UFC welterweight veteran Matt Brown has been no stranger to headlines this week, as The Ultimate Fighter 7 (TUF 7) alumni has signed a new eight fight contract with the promotion, as well as being booked to a bout against Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 in Atlanta.

The main event of UFC 201 is a welterweight title bout between reigning champion Robbie Lawler and No. 3-ranked Tyron Woodley.

matt brown assault tarec saffiedineBrown, who is currently the No. 8-ranked welterweight in the world, recently dished on the upcoming 170-pound title bout and more on his Great Debate MMA podcast this week.

The first topic of discussion was Brown’s new eight fight deal, and the resulting upset amongst fans:

“I got what I wanted really, to be honest,” Brown said. “A lot of people seem to not like that I signed an eight fight deal.

If you go on the forums and stuff a lot of people are like, ‘Why do these fighters do this?’ But I’ve been in the UFC a long time —- there’s nowhere else I’d want to be.

As long as I’m fighting and I’m making money fighting, I’m living my (expletive) dream. I’m happy as (expletive).”

‘The Immortal’ then discussed his upcoming bout against Ellenberger, following his loss to the surging No. 4-ranked jiu-jitsu wiz Demian Maia:

“Jake is a great fighter. Even though he’s lost a few fights lately, we know how dangerous he is,” Brown said. “That makes it more dangerous for me, right?

I’ve got a guy we all know he’s dangerous. He’s hurt some guys bad, he’s knocked some guys out. He’s explosive. He’s an athlete.

… Now he’s on the cutting block probably, and he’s probably got his back up to the wall. He’s being cornered here. That’s a dangerous spot for me to put him in.”

Robbie Lawler 1Brown then predicted that the upcoming title bout between Lawler and Woodley should be a ‘gimme fight’ for ‘Ruthless’:

“I think it’s an easy fight for Lawler,” Brown said. “I think it’s sort of, I don’t know if I’d say gimme fight, but I mean it’s definitely, this is the type of fight Lawler should shine in.

He’s an extremely hard guy to take down and has all the tools on the feet, obviously, to knock Woodley out. Woodley has a chance in the early rounds and I think that’s probably about it.”

UFC 201 is set to go down live from the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 30th, 2016. The card is headlined by a welterweight title showdown between Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley.

Cristiane ‘Cyborg’ Justino is coming hot off a first round knockout win over Leslie Smith in her UFC debut in her hometown of Curitiba, Brazil at UFC 198, and is desperate to finally get her shot at the former UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey.

Less than 24-hours after defeating Smith in her hometown of Curitiba, ‘Cyborg’ called out Rousey via Twitter to a potential showdown at the UFC’s first ever event in Madison Square Garden at UFC 205:

Now Justino has taken it a step further, taunting ‘The Rowdy One’ in a new Running Man Challenge video alongside a little friend. The two are seen below wearing Rousey masks, dancing to Ghost Town DJ’s ‘My Boo’:

According to reports per FOX Sports’ Elias Cepeda, the Brazilian’s next fight is to go down at July 29th’s Invicta FC 18 event where Justino is expected to defend her featherweight title.

‘Cyborg’ is also said to be open to doing another catchweight bout in the UFC, however, only against a champion or Rousey. Following her debut at UFC 198, Justino was linked to rumors of a possible bout between Germaine de Randamie at UFC 201.

Cyborg later disputed these claims via Twitter, stating her next bout would be to defend her Invicta FC featherweight title:

No official word has yet come on when ‘Cyborg’s’ next bout will be, or if she will make a return to the UFC, however a bout with Rousey would certainly be a spectacle in of itself regardless of what card it takes place. After so much frustration and difficulty getting Justino to the UFC’s main stage, many fans had hoped she’d perhaps leave behind the Invicta title, but without a featherweight division in the UFC that would always be an unlikely scenario.

Stay with LowKick for the latest on ‘Cyborg’ and when she might make her highly-anticipated Octagon return.

After signing a new eight-fight contract extension with the UFC this week, welterweight contender “The Immortal” Matt Brown has his latest Octagon assignment.

Brown will look to bounce back from his UFC 198 loss to Demian Maia earlier this month when he meets Jake Ellenberger in a 170-pound showdown in July.

According to ESPN, Brown-Ellenberger has been verbally agreed to for the upcoming UFC 201 pay-per-view.

Headlined by Robbie Lawler vs. Tyron Woodley for the UFC Welterweight Championship, UFC 201 is scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia.

After compiling an impressive seven-fight win streak between 2012 and 2014, Matt “The Immortal” Brown has hit some rough times as of late, losing three out of his last four bouts.

Most recently competing at May 14’s UFC 198, Brown is coming off of a rather one-sided loss to Brazilian grappling wizard Demian Maia. Despite his recent troubles, he has faced off with the best the division has to offer, as his other two losses in that stretch have come at the hands of former champion Johny Hendricks and reigning title holder Robbie Lawler.

Looking to bounce back quickly, the 35-year-old Brown appears to already have his next fight set.

According to ESPN.com, “The Immortal” will meet fellow struggling veteran Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger at July 30’s UFC 201 from the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia live on pay-per-view (PPV).

Ellenberger has hit even rougher times than Brown as of late, losing five of his last six Octagon showings. The 31-year-old suffered a brutal stoppage loss to Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson last July, as well as a unanimous decision loss to Tarec Saffiedine last January.

This fight makes sense for both men, as each combatant is looking to rebound after disappointing losses.

UFC 201 will be headlined by an intriguing welterweight title clash as Lawler once again puts his 170-pound strap on the line against Tyron “The Chosen One” Woodley.

The co-main event will also feature a title fight as dominant flyweight kingpin Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson meets veteran Wilson Reis.

While the next season of The Ultimate Fighter will feature flyweights vying for a shot at the UFC championship, one contender in the division doesn’t plan on tuning in at all.

Ian McCall, who is rumored for a return to the Octagon at UFC 201 vs. Justin Scoggins, voiced his displeasure with TUF on Twitter recently.

Th 31-year-old McCall (13-5-1) had his two-fight win streak snapped in early 2015 at the hands of John Lineker. He lost to Demetrious Johnson, the current UFC champion, back in 2012 in the tournament semifinals after their first bout was declared a majority draw.
