We are now just days away from the landmark UFC 205 event, as the card is set for this Saturday night (Nov. 12, 2016) live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.
The UFC has stacked the deck from top to bottom with this card, and it’s safe to say that it will be a special night for sure. In fact, it has been billed as the biggest card in promotional history.
Let’s take a look at five reasons why it just might be:
The UFC’s New York City Debut
To start things off, UFC 205 will mark the UFC’s inaugural show at Madison Square Garden, an arena that the promotion has attempted to hold an event at for years. With the sport finally being legalized in the Empire State last year, the UFC will finally get to take the sport of mixed martial arts to the one of the most infamous arenas in the history of combat sports, and because of that, the card has an added pop to it.
The UFC has promised fight fans for years that once it was able to enter New York, a blockbuster show would soon follow, and it looks as if the promotion has owned up to it’s promise with one of the greatest cards of all-time.

Just three days away is the historic UFC 205 pay-per-view extravaganza. Featuring a host of truly incredible fights, the card is riddled with main event worthy stars from top to bottom. The prelims card alone at UFC 205 looks like a stacked PPV or maybe one of the best fight nights we’ve seen for a while. Hoping and most likely to make a big impression in NYC, the promotion has filled their basket with some golden eggs for November 12. Obviously the talk of the town has been focused on the lightweight title clash in the main event.
Facing Conor McGregor in his first lightweight title defense, Eddie Alvarez will look to play the role of ultimate spoiler. If ‘The Notorious’ is victorious, he’ll break that one record that few believed possible to attain. Holding belts in two weight divisions at once would propel McGregor’s career further in to the stratosphere. Perhaps more pivotal in terms of the sport’s future is the Irishman’s plight to double his belt collection in the UFC.
Dillon Danis’ UFC 205 Prediction
Having been brought in to train Conor McGregor in grappling before UFC 202, BJJ star Dillon Danis is now a mainstay at the featherweight champion’s camp. Once again helping the Irish striker work on his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for UFC 205, Danis has a rather bold prediction for how the fight will go down. Talking to our good friends Submission Radio, Danis says ‘The Silent Assassin’ won’t last as long as Jose Aldo did. ‘Scarface’ got starched in 13 seconds by McGregor at UFC 194 last December.
“I feel like it’ll be a knockout – either late in the first or maybe early second, or it could be a quick one. It could be quicker than Jose Aldo, maybe three seconds. He has a three-second knockout, so it could be really quick because Eddie just charges in and Conor’s too precise. He’s gonna pick him apart and he’s gonna knock him out, I feel. Yeah. Tell Eddie to come try. He’ll see what’s gonna happen. He’s gonna hit him from everywhere and if he tries to come in, he’s gonna elbow his face up. So he’s gonna beat him up bad, I think.”
“He’s Going To Kill This Man”
Talking more on the red-hot topic of UFC 205, Danis says McGregor is looking better than ever. He also discusses Alvarez’s style of trash talk during the eventful UFC 205 media call last week:
“He looks really sharp. I’ve never seen him like this. He looks ready to kill. Like he’s in great shape and he just looks super sharp. I was telling him yesterday, you’re gonna kill this man. I’m ready to see what’s gonna happen. On Saturday he’s gonna make history. I believe in him one hundred percent.”
“He was saying like all this stuff about the ‘little boy belt’ and stuff, but Chad (Mendes) is a better fighter than Eddie Alvarez. Jose Aldo would beat Eddie Alvarez up easy, I mean, who’s the more accomplished fighter? Everybody knows that Conor is. It’s just a sign of fear from Eddie trying to manifest him making fun of Conor or something, just to kind of get his emotions out because he’s scared. We’ll see who the better fighter is. Conor has beaten the better competition and it’s gonna show when he’s two-weight world champion.”
Returning at this weekend’s UFC 205, Donald Cerrone is looking to make another big statement at welterweight. Having fought the majority of his career as a lightweight, the 15-pound increase seems to have improved ‘Cowboy’s’ already high calibre form. Finishes over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Côté and Rick Story have Cerrone in good standing, holding top 10
Returning at this weekend’s UFC 205, Donald Cerrone is looking to make another big statement at welterweight. Having fought the majority of his career as a lightweight, the 15-pound increase seems to have improved ‘Cowboy’s’ already high calibre form. Finishes over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Côté and Rick Story have Cerrone in good standing, holding top 10 rankings at both 155 and 170 pounds. Standing in his way at UFC 205 is Ultimate Fighter 17 winner and surging welterweight contender Kelvin Gastelum.
‘Mini Cain’ defeated Johny Hendricks at UFC 200 last time out, and will hope to make a statement about his future title contention with a victory over Cerrone. What we saw from ‘Cowboy’ in his last fight was perhaps his greatest form to date. Dispatching Rick Story with a fluid and beautiful Muay Thai combo, Cerrone showed that welterweight is possibly the best division for him.
Middleweight? Sure
Known for his ‘anywhere, anytime’ attitude for taking fights, Donald Cerrone tells our friends Submission Radio that even a move to middleweight isn’t out of the question. Reacting to Donald Trump’s recent move to the White House, and also the talk of a fighters union, ‘Cowboy’ had some very interesting things to say ahead of UFC 205:
“I don’t give a f*ck, I’ll fight lightweight, welterweight or middleweight. I f*cking love fighting. I’m pro trump, I’m pro union too. Other fighters have been asking me how I can be pro Trump and pro union, like it’s a double negative. I’m like ‘Hey man, I can’t support what I want to support?’ I don’t even know anything about a fighters union, I need to sit down and discuss this. I need to find out what these guys stand for.”
“I’m coming up on 10 years in the UFC, and I have no pension or healthcare. Everyone’s really like ‘Hey great idea, but you do it and we’ll stand behind you.’ I’m happy to stand and be the face of the union. They are worried that they are going to get cut, am I worried? Yes and no, but hopefully I made enough of a name and people want to see me fight. There’s been no backlash, it’s f*cking America man, I can say whatever I want.”
