With all the madness of this three-event UFC Fight Week, we seem to have overlooked the fact that a potentially amazing press conference will go down this afternoon. At 230PM ET Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor will be reunited ahead of their UFC 202 rematch. If the past is anything to go by, today’s UFC 202 tickets on sale press conference will be massively entertaining. The two fought at UFC 196 after just 11 days to fill with a pre-fight feud, and they did it ever so well.

During a rivalry that could quite easily be up there with the top three UFC beefs of all time, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor provided a handful of classic confrontations including the now infamous ‘touch butt in the park’ line by Diaz. They were originally set to rematch at this weekend’s (July 9, 2016) UFC 200 super card, but when ‘The Notorious’ was absent from the initial media obligations their fight was replaced by Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones 2. No need to tell you how that pairing ended up.

After the second round pummelling and submission victory for the Stockton bad boy on March 5, you just know he’s going to have plenty to say ahead of the rematch. On the other side of the coin it will be really interesting to see what the normally outspoken Irishman will have to offer in terms of trash talk. The UFC featherweight champion is renowned for his mental games toward opponents before fights, but in Diaz he may well have met his verbal match.

Once again fighting at welterweight, there are obvious questions about McGregor’s chances and especially considering the gap in grappling skills between the two foes. For all these reasons and more, the UFC 202 tickets on sale press conference is going to must view TV.

Be sure to join us here at LowKick for the live streaming video at 230PM ET, or check in right after for the replay.

The time has almost come for UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, and interim champion Jon Jones to meet inside the Octagon to settle their differences.

The two men have previously met once before at UFC 182 in January of last year, that saw the then-champion Jones successfully retain his title against ‘DC’ in dominating fashion.

Cormier recently spoke to FOX Sports, and commented on the exchange between him and his coach after succumbing to Jones on that fateful night:

“I usually get a better guy in the cage than I do in the gym and you didn’t do that. You fought like s–t tonight,” Cormier said.

“No patting me on the back, making me feel better, I’m crying, I’m sad — he didn’t comfort me. He told me the absolute truth. I go back and I watch that fight and he’s right. I didn’t fight at my best.”

daniel cormierCormier admitted he was ‘an emotional wreck’ leading into the first fight with Jones, however, that is no longer the case as he has not let ‘Bones’ consume his life like he did the last time:

“I’m not an emotional wreck like I was last time. Last time it was bad. Like really, really bad. Like I couldn’t even live my day-to-day life because I was so consumed by this man,” Cormier said. “Not anymore. I train for Jon Jones and I go about living my day-to-day life like I need to.

I don’t feel that blood boiling hatred that I felt the first time. I know that because I sat down with him for an hour and did an interview.

Yes it was intense but I sat there for an hour and never felt the need to jump up and grab him like I did the first time. I felt the need to sit there and do my job with the idea knowing I would get my opportunity to do what I want to do with him.”

Jones was held away from the sport due to some legal issues for nearly a year, being stripped of the belt in the process, and finally made his return to action at UFC 197 against Ovince St-Preux in April.

Many criticized Jones for a lackluster performance in the bout, not putting on the spectacle we are used to seeing when the athletic freak steps inside the Octagon. Cormier believes that the Jones that fought in April is the Jon Jones we will see at UFC 200, as the sport has changed since he’s been away:

“The guy that fought April 23 — that’s Jon Jones,” Cormier explained. “He will fight like that because that is Jon Jones today.

This isn’t Jon Jones from 2014, 2015 or anywhere going all the way back. The game is different now with everything. With USADA, with no IVs, the game is so different, the game has changed so much in the time he was away that what we saw on April 23 is who he is.

I truly believe that. In his mind, he needs to come to terms with the fact that on April 23, that was not a bad performance. That’s just the norm now for him.”

MMA: UFC 187-Johnson vs CormierWhile Jones was watching from the sidelines, Cormier was putting on spectacular performances and defeating the cream-of-the-crop that the 205-pound division has to offer. ‘DC’ defeated the likes of Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson to win the then-vacant title, and defended it in an absolute war against Swedish phenom Alexander Gustafsson:

“I’m confident but not because of the way he fought. I’m confident because of the way I fought against Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson.

That’s why I’m confident. My confidence comes from my fights and my training. My confidence doesn’t come from him looking not as good as he used to,” Cormier explained.

“My confidence doesn’t come from him doing all this power lifting and getting slower. My confidence didn’t come from all that.

My confidence comes from knowing I do the right things in my life. I do the right things in the gym. I do the right things all together.

My confidence comes from me, not from Jon Jones. I can’t draw my confidence from another person. I need to do this on my own and that’s why I’m so sure I’m going to have my hand raised on July 9.”

ufc 182 embeddedThe blockbuster main event will finally go down at UFC 202 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 9, 2016.

Ahead of his UFC 202 rematch bout with Nate Diaz, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is doing everything he can to better prepare himself in a second go-around with the Stockton native in August, and that includes brushing up on his boxing ability.

McGregor recently held a training session with former boxing champion Chris Van Heerden in May while rumors where running rampant on a possible ‘Boxing vs MMA’ fight between Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather and McGregor:

“Conor comes with a boxing background. I was surprised how well he could handle it. His boxing is really not bad. I’d say after a full training camp where the focus is 100% boxing, he might just shock a lot of boxing fans,” Van Heerden said.

Van Heerden also gave some constructive criticism to the Irishman on what he could improve on to better develop his boxing technique:

“I’d say he needs work on his footwork. Placing of feet and balance and knowing when to throw the right punch; not just throw anything out there.

He has a very good eye for timing and counter punching. I can tell you this, he will give a few boxers out there a really good go.”

The following video is the sparring session that went down between McGregor and Van Heerden:

Now Van Heerden has taken to Twitter to accuse McGregor of editing the video to make himself look better:

CmnORwNWAAA4f65.0Van Heerden later admitted he may have spoke prematurely and apologized for his comments:

McGregor will meet Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 live on pay-per-view (PPV), from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 20, 2016.

It wasn’t just he fight between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor that rocked our world, it was the entire package, head-to-toe, and all crammed in to just 11 days. When UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos dropped out of the March 5 UFC 196 main event, unlikely replacement Nate Diaz stepped in to the frame. It would be a welterweight affair, but even so the bookmakers heavily favored the featherweight champion McGregor to take home the victory.

Diaz would throw up the middle finger to the underdog status he’d been labelled with, slapping and clowning ‘The Notorious’ en route to a crazy second round submission win.

Although briefly booked to headline the blockbuster UFC 200 card this coming July 9 weekend, McGregor and Diaz have instead been scheduled to rematch at UFC 202 on August 20. In honor of that amazing first fight and what will no doubt be an insane second scrap, we’ve gone back and selected the top five moments from the Diaz/McGregor rivalry.

From the press conferences, social media rants, all the way to the fight itself and beyond, this rivalry really has it all.

5. Touch Butt In The Park

When Conor McGregor tried to take a stab at Nate Diaz’s training partners during the UFC 196 pre-fight press conference, he didn’t expect to get this response. Blasting McGregor for playing touch butt in the park with ‘the dork with the pony tail’ became an instantly classic moment in MMA history.

Diaz would end up feeding McGregor all his words and more when they met, and the next moment might well be what spurred the Stockton bad boy on to victory.

4. Gazelle Argument

During fight week for UFC 196, Diaz and McGregor sat down with FOX Sports Jay & Dan or a now historic interview. The subject of an injured gazelle was brought up, and from there onward the debate spiralled quickly in to insanity.

You know it’s the real sh*t! Yes we did, and we loved every minute of it.

3. Greatest Prediction EVER

When Nate Diaz gets on the microphone before a fight, you know there’s some good stuff about to go down. Much like his older brother Nick, the Stockton native doesn’t mince his words or try and come up with some sort of smart ass remarks.

When Nate Diaz gets asked for a prediction about his upcoming fight, you better believe he’s expecting some ninja sh*t.

2. Gun Signs With The Left Hand

At the first of two pre-fight pressers in just 11 days, Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor squared off in a trash talking showdown for the media. This was perhaps the first and only time that McGregor really got the nest of Diaz in the mental game, and boy, it was hilarious.
Funny that he brought up BJJ there, as that would be McGregor’s downfall when the two eventually met.

1. The fight, post fight interview and aftermath

We had to include all this in the last section of the list, as all deserve equal recognition for their place in UFC history. The fight itself was an absolute barn burner, back-and-forth striking exchanges before the inevitable submission win for Diaz.

Then ‘I’m not surprised motherf*ckers’ and the stream of remixes, memes and crazy reactions that spread like wildfire across the internet.
