5. Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier Need To Rematch

One fight that had fight fans on the edge of their seats was the 155-pound clash between former lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and “The Diamond” Dustin Poirier. The pair are two of the most game fighters on the UFC’s roster today, and their brawl didn’t disappoint.

Alvarez came in off of his second round knockout loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 205 last November, in which he dropped the lightweight title, and pushed the pace against Poirier early. Eventually “The Underground King” paid for it after he was struck with some nice shots from Poirier that had him rocked bad.

The former 155-pound champ was able to retaliate and rock “The Diamond” right back, however, once he got him to the ground he threw some illegal knees that forced a stop to the action, and the ref waived the fight off.

Both men put on an extraordinary match, and showed great respect and understanding towards one another after the fight. This is one that mixed martial arts (MMA) fans want to see run back once again.

In the co-main event from last night’s (Sat. May 13, 2017) UFC 211 pay-per-view (PPV), UFC strawweight champion Joanna J?drzejczyk attempted to make her fifth consecutive title defense against heavy-hitting No. 3-ranked contender Jessica Andrade.

J?drzejczyk came into the fight on a 13-fight win streak as she is undefeated in her mixed martial arts (MMA) career. Andrade was riding a three-fight win streak since her 115-pound debut; defeating the likes of Jessica Penne, Joanna Calderwood, and Angela Hill in dominant fashion.

“Joanna Champion” landed a plethora of leg kicks and and high kicks throughout the course of the 25-minute bout and was able to out-class her Brazilian counterpart on the feet overall. The Polish knockout artist also showed great movement and elusiveness en-route to a unanimous decision victory over Andrade, solidifying herself as the most dominant female champion in the UFC today.

J?drzejczyk’s next title challenger has yet to be determined, however, it is expected that No. 4-ranked Rose Namajunas will get the honors after her dominant win over Michelle Waterson.

Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic took one step closer to making MMA history when he tied the all-time record for title defenses at the weight class when he finished longtime rival Junior dos Santos in the first round of the main event of last night’s (Sat., May 13, 2017) UFC 211 from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

The champ did see some early adversity when he was repeatedly kicked in the shin, causing some swelling to open up on the champion’s leg. Perhaps knowing he was hurt, Miocic responded by pressuring dos Santos with a barrage of power punches, hitting “Cigano” with some huge ones on the fence to drop him.

The Brazilian former champion turtled and was done for, but for some reason Miocic was allowed to unload a completely unnecessary onslaught of ground and pound before referee Herb Dean stopped the bout.

This evening’s (Sat., May 13, 2017) UFC 211 is in the books from the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, and two of MMA’s fastest-rising champions have retained their titles in dominant form.

In the main event, heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic tied the UFC record for most title defenses in the division with his second over Junior dos Santos, a bout where he gained revenge for his razor-thin loss to “Cigano” nearly two-and–half years ago with a first-round TKO win.

In the co-main, women’s strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk showed just how far above she is the rest of the 115-pound weigh class, destroying a game Jessica Andrade with a five-round display of nearly pinpoint technical striking prowess. For her part, the young Andrade was tough as nails despite being out of her league, as she never quit coming forward trying to land a big shot on the champion.
