on the top of the world — an undisputed featherweight champion who could boast that he beat Urijah Faber twice. But after knockout losses to Jose Aldo and Manny Gamburyan, and a heartbreaking stretch earlier this year in which he dropped decisions to Diego Nunes and Rani Yahya in the same month, he’s now just fighting to stay relevant.

The UFC confirmed yesterday that Brown’s next match will be against TUF 12 vet Nam Phan at UFC 133 (August 6th, Philadelphia). Phan is coming off his very controversial split-decision loss to Leonard Garcia in December, after which he coined the phrase “Asian brother can’t get no love.” The body-shot specialist was slated to return to action in a rematch with Garcia at UFC Fight Night 24, but had to withdraw from the bout due to a broken foot; Chan Sung Jung stepped in and took care of business.

Brown has also been recovering from an injury this year; during the Yahya fight, he tore a ligament in his left hand that required surgery. Anyway, it’s an end-of-the-road type fight for Brown, who might be booted from the organization if he loses to a TUF semi-finalist. Meanwhile, Phan has the opportunity to make his name off a former champion — as long as he can keep it out of the judges’ hands.

While Rashad Evans prepares for his bout against Phil Davis, the former UFC light heavyweight champion took time out of his busy schedule to sit down with ESPN.com.

It’s certain to say, he had a lot on his mind.

Evans, who appeared at the UFC Summit in Las Vegas, spoke of his ongoing feud with Jones and it seems as though his animosity has grown towards the 23-year-old in the past few months via Twitter.

“Yeah I was gettin’ into it. I like to talk, and I was gettin’ real excited about it. There were a lot of things that made me mad about the whole situation so…I definitely wanted to address a few things,” Evans said.

The former training partners have suddenly grown apart within the past few months, and their feud escalated further when it was learned that Evans would be facing Jones for the light heavyweight title. It is something Evans has been quite vocal of and as a result, he decided to cut off ties between himself and Greg Jackson’s MMA.

Since departing from his former camp, Evans has traveled elsewhere to train.

“I’ma do a little bit in Florida, I’ma do some in Arizona, and I’ma try to get up to New York City and do some training.”

In the meantime, Evans will have to turn his attention to Phil Davis, who has replaced Jones after a hand injury forced him to withdraw from UFC 133. Evans looked at the contrast between Davis and Jones and said Davis still has some maturing to do as a fighter.

“Jon is more confident. Jon will throw something, and just believe it’s going to hit 100%. Phil is still at the point where he’s unsure,” he said.

UFC 133 is scheduled for August 6 live from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Starting with UFC 133 I will go over the top 10 bouts that will take place in the late summer/early fall period. As with anything that is planned out so many months ahead, things happen and fighters get injured, but the UFC has always been pretty good about finding suitable replacements.

UFC 134 also known as UFC: Rio has a handful of bouts that will get the fans extremely excited and ready for the fall months. So even though it will be time to say goodbye to summer, it will also be time to look forward to even more great fights. I will take a look and see what Strikeforce has planned as well.
