There was some drama coming out the latest UFC pay-per-view event involving MMA Veteran Hector Lombard.

As seen on the preliminary card of Saturday’s (March 3, 2018) UFC 222 event on pay-per-view at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, there was some controversy. Lombard feels the referee made the wrong call to disqualify him during his bout against CB Dollaway on FOX Sports 1.

Now, Lombard plans to file an appeal for the decision to the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

If you recall, Lombard was declared the loser by disqualification when Dollaway was cracked with a pair of punches that landed following the bell for the end of the first round.

This led to the referee stopping the fight as Dolloway was out of it and didn’t know what happened.

Lombard went on record after the event while speaking with the media that he was merely defending himself against an attack from Dollaway that came at the bell.

He believes the decision by the judges should be overturned.

“I feel like it should be a no contest,” Lombard told MMAjunkie on Sunday. I don’t see why (Dollaway) gets the win,” he said. “There’s a rule that you protect yourself at all times during the fight. If he throws a kick at me, I’m going to throw back.”

I don’t think I did anything wrong, and I don’t feel like I have to apologize to anybody,” Lombard said. “I just feel like he didn’t want to fight, and that’s not on me.”

Mackenzie Dern Not Expecting Fast Track To Title Shot

Highly decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Mackenzie Dern made her long-awaited UFC debut last night, scoring a decision victory over Ashley Yoder at UFC 222 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

And although she didn’t get the finish, Dern said that she was ‘happy’ with her performance:

“I was happy with my performance,” Dern told MMAjunkie. “I didn’t think it was bad. I know everybody wants me to get a quick submission, but I’m here to show I’m a well-rounded athlete – that I can strike and go to the ground. I think when I decided I wanted to take it to the ground, I was able to. I went to her back, and I had the choke in place.

“I think the most important thing is knowing the risks I’m taking, to really keep my chin down, see the punches coming. She’s a southpaw. That was really hard. She was much – not much, but taller than me, had a distance that I’m still getting used to. I think I can take a lot from it that I can improve on.”

And in Dern’s opinion, it may have actually been beneficial that she didn’t get the finish, as she claims that it was important for her to get some rounds under her belt:

“I think the most important thing was to get to feel those three rounds in the UFC,” Dern said. “I don’t want to get to the belt not having gone to a second or third round, not having been through rough times, not having been knocked (down) or gotten scared. I think it was a good experience to feel that and get this confidence on the feet.”

Moving forward, Dern said that she’d be interested in competing again at UFC 224, which is set to take place in May in Brazil:

“I don’t think they’re going to put me on the fast track to go the title, because I think I can help the UFC just as much as they’re helping me,” Dern said. “I think, for sure, they don’t want t make a bad matchup. I think I showed I have a lot of heart. I like to fight. I don’t mind to stay standing up, and I don’t mind to go to the ground.

“So I think they’ll take the time, but I’m ready to fight. I want to fight again in May, Brazil (UFC 224, in Rio de Janeiro). I want to fight anywhere.”

Last summer, Cris Cyborg was briefly scheduled to defend her 145-pound title against Invicta featherweight champ Megan Anderson, but Anderson was forced to withdraw due to personal reasons.

Cyborg then on went on to successfully defend her title against Tonya Evinger and Holly Holm before meeting Yana Kunitskaya in the main event of last night’s (March 3, 2018) UFC 222 from Las Vegas, Nevada.

Despite taking the fight on short notice, Cyborg showed up in peak form, scoring a dominant first-round TKO victory.

And now, Anderson is finally hoping to get a crack at the Brazilian slugger:

While the fight certainly makes sense, the UFC has appeared interested in booking a super fight between Cyborg and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. That matchup is certainly an intriguing one as well, and it could take place at UFC 224 in May in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Who would you like to see Cyborg fight next?

UFC 222 last night (March 3, 2018) from Las Vegas, Nev., had a little bit of everything.

From young prospects upsetting established veterans to a dominant performance by the women’s featherweight champion, Saturday night was a barnburner.

Brian Ortega did the unthinkable by becoming the first man to finish Frankie Edgar in his entire career, Cyborg proved why there’s only one fight that makes sense for her, and surging newcomer Sean O’Malley showed some serious heart after appearing to break his leg against Andre  Soukhamthath.

On a night full of intriguing, unique action, some great potential bouts arose for the immediate future. We broke down the five best fights to make after UFC 222 here:

5. Andrei Arlovski vs. Winner of Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov

Arlovski keeps plugging along in the heavyweight division, and now he’s riding a two-fight win streak after defeating Stefan Struve on the main card of UFC 222.

While both men offered tepid performances, Arlovski still won, so he lives to see another day within the Octagon. He’s had a rough go with the top of the division, but it’s a shallow one.

Still, he’s on a two-fight win streak, so a fight with the winner of March 17’s Fabricio Werdum vs. Alexander Volkov main event in London makes sense for the former champion. Werdum, a former champion himself, or Volkov, who beat Struve by knockout in his last fight, is the best possible match-up for Arlovski at this stage of his career.

Werdum or Volkov gets the chance to add another big name to their list of vanquished enemies, or Arlovski wins and begins another improbable win streak.

Either way, it’s the fight to make.
