Donald Cerrone: Conor McGregor Turned Down Two Fights With Me

Former UFC lightweight title challenger and fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone has had his fair share of verbal battles with outspoken featherweight champion Conor McGregor, but he’s yet to get his chance against the Irishman, who will challenge lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, inside the Octagon. That isn’t because the fight hasn’t been offered, however, at least according to Cerrone.

Recently speaking on the subject, “Cowboy” said that McGregor has turned down two fights with him:

“Someone please just shut this dude up,” Cerrone said of McGregor on the “Norton & Friends” show on Wednesday. “Last night [at the UFC 205 press conference] I was going to get on the horn and start getting after him but I decided not to because you talk about him, people not taking fights, he, two times I had the obligation to fight him and he turned down and took the easier fight.

“When he fought Diaz for the first time, I just fought. So it was Sunday, I was flying home, Dana calls and asked me if I’d like to fight Conor and that was for the Diaz first fight. And, he declined me and took Diaz cause Diaz was in Mexico you know, took the fight on 10 days notice or whatever. But, why would he want to fight me coming off a win? So yeah, my name was in the hat. Conor and his people didn’t pick me.”

It’s for this reason, that Cerrone isn’t a fan of McGregor’s iconic trash talk. He also accused the “Notorious” one of acting different when the cameras are off and away:

“I get annoyed when he wants to talk about he’s the ‘best in the world and I’ll fight anybody’ blah blah blah but when it comes time, like there’s a lot that people don’t know about right. Behind the scenes stuff but I know. I knew he’s like, ‘Yeah, no no no no,’ cause we were trying. And I didn’t even want to negotiate more money. I said, ‘F–k you let’s go. I’ll fight you for whatever.”

“This dude same thing like last night, he’s good at when cameras are on talking sh-t. You get him in the back he don’t say nothing. F–k no, I been in the back many times with him.”

What do you make of Cerrone’s comments?

Former undisputed and current UFC interim featherweight champion Jose Aldo is having a rough week. Following the announcement of Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor at UFC 205, ‘Scarface’ came out of the blue with retirement talk. Blasting UFC president Dana White for being ‘McGregor’s puppet,’ Aldo said he no longer wants to fight anymore. Asking for his release from the contract he’s signed to with the UFC, the Brazilian has also indicated he’d be willing to fight the UFC in court.

Sounding similar? Another Brazilian icon of MMA in Wanderlei Silva, although for different reasons, has also walked this path. After some controversy with NSAC drug testers in 2014. Silva was lumped with a lifetime ban, but following negotiations it was reduced to three years. Still eligible to fight in Japan, ‘The Axe Murderer’ was scooped up by former Pride FC Sakakibara’s Rizin Fighting Federation.

Wand Reaches Out To Aldo

Seeing his countryman’s furious reaction to once again losing out on a rematch with Conor McGregor, Wanderlei Silva has reached out to Jose Aldo. Thanks to Reddit user ‘TrulySkeptical’ for the translation, here’s what Wandy posted to his Facebook page:

It saddens me to see someone so young and with so much potential like Aldo having his will to fight being thrown away. Aldo, I am here to tell you that I am with you. I always respected your attitude as a fighter and your team.

I want to tell you that, as someone who represents Rizin, the doors are open. I want to invite you to fight in Japan, where you’ll be respected and be put in your place. Me, as a Rizin ambassador here in Brazil, want to invite you to come with me to Japan and make history there. There you’ll have the respect you deserve, my champion.

In this promotion, the same you want to leave from, they took my will to fight, I know what you are going through, but there in Japan I am being treated as a samurai, as a champion that I am, and having the respect that I deserve, and the respect that you also deserve.

Aldo, come with me to fight in Japan. Rizin has open doors for you. As a Rizin ambassador I am inviting you. Come, because you’ll be well treated, as you deserve, my champion. God bless you, today and always, “we are always Aldo”, the best of all time.

Jose Aldo

Will Aldo Go East?

Although knocked out by Conor McGregor at UFC 194, Jose Aldo returned in great form at UFC 200. Defeating Frankie Edgar in a tough war, ‘Scarface’ showed he certainly still has the fire. It’ll be interesting to see if he does take Wanderlei Silva up on his offer.

Aldo’s Coach To UFC: Let Him Leave!

After hearing the news that featherweight champion Conor McGregor would be fighting lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at November 12’s UFC 205 from New York yesterday, interim 145-pound titleholder Jose Aldo, one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world, asked to be released from his UFC contract, and it looks as if he was quite serious with his request.

Today (September 28, 2016), Aldo’s longtime head coach, Andre Pederneieras, said that the Brazilian may look to take the promotion to court:

“I think Dana and the new owners have to understand that there’s a completely unsatisfied employee who doesn’t want to continue,” Pederneiras said, according to MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz, translating from Portuguese. “If that was in Brazil and a guy said ‘Boss, I want to leave,’ I’d say ‘OK, I can’t hold you.’ The contract we have in the UFC, ‘Boss, I want to leave,’ the answer is ‘No, you’ll be stuck with me, you might not do anything, but you can’t leave here.’ Is that something nice?

“I think it creates dissatisfaction, and he will want to go to court. He would have to go to court to cut this contract. And the damage a dissatisfied person, someone like Aldo, talking s— to everyone about a lot of things, I think the company wouldn’t want a guy like this every day in the media talking trash. Since the guy doesn’t want to do it, let him leave! ‘I just want to leave, I don’t want to stay here anymore, I don’t want to fight here. I don’t want to be in anymore.’ We don’t want a war, we don’t want a fight, we don’t want to talk bad about anyone. We only want the right to say ‘I don’t want to be here anymore. It’s not about money, I don’t want to be here anymore.’”

After knocking out Aldo in just 13 seconds last December, McGregor took two fights at welterweight against Nate Diaz and will now fight Alvarez, making it obvious why Aldo is upset. Aside from that, fighter treatment has long been a growing issue within the UFC, and an issue that Aldo has often spoke about.

Do you expect to see “Scarface” actually leave the UFC?

Tyron Woodley Demands Respect From UFC 205 Presser Boo-Birds

There was little to no love shown for UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley at yesterday’s UFC 205 press conference from Madison Square Garden, as ‘The Chosen One’ was reigned down on with a shower of boos from the New York crowd.

Woodley won the welterweight crown by breezing past Robbie Lawler in their main event clash at UFC 201 earlier this year, securing his first UFC title in his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

While receiving the plethora of boos from the crowd, Woodley admitted he had never been boo’d before and called it ‘dope’, but would then go on to tell the crowd that even if they don’t like him they must respect him and call him the welterweight champion of the world:

“You can boo if you want but there’s one thing you have to call me and that’s the welterweight champion of the world,” Woodley said (courtesy of MMA Mania). “I knocked out the most vicious welterweight — the fighter of the year with fights of the year — in record-breaking time. So you have to respect me no matter what.”

Across from Woodley sitting on the opposite side of UFC President Dana White was the man who will challenge ‘The Chosen One’ for his 170-pound throne, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

Thompson has been stopping perennial welterweight contenders left and right, with his two most recent victories over former champ Johny Hendricks and Rory MacDonald propelling him into contendership.

As the UFC 205 card currently sits, Woodley and Thompson will meet in the main event live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City on November 12, 2016.

Conor McGregor made it clear that he loves New York during yesterday’s UFC 205 press conference from Madison Square Garden, but he may be enjoying it a bit TOO much heading into his lightweight title fight against Eddie Alvarez in the main event of the UFC’s New York debut on November 12.

That is, if the burning cigarette he’s holding in this photo of him partying in NYC last night is actually a joint. McGregor posted the following photo on Instagram earlier today, and from the look of things, he”s living it up in a big way. The truth of the matter remains unknown, but it’s going to be something that USADA most certainly takes note of nonetheless.

In the meantime, check out the photo and decide for yourself:

Dana White: Conor McGregor Is Going Through Some ‘Personal Stuff’

The ink is just starting to dry on the bout agreement that is pitting UFC lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez, and 145-pound champ Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 205 this November for the 155-pound strap.

McGregor is coming off of a five round slugfest with rival Nate Diaz at UFC 202 this past August, in which the Irishman seemed to have suffered an apparent foot injury after unloading a barrage of leg kicks on the ‘Scrap Pack’ member.

UFC President Dana White took to Sports Center, courtesy of The Bloody Elbow, to discuss just how serious McGregor’s foot injury really is:

“So, after the Nate Diaz fight, [McGregor] injured his foot. And the doctor basically said, ‘There’s no real damage there, it’s an old injury, but you need to stay off your foot for a few weeks,’” White said.

Nate Diaz-Conor McGregor“Conor and I were going back and forth about the foot, and I said, ‘Listen, you’re not a doctor,’ and he told me, ‘I know my body better than you do.’ So I’ll give him that one, and he wants the fight. It’s the reason we all love Conor McGregor.”

While it may seem like the money-fueled McGregor might be a pest when it’s time to meet at the negotiation table, White stated that working with the featherweight champ actually is ‘not that bad’:

“It’s actually not that bad,” White said. “He’s an intelligent guy. The thing that I love and respect about Conor McGregor is that he loves to fight and he wants to fight everybody. So he’s my kind of guy.”

The UFC President then went on to state that ‘Notorious’ is also going through some personal issues at the moment, that he is sure McGregor will announce when he is ready:

“He’s got some stuff going on right now, some personal stuff that I’m sure he’ll announce when he’s ready,” White said.

What do you think McGregor’s ‘personal stuff’ could be? Will it affect his performance come fight night in New York?
