Marloes Coenen believes it could take more than the truth to set Alistair Overeem free.

In an appearance on Just Scrap Radio, the former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion sounded off on her former teammate Overeem, who was recently removed from the UFC 146 main event after failing his pre-fight drug test.

“If you do stuff like that and get caught, just like Alistair now, just suck it up and don’t complain about it. I think the truth will always come out. We know a lot of things about Alistair, a lot of negative things, but we never talked about it and knew that the truth would come out. More dirt will come up.”

Overeem, whose testosterone was more than double the regulatory limit, recently addressed the Nevada State Athletic Commission in a hearing held on Tuesday.

He blamed the positive testing on an anti-inflammatory medication prescribed to him by a doctor. According to Overeem, he aggravated an old rib injury training for his UFC title bout against Junior Dos Santos.

His manager Glenn Robinson revealed that Overeem decided to withdraw from the bout on Friday and “asked for a continuance to hear the case so he can prove he is a clean fighter.”

Coenen, who trained alongside Overeem during her stint at Golden Glory, doesn’t appear convinced by the statement released by the former Strikeforce heavyweight champion.

The most interesting part about Coenen’s interview is the fact that she alluded to more dirt possibly being unveiled in the Overeem investigation.

Could there be more facts surrounding the case that we have yet to be made aware of?

“Alistair will receive his punishment for what he has done, and we don’t have to deliver that to him because karma will come and get him.”

The Weird Public Hearing That Bought UFC Star Alistair Overeem Three Months

There were plenty of strange things going on at Alistair Overeem‘s hearing yesterday before the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC). Overeem was in front of the commission after a surprise drug test at a March 27 press conference showed a testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio of 14:1, more than twice Nevada’s legal limits.

Overeem had some ‘splaining to do, and the media sat rapt at the dog and pony show that unfolded.

We learned some startling things about the former K-1 champion who, eventually, had his application for a fight license denied, forcing the Dutch dynamo to sit out nine months and think about what he’s done.

We learned that Overeem sprinted away from a press conference promoting UFC 146, ostensibly to avoid a surprise drug test, jumping into a car that I can only hope was a Mini Cooper for comedic purposes. He was eventually located and escorted back by UFC officials.

We learned that he allowed a doctor to prescribe him a mystery cocktail of drugs that he injected without question, apparently not concerned at all about what he put into his Ferrari of a body.

We learned that, despite the endless jokes, he’s unafraid to make equine references like “I will get back on the horse” for the public record.

But one thing that many pundits have pointed out as odd, the fact that Overeem’s physician, Dr. Hector Molina, has been sued during the course of pursuing his vocation, is not strange at all. According to the American Medical Association, 61 percent of doctors will be sued before their careers end. Molina, as a surgeon and business owner, falls into a particularly high risk group:

The August report found that 42.2% of physicians were sued, with 22.4% sued twice or more. Rates varied by specialty, but general surgeons and obstetrician-gynecologists were most likely to be sued (69.2%). Family physicians and general internists had similar rates (38.9% and 34%). Pediatricians and psychiatrists were sued the least.

Physicians who had an ownership interest in a practice were at greater risk, with 47.5% reporting being sued, compared with 33.4% for those with no ownership interest.

What’s odd about Molina isn’t that he’s been sued. That’s a part of doing business in the medical world. What’s truly odd is his decision to inject Overeem, who he knew was a professional athlete, with a homebrew drug cocktail he testified was “a combination of Vitamin B-12, Dexamethosone, Toradol and an aqueous form of testosterone.”

When I go to the doctor and require prescription drugs, she writes the prescription, often prints out the instructions for usage, and sends me to a pharmacy to pick them up. She doesn’t whip out an unlabeled vial of her own special mix, inject me on the spot and leave the vial and two needles with me to use “as needed.”

In the end, the “I didn’t know defense” can only take you so far. It’s your responsibility to know. Period. The excuse, however, bought Overeem three months off of the typical punishment of one calendar year.

He will be back, some think conveniently, just in time to potentially headline the UFC’s next late December extravaganza—which just happens to be held in Nevada every year. Well played NSAC, well played.

UFC 146: Breakdown of Every Main Card Heavyweight Fight

UFC 146 is to be held on May 26th featuring a full heavyweight main card which was supposed to be capped off with a fight between Alistair Overeem versus Junior dos Santos. That all changed when Overeem was replaced by UFC management after his testosterone levels came back at a 14:1, opening the door for another heavyweight to take his place.

Since it was announced that Overeem was out of the main event and the card as a whole, the UFC has changed four of the five originally scheduled main-card contests.

With the new shake-up, the UFC is putting on a better card than what was originally scheduled. Let’s take a closer look at the updated UFC 146 main fight card.

UFC 146 has undergone some major changes including one to its big heavyweight title collision between Alistair Overeem and Junior dos Santos. The card is undergoing one more change to the heavyweight battlefield.

Since Overeem’s failed drug test, each heavyweight fight has seemingly undergone some change. This includes newcomer to the UFC, Shane del Rosario who was originally suppose to face Gabriel Gonzaga.

Wrong.

UFC.com noted that with the changes, Gonzaga has moved up to face Roy Nelson and now stepping in to face del Rosario will be Stipe Miocic.

Both fighters are looking to use this fight to propel themselves deeper into the heavyweight pool on a card filled with heavyweights. The card lends a perfect opportunity to set themselves up for a successful future.

Del Rosario is 11-0 heading into this fight with Miocic, and is coming off a first round armbar victory against Lavar Johnson last February. Del Rosario was involved in a car accident last year when he was hit by woman driving drunk.

Del Rosario was set to face Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum, but the accident caused a herniated disk and he had to withdraw from the fight.

For Miocic, he is coming off back-to-back wins in the UFC to improve his record to 8-0. Miocic won a decision over Joey Beltran in his UFC debut last October and then proceeded to knockout Phil De Fries in his last fight in February.

Miocic versus del Rosario will air on the main card and pay-per-view portion of UFC 146, which takes place live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 26th.

Alistair Overeem made his UFC debut by completely dominating Brock Lesnar at UFC 141. It was such a one-sided performance that Lesnar retired from MMA immediately afterwards. With the victory, Overeem was awarded a shot against Junior Dos Santos

The title fight was scheduled to take place at UFC 146 in Las Vegas and would headline a main card comprised entirely of heavyweight fights. The UFC held a press conference in Las Vegas to hype up this mega card in early April with Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, Roy Nelson, and Antonio Silva in attendance.

Following the presser, the Nevada State Athletic Commission randomly tested all six fighters. Of the six tests, only Overeem’s came back positive for elevated levels of testosterone. Unfortunately for Alistair, the random test was part of his agreement he made with the commission when they granted him a temporary license for the Lesnar fight.

Today at 12:00 PM ET/9:00 AM PT, Overeem will meet with NSAC in the hope that he can get a license in the state. If the commission fails to grant him a license, the UFC has gone on record that they would respect the decision and not have Overeem fight elsewhere.

UFC 146 Heavyweight Shuffle, Part 2: Nelson vs. Gonzaga, Del Rosario vs. Miocic Added to Main Card

(I’ve met some ugly chicks on PlentyofFish before, but Angie was a new low for me. And she looked even worse with her clothes off.)

Fun fact: Alistair Overeem’s withdrawal from UFC 146 has now resulted in six fighters on the main card getting their opponents switched a month out from the fight. (Only the Mark Hunt vs. Stefan Struve bout has been completely unaffected.) In the latest edition of “Dos Santos vs. Mir” musical chairs, Roy Nelson gets a new opponent, and an undefeated heavyweight prospect comes in to fill the gap.

— With his original opponent Antonio Silva now facing Cain Velasquez, Roy Nelson’s new dance-partner on May 26th will be Gabriel Gonzaga. “Napao” is coming off his successful UFC return against Edinaldo Oliveira in Rio, and was originally slated to kick off the UFC 146 pay-per-view against 11-0 Strikeforce vet Shane Del Rosario. Now it’ll be Gonzaga vs. Big Country, a battle of BJJ black belts with knockout power. We can dig that.

— Luckily, Del Rosario will still get to make his UFC debut at UFC 146. Dana White also announced that 8-0 knockout artist Stipe Miocic will be coming in as a replacement to face Shane. Miocic has won his first two fights in the Octagon, including a decision win against Joey Beltran, and a Knockout of the Night performance against Philip De Fries in February. Indeed, somebody’s ’0′ will go at UFC 146, though considering Del Rosario has been out of action for over a year due to injuries suffered in a car accident last May, and since he’ll stepping into the Octagon for the first time ever, we’d say that Miocic has the advantage here.
