On This Day: Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz 2 - One of the Greatest Fights of All Time - August 20, 2016

On this day in 2016, Conor McGregor met Nate Diaz in one of the most-watched rematches in UFC pay-per-view history.

McGregor and Diaz first met five months earlier in the UFC 196 headliner. Despite coming in on short notice to replace an injured Rafael dos Anjos, the ‘Stockton Samurai’ shocked the world with a second-round submission victory over the Irish megastar.

It was the first loss of McGregor’s career inside the Octagon.

Five months later, they would run it back at T-Mobile Arena in what would become one of the UFC’s biggest events of all time. This time around McGregor would come out on top, scoring a majority decision via two 48-47 scorecards while a third judge ruled the fight a 47-47 draw.

With 1.65 million buys, UFC 202 was the most-bought PPV card in UFC history, up to that point. Two years later, ‘Mystic Mac’ broke the record once again with his UFC 229 clash against Khabib Nurmagomedov — the first and only UFC pay-per-view to eclipse two million buys.

As it stands, his sequel with Diaz is still the third-highest-grossing PPV of all time, sitting only behind UFC 229 and McGregor’s trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.

Despite taking separate career paths, Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz remain adamant that their trilogy fight will happen

With the series deadlocked at 1-1, everyone expected a trilogy fight between Diaz and the then-featherweight champion to be booked in short order. Eight years later, we’re still waiting.

Following their duology, McGregor and Diaz went down separate paths. McGregor’s next fight saw him score a third-round TKO against Eddie Alvarez to claim the lightweight championship, making him the promotion’s first-ever simultaneous two-division titleholder.

As for Diaz, the Stockton, CA native only fought four more times under the UFC banner, going 2-2 including wins over Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis and Tony Ferguson. Diaz exited the UFC in September 2022 with plans to pursue a career in boxing. Since then, he’s stepped inside the squared circle twice, dropping a unanimous decision to Jake Paul before landing a majority decision against BMF rival Jorge Masvidal a year later.

Despite no longer being signed by the UFC, Nate Diaz is confident that he and Conor McGregor will close out their trilogy at some point.

“I 100% guarantee I’m going to fight Conor McGregor again,” Diaz said at a media event to promote his boxing match with Jorge Masvidal.

McGregor has also remained adamant that the threequel will happen, telling Ariel Helwani in an in-studio interview last year, “I’ll get that again. That trilogy will happen at some stage, for sure.”

Conor McGregor’s Trainer Slams UFC For Stiffing Him

Conor McGregor’s coach isn’t happy with the UFC.

The UFC may have posted a record profit in 2017 thanks to Conor McGregor’s boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, but that apparently isn’t helping “The Notorious’” longtime coach John Kavanagh.

Kavanagh, the longtime SBG Ireland head man, recently took to Twitter to blast the promotion for supposedly stiffing him on expenses he incurred to corner one of the finalists for this week’s (Fri., July 6, 2018) The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 27 Finale during International Fight Week.

And it was none too kind. Check out the since-deleted tweet right here:

i guess times hard at @ufc just messaged me to say they cant collect me from airport so need to make my own way to hotel. even though i’ve a @UltimateFighter finalist and undercard guy on friday. also paid for my own flight/hotel as they only cover 1 warm up each #prayforUFC

It’s not hard times for the UFC, so to say, thanks to their record profits last year, although other indicating factors may predict a storm on the horizon with slumping pay-per-view sales and ratings decline on just about every relevant measurable number.

But for now, the UFC has their record profit, and a lot of that was because of the massive cost-cutting measures implemented by UFC owners Endeavor (formerly WME-IMG) since they bought the company in 2016.

Just like the rest of the MMA world, it appears Kavanagh will need the “Notorious” megastar to return to the octagon sooner than later.

Conor McGregor Skipped Lawsuit Deposition To Commit UFC 223 Attack

McGregor has been in a ton of legal trouble lately.

Conor McGregor’s legal issues continue to pile up.

Back in August of 2016 McGregor got into some hot water after engaging in a water bottle and Monster Energy can war with Nate Diaz and his team ahead of their UFC 202 pay-per-view (PPV) clash.

Some innocent bystanders suffered as a result, as William Pegg is suing McGregor for at least $95,000 after the Irishman allegedly hit him with a Monster Energy can ‘in the back near his left shoulder.’

McGregor missed his scheduled deposition for the incident as he was in jail for his UFC 223 fighter bus attack. The deposition was scheduled for April 6th, however, on April 5th “The Notorious One” stormed media day in Brooklyn ahead of the PPV and threw a dolly through a fighter bus window, injuring several fighters in the process. He turned himself in to local authorities several hours later.

The deposition was set to take place in Las Vegas, however, McGregor was jailed in New York after the bus attack and was unable to make it.

According to a report from The Blast, William Pegg is not happy about this:

“In his emergency motion to compel, Pegg says the fighter has delayed the depo since September 2017. He explains the deadline to have it done is in October but McGregor refuses to give him available dates. Pegg says McGregor’s deposition was scheduled for April 6, 2018, but “McGregor did not appear for his deposition. Instead, on the night of April 5, 2018, he was throwing metal barriers and other objects at the UFC 223, at which he was not scheduled to appear.”

“He accuses the fighter of delaying the depo for months and is demanding the judge order the fighter to sit and be grilled about the case.”

Pegg is also demanding six figures in damages as well as $5000 for medical costs. He also wants the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ to turn over his financial information in order for the court to determine how much McGregor should be fined in order to teach him not to do something like this again.

Is Conor McGregor running out of cash?

The post Quote: Conor McGregor Is Running Out Of Money appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

The UFC needs him back in the cage immediately, but any real news about Conor McGregor’s supposed MMA return is difficult to find these days.

The former lightweight and featherweight champion is awaiting a court date in July to sort out assault charges stemming from his April 5 attack where he threw a dolly through a bus containing current UFC 155-pound champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, an incident for which he’s expected to ultimately not serve any jail time.

When that’s finally said and done, McGregor is expected to return for a massive megafight with “The Eagle,” although many are questioning if it will happen due to “The Notorious’” actions following his reported $85 million payday to box Floyd Mayweather last summer. However, he lives an extremely lavish lifestyle where even that much cash is drained quickly, so at least one person close to the situation thinks McGregor will have to return soon.

Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz recently told TMZ Sports that McGregor is running low on income and has “agreed” to fight Nurmagomedov for that one reason. If he does, Abdelaziz said they would contribute to his monetary gains because they owed him something:

“Conor’s running out of money. This is why he agreed to fight Khabib.

“It’s okay,” Ali says … “We’re gonna contribute of him making some money, but at the end of the day we owe him an ass whooping. He needs to get his ass whooped from Khabib.”

The outspoken representative then gave a take on McGregor’s so-called attitude of being a ‘gangster’ by claiming it never ends well for those kinds of men:

“He thinks he’s a gangster,” Ali says … “I don’t think he is. But, when you think you’re a gangster, you’re going to get treated like a gangster. And gangster, they end in jail or get beat up.”

Abdelaziz’s words suggest he’s trying to goad McGregor out of hiding, something he’s only done for his court date recently. Talk continues to swirl about his anticipated match-up with Nurmagomedov from both sides, but at this point, that’s all it is – just talk. The UFC and its fans could definitely use a fight of that magnitude as pay-per-view sales have dried up to frighteningly low levels of late.

But both sides have begun ramping up discussions of the fight, and it does have some possibility of being booked soon, at least hopefully. Three dates are being targeted according to Abdelaziz – October’s UFC 229, November’s UFC 230, and late December’s UFC 232, yet he didn’t believe he would be able to get licensed for UFC 230 due to the fact it will happen in New York City, where he is facing charges.

Seems like a lot of red tape remains for MMA’s biggest fight to get booked. It won’t be for a lack of trying to make it happen from Khabib’s camp, however.

Video: Nate Diaz Allegedly Gets Into Another Public Brawl

Nate Diaz was reportedly involved in ANOTHER public brawl:

The post Video: Nate Diaz Allegedly Gets Into Another Public Brawl appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

UFC fan favorite Nate Diaz may be a new father, but apparently, that isn’t stopping him from getting into fights anywhere but inside the cage.

Nearly a month-and-a-half after Diaz was put under police investigation for allegedly brawling with UFC veteran Clay Guida at a regional MMA event in California, TMZ Sports reported today that Diaz was involved in a brawl at the all-grappling Fight to Win Pro 77 event at the Hyatt hotel in Sacramento, California last Friday (June 22, 2018).

Video of the alleged brawl, where Diaz winds up and takes a swing at an unidentified man in the melee, can be viewed here:

Diaz has been out of the cage since his thin majority decision loss to longtime rival Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in August 2016.

He’s teased an MMA return in recent months but nothing has come close to fruition, and with multiple reports of him brawling outside the cage coming out, the question of just why he is choosing to fight under the risk of arrest for no money when he could be making millions in the UFC simply has to be asked at this point.

For what it’s worth, witnesses reportedly stated that no one was arrested in connection with the melee and Diaz gathered his crew and left.

Coupled with his brother Nick’s concerning recent arrest on domestic violence charges, it hasn’t been the best year for the Diaz brothers.

Will they ever ditch the crime and get back to fighting professionally? At this point, it’s not looking good, Diaz fans.
