Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino has long been considered to be one of the best pound-for-pound female fighters in the world, although the UFC, the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion, doesn’t currently own a women’s 145-pound division. The Brazilian slugger has attempted to make the drop down to bantamweight in the past, although she is a massive 145 pounder.

Despite the circumstances, however, “Cyborg” recently made her UFC debut in her home of Brazil at last May’s UFC 198, taking on Leslie Smith in a 140-pound catch weight bout, but even making 140-pounds was a difficult task for Justino. In fact, a documentary following her road to UFC 198 will be debuting in August, and a clip from it was released earlier today (August 10, 2016) – and it’s safe to say that her weight cut is truly alarming.

Check out the footage below courtesy of Time Services that essentially shows “Cyborg” in tears during her brutal cut down to 140-pounds:

Justino ended up demolishing Smith in mere minutes, and she will return to the UFC Octagon, once again at 140-pounds, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 95 on September 24, 2016 against Lina Lansberg. Despite her success inside of the cage, is cutting down passed 145-pounds too much of a risk for the Invicta FC champion?

Cris ‘Cyborg’ Justino will step into the UFC Octagon once again, just four months after defeating Leslie Smith in dominating fashion at UFC 198, but this time she’ll top the bill in her come country of Brazil at UFC Fight Night.

According to FOX Sports, UFC has confirmed the 140-pound catchweight contest between the two women, as UFC newcomer Lina Lansberg will take on ‘Cyborg’ who has not smelled the sour scent of defeat for over a decade.

Justino (16-1-1) is coming off a thunderous statement in her UFC debut in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil, when she made quick work of UFC bantamweight veteran Leslie Smith in the first round of their contest at UFC 198 this past May.

‘Cyborg’ is one of the most feared women in mixed martial arts (MMA) history, as her ridiculous power and Chute Box Academy background has been the downfall of nearly all women she has engaged in combat with.

Lansberg (6-1) will make her UFC debut coming off a six-fight win streak, not having lost since her professional MMA debut in 2012 via third round TKO.

Since then ‘The Elbow Princess’ has been on a tear and looking absolutely flawless, holding four TKO finishes of her own en-route to her heavy duty UFC debut in September.

The 34-year-old Swedish product has quite the order on her hands heading into the big leagues of MMA, as she will take on arguably the most dominant female mixed martial artist of all time.

‘Cyborg’ and Lansberg will throw down in the main event of UFC Fight Night Brazil live on September 24, 2016.

Invicta FC featherweiht champion, former Strikeforce 145-pound queen and recent UFC debutante Cris Cyborg Justino is truly a force to be reckoned with. Her smash-and-grab debut under the UFC banner was a sub-round destruction of Leslie Smith that left fans salivating over the prospect of a Cyborg UFC title run. The time since UFC 198 has involved talk of a very different kind though, mainly focused once again on the issue of weight. She’d battered Smith on May 14 at UFC 198 in a 140-pound catchweight contest, and had a very draining cut to make it that far.

The fact there’s no women’s featherweight division in the UFC has led to a number of intriguing rants by the Brazilian knockout artist lately. Much like the good old days of Ronda Rousey’s title reign, Cris Cyborg has again been firing shots at ‘Rowdy’ over social media. Recently demanding her own division in the UFC, Justino laid down the gauntlet for Rousey to fight her at UFC 205 in New York.

In the absence of any kind of response from the former 135-pound champion, Cris Cyborg has apparently been looking elsewhere. We know she likes to experiment, as was apparent from her three-fight Muay Thai career and Jiu Jitsu competitions circa 2009, but now it looks a though professional boxing is an area of interest for the Invicta champ. As reported by Nettavisen.no, and loosely translated by yours truly and google, Cyborg has been enquiring about a boxing match against 28-0 welterweight champion Cecilia Brækhus:

MMA athlete Cristiane Santos, better known as Cris Cyborg, has contacted Cecilia Brækhus and mooted the idea of a duel between the two in the boxing ring.

“There have been rumors that she would like to go over to boxing for a while, for no one would meet her in the UFC. I also think she is looking to top his career with a big fight that will create tremendous attention throughout the world, a fight between her and me would,”

“It seems that I have a mandatory fight against the winner of (Mikaela) Lauren and (Klara) Svensson, so a fight against Cyborg is the earliest in 2017. But it fit enough good for her, too, because then she can train boxing,”

“It will be gigantic, both in Europe and the United States. Both boxing and MMA audiences will follow.”

So perhaps a trip to professional boxing is on the cards fr Cristiane Justino while the UFC ponders her request fr a 145-pound division. If they drag their feet like they did the whole time trying to sign her to the promotion, Cyborg may well have the time for as many boxing and Invicta title fights as she can stomach.

Cecilia Brækhus is also a former kickboxing world champion and amateur boxing European champion, currently holding the IBO, WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO welterweight championships. She most recently dominated Chris Namus to extend her tally to 28-0 in February.

She’s been calling for a women’s featherweight division in the UFC for a long time, but is yet to get any sort of response. After burying Smith with a first round knockout in her promotional debut, it looks as though now’s as good a time as any to start appealing again. With the women’s bantamweight title changing hands again at UFC 200, Cyborg wants to add yet another interesting twist to women’s MMA in the UFC.

She posted this message to her Facebook page:

Every UFC Banatamweight in the history of the female division has fought at 145lbs. Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, and Amanda Nunes.

None of these girls have ever fought lighter than 135lbs.

Currently there is not 1 girl in the bantamweight division’s top 10 to have fought their entire career at 135 and Half of the girls ranked in the Bantamweight Top 10 are on a losing streak.

I am the only MMA World Champion to have ever successfully went down in weight to compete in a Superfight while still holding the world title.I deserve my own division.

These girls didn’t want to fight me in my weight class and now fans want me to face them for no belt, or risk my health to chase theirs…this is not fair.

I’ve earned the right to fight in my division and women deserve an equal opportunity to compete. #1 P4P female fighter in MMA according to ESPN.

Whatever you do don’t miss my next fight…I am going to show the world why these girls left the division…media guys there is your story for the slow news week.
She certainly makes some very interesting points.

Ronda Rousey monumental loss and the changing of the title since then has left the division more open than it’s ever been. Will any of the women’s bantamweights fancy a jump up in weight at this stage? If any do, there’ll be a hungry Cyborg waiting there for them.

Recent UFC signee and Invicta FC featherweight champion Cristiane Justino landed on the world’s largest mixed martial arts stage with a bang this past May 14. Taking on Leslie Smith in a 140-pound catchweight bout UFC 198, Cybrog dazzled in front of the Brazilian crowd. As expected the former Strikeforce champion did not waste any time in dispatching Smith, who had never been stopped by strikes before that night (one doctor stoppage due to exploded ear), with a brutal flurry of unanswered shots.

With the win came a number of newly opened doors for Justino, who had en rallying for a fight with long time champion Ronda Rousey for years. It just so happened that Cyborg only made it to the UFC once ‘Rowdy’ had been dethroned, read in to that what you will. It wasn’t long after her fight with Smith that Cyborg revealed she’d go back to Invicta in the absence of a UFC featherweight division to compete in, stating the cut down to 140 pounds was simply too gruelling.

With Ronda Rousey absent for the moment, more occupied with surgery and Hollywood movie roles, there was concern that Cyborg could possibly be one-and-done in the UFC. Then came the brewing of a fight with Miesha Tate, the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion who dethroned Rousey-slayer Holly Holm at UFC 195. Justino and ‘Cupcake’ have both expressed interest in squaring off, and this recent interview with Cyborg sheds more light on both potential fight with Rowdy’ and Tate.

Speaking with MMAJunkie Radio, the Brazilian knockout artist Cristiane Justino says both Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate are scalps she plans on claiming this year.

“The first (fight I want) is ‘Cyborg’ and Ronda, and the second one, if Ronda doesn’t come back soon, I can fight Miesha – and it’s ‘Cyborg’ and Miesha. (The) UFC, I know it’s the best event and they want to make the best fights for the fans. Miesha is a two-time world champ, she’s a Strikeforce champ and is now UFC champ. After this fight, if she really wants to challenge herself just ask for me: ‘I want to fight “Cyborg” at 140’ and we can fight for all the fans.”

“I think Ronda, she doesn’t want to fight me, she only want to say that,” Justino said. “If she really want to fight me, of course I would promote this fight. The fight is the one all the fans want to watch. This time was really special to me when I fight in Brazil,” Justino said. “It was a great opportunity for me, I run seven miles every day so I can make 140 and it was special. All my fans know I’m always ready for a big super fight for my fans.”

Watch this space, but if Cyborg is good to her word, we could well see the first women’s superfight in UFC history. Kinda.

Add another name to the rapidly growing list of fighters that want a bout against UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping after he shockingly ripped the belt from Luke Rockhold’s hands at UFC 199 on June 4.

That man is former UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva, and he has a legitimate beef with “The Count” from their controversial main event at UFC Fight Night 84 from London.

Silva famously bloodied and battered Bisping when he mistakenly pointed at his mouthpiece towards the end of the second round, but “The Spider” also went through long bouts of inactivity as Bisping pushed the pace with his boxing, actually dropping the formerly iron-chinned Silva. Silva thought he finished Bisping with a flying knee, but he jumped onto the cage wall to celebrate rather than actually finishing the hometown favorite as the time ticked down on the round.

USATSI_9143592_168380322_lowres

Bisping recovered and took home a unanimous decision, which became his biggest win at the time as it propelled him to his now-infamous title fight against Rockhold. Now that Bisping has the belt, Silva took to Instagram to call out the champ, stating that he has never asked the UFC for a rematch before. “The Spider” also cited Bisping’s refusal of a rematch at UFC 198 from Brazil and would even fight him in Manchester:

“Well, I could give you million reasons to make the fight against Bisping happen, but the truth is that he is afraid. I’m not going to compare myself to others even mention someone else, but in my perspective I believe I have the right to a fight with him once again, because I have won London’s fight and a rematch was promised. However, as he was injured by me during the fight, he wouldn’t be prepared to fight too soon, then he was ready to replace someone, but not to face me in Brazil, right?

“You know I lived an unexpected situation having a surgery, but if it wasn’t happened I could fight in Brazil. So, I think it’s time to show that I’m serious, I’ve never asked for a rematch with no adversary, but I do want to have an opportunity of a fight with Bisping, I deserve that for everything I have achieve into the organization saving last time fights’ events even in upper categories, fighting injured , broke a leg. I have proved why I am the best in world in this sport and I humbly say that none of my adversaries who supposedly defeated me have achieved or will my actions into the organization. Undoubtedly, I believe this rematch will be the best step for UFC and Dana is aware of it, because numbers does tell and as we always have to stand by the group let it be from both sides. If I could help him to feel more confident and less afraid I would agree to fight him in his hometown, Manchester.”

USATSI_9143615_168380322_lowres

He may be losing a step, but the always-entertaining Silva brings headlines wherever he goes. But he’s got one of the fullest slate of vocal title challengers a UFC champion has ever had to answer to, with Georges St. Pierre, Dan Henderson, Rockhold, Chris Weidman, Jacare Souza, and now Silva wanting the next crack at the brash Brit.

Based on the shape Bisping left the last fight, he might not want to take on the still-dangerous Muay Thai of “The Spider.”

Well, I could give you million reasons to make the fight against Bisping happen, but the truth is that he is afraid.
