Rashad Evans is back on schedule.

The former UFC light heavyweight champion had the pins removed from his injured hand on Wednesday, and he’ll have to undergo three weeks of physical therapy before he can return to full training.

Glenn Robinson, Evans’ manager, confirmed the news to HeavyMMA.com on Wednesday night.

“Rashad is going to rest up for three weeks, and then he’ll be ready to start his training camp,” said Robinson. “He’s ready to go.”

Evans is expected to challenge former teammate Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title.

There have been rumors swirling around about the possibility of the highly-anticipated bout taking place at UFC 140. Unfortunately, the extra three weeks off will prevent Evans from putting together a proper training camp needed in order to meet the December 10 fight date.

In what will likely be one of the biggest grudge matches of all time, Evans hopes to be fully prepared in his attempt to dethrone Jones.

With treatment set to begin next week, Evans is scheduled to make an appearance at this weekend’s fan Expo in Houston for UFC 136.

Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans at UFC 140? Dana White Says "Not True"

Several media outlets have recently confirmed a light heavyweight showdown between champion Jon Jones against former friend and teammate Rashad Evans.

The bout is said to take place at UFC 140, marking the organization’s return to Toronto on December 10 at the Air Canada Centre.

Both Jones and Evans have a long-standing feud stemming from a perceived lack of respect on “Bones'” part, to which Evans answered by leaving the Greg Jackson team in Albuquerque, N.M. and joining the budding Imperial Athletics camp in Boca Raton, Fla.

Many fans have jumped on the news in excitement, but UFC president Dana White has denied all rumors, while taking shots at Sherdog.com for contributing to the “(expletive)” rumors.

“LMFAO !!!! The day u start believing Sherdog!!! Haven’t people learned that lesson yet!? They are wrong AGAIN! :),” said White via Twitter, responding to a fan who asked about the impending Jones-Evans match taking place come this December.

Jones was last seen in action against former champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135, which took place just a few weekends ago. The 24-year-old titleholder successfully defended his belt by submitting the former PRIDE legend with a rear-naked choke in the fourth round.

Evans, meanwhile, is riding a three-fight win streak, including victories over the likes of Thiago Silva, the aforementioned Jackson and most recently rival Tito Ortiz, whom “Sugar” defeated with second-round strikes this past August.

In his bout with Jackson, Jones appeared to have suffered some injuries to his legs and feet, courtesy of several low kicks landed on the plodding boxer. Accordingly, Jones was suspended for six months, though he can be cleared by a physician earlier if all bodes well.

So despite the many reports circulating the web at this moment, the UFC exec reminds everyone why he’s the man in charge.

“…mine is the only report that matters and the answer is no,” tweeted the head honcho.

[UPDATED] Report: Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans [Not] Possible for UFC 140 Main Event

Update: Dana White has denied this report.

Despite Rashad Evans‘s belief that Jon Jones will fake another injury to duck him, it’s looking like the two best frenemies could settle their grudge by the end of the year. MMAFighting reports that the UFC is in the process of setting up a light-heayweight title match between Jones and Evans at UFC 140 (December 10th, Toronto), and the booking could be made official within the next 24-48 hours.

The health of both men has been in question recently. Evans busted up his hand pretty good in his most recent victory over Tito Ortiz, but he’s expected to receive a doctor’s clearance this week to resume training. As for Jones, he caught a somewhat mysterious six-month medical suspension after last month’s UFC 135 title defense against Rampage Jackson. Dana White later confirmed that Jones was uninjured outside of a sore calf.

Jones has already fought three times this year, and a UFC 140 booking would mean just a two-and-a-half month turnaround; wear-and-tear might be a concern for Bones at this point. Still, the UFC was lacking a marquee fight for their return to Toronto, and this is one that fans have been clamoring for. Here’s what the lineup looks like right now…

MAIN CARD
Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
Antônio Rogério Nogueira vs. Tito Ortiz

HOUSTON — Get ready for the grudge match.

The UFC is targeting December’s UFC 140 for the long-awaited Jon Jones vs. Rashad Evans light-heavyweight title bout, MMA Fighting has learned from sources with knowledge of the situation.

The fight is not yet official, but could be announced within the next 24-48 hours. UFC president Dana White told MMA Fighting that he could not yet announce a UFC 140 main event, but might possibly be able to do so by the end of the day.

Before that can happen, at least one hurdle must be overcome. Evans has to be cleared from a hand injury suffered in his recent UFC 133 win over Tito Ortiz. That injury required pins to be inserted into his right hand, but Evans’ coach Mike Van Arsdale told MMA Fighting that he was scheduled to visit the doctor on Wednesday and expected Evans to be cleared.

Van Arsdale told MMA Fighting he had no knowledge of the rumored December date, but said a clean bill of health would make Evans’ participation in a Dec. 10 fight feasible.

“I think if they give us any date, I can get him ready to beat Jon,” he said. “I’m not overly concerned about Jon like everyone else is. My fighter has the ability, tools and the determination to beat him. As long as he’s healthy, and I have eight or nine weeks with him — and it’s right around that right now, that’s all I need.”

Jones, meanwhile, is coming off his fourth-round submission win over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 135 just two weeks ago. A bout at UFC 140 would mark a quick turnaround for the 24-year-old.

If UFC officials could navigate these issues, Jones and Evans will finally bring their long-held grudge to the octagon. The two were infamously once teammates at the Greg Jackson camp in New Mexico before parting ways earlier in 2011.

UFC 140 will take place in Toronto’s Air Canada Centre. It will be the promotion’s first time back since its massive Rogers Centre spectacle set records by drawing over 55,000 fans and an $11 million gate.

UPDATE:
White strongly denied on Wednesday that Jones vs. Evans would happen at UFC 140, citing Evans’ injury. So at least for the time being, UFC 140 is still without a main event.
