In the episode, former champion Holly Holm continues preparing with her team in Albuquerque. Women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg trains outdoors for another holiday fight night. It seems like every few months there is a new MMA fighter who is considering jumping to the boxing world. Although there are a lot of fight fans who are tired of hearing about it, the chances of it happening are pretty good with the potential launch of Zuffa Boxing set to emerge in 2018.

Well, now, we can throw current UFC women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg’s name into that conversation.

She is slated to defend her title against former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 219. During the media conference call (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting) to hype this upcoming fight, Cyborg claimed that she would like to do one boxing fight.

The reason she wants to do this career move is due to her wanting to test herself in different combat sports like Muay Thai and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Cyborg would go on to say that she regretted turning down an opportunity to get into the boxing ring at the end of her career.

“I love to compete. I was competing when I was 12-years-old. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but you learn,” she said. I like to compete in everything I like to compete in jiu-jitsu, I like to compete in wrestling and Muay Thai, and if I have a chance to compete in boxing one day, why not? I think when you train in just one sport separately you learn more.

“It would be really nice to finish my career and maybe do one boxing fight, but I don’t know if that will happen.”

Cyborg added that she has already told UFC President Dana White that she would like to follow in Conor McGregor’s footsteps and compete in boxing once.

“Dana knows that. I told him if I had an opportunity like McGregor to do one boxing fight, yeah I would like to do that. I love my job, I love to fight and I love to compete,” said Cyborg. I don’t want to end my career and think about why I didn’t do it. I want to do it. I must train hard and do what I have in front of me when they have an opportunity for me.”

It’s been well documented that Jimmie Rivera was scheduled to take on former champion Dominick Cruz at this weekend’s UFC 219 event. Once Cruz suffered an injury, John Lineker stepped up to accept the fight against Rivera.

Just last week, it was reported that Lineker has also suffered an injury that has forced him off the card as well.

Now, Rivera is saying he’d be willing to fight in a 138-pound catchweight contest to make it happen against top prospect and former WSOF Champion Marlon Moraes.

“Marlon, let’s do the fight at 140,” Rivera said in a video posted on Twitter. “You said you wanted the fight. Got to be professional. I’m giving you four pounds. 140. Let me know.”

Moraes’ manager, Ali Abdelaziz, then made his feelings known on the 138-pound offer quite clear on Twitter by writing the following:

Unfortunately, It seems negotiations aren’t exactly heading in the right direction.

“Merry Christmas everybody! @JimmieRivera135 now you fight on my terms. You turn down fight with me two times now I’m ready to fight you buddy on my terms not your terms I’m going to remind you of old memories you know what I’m sayin @danawhite @seanshelby @Mickmaynard2.”

UFC 219 is set to take place on Saturday, December 30, 2017, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET while the preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass, at 7 p.m. ET.

Cris Cyborg vs. Holly Holm for the UFC female featherweight title will serve as the headliner while Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Edson Barboza in a lightweight bout will serve as the co-main event. Rounding out the five-bout card is Jimmie Rivera vs. TBA in a bantamweight bout, Carla Esparza vs. Cynthia Calvillo in a women’s strawweight bout, and Carlos Condit vs. Neil Magny in a welterweight bout.
