Earlier today, speculation ran wild when UFC President Dana White revealed he would ‘try’ to make the UFC 230 co-main between Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier a five-round main event.

White and the UFC announced that the UFC 230 main event would feature Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks earlier this week. The decision left many fans surprised and shocked that bout would headline a major PPV from New York.

The UFC exec was asked about the fight’s status at the beginning of today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference. White gave a brief update on the on Diaz vs. Poirier:

“We’re still working on New York. And as far I know right now, that’s fight’s happening. Yes.”

Pressed about whether it was the main event or not, White backed off his promise and emphatically said it was not:

“No. Not the main event.”

Well, that’s that. At least for now, as White has been known to say one thing and do the other immediately afterward. As he likes to say, ‘we’ll see what happens.’ Indeed we will.

We’re only two days away from this weekend’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) massively awaited UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Somewhat auspiciously, there’s been precious little mainstream media blitz for perhaps the biggest fight in UFC history. That’s about to change with today’s UFC 229 pre-fight press conference, however.

McGregor definitely got the ball rolling with last month’s press event from New York. The event was media-only, and that dynamic made the whole scene a bit eerie in the eyes of many as a result. That will all change today. Fans will be in attendance and you can be certain McGregor will be playing to them. He did just that with a raucous prediction at yesterday’s open workouts.

His patented behavior should only be ramped up into the stratosphere today.

Get hyped for McGregor’s return and the UFC’s biggest fight of all-time.

This weekend’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is rapidly approaching. Main event fighters Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor put on a show for fans at Wednesday’s UFC 229 open workout.

It was hardly a surprise to hear McGregor go off with a brash prediction of a devastating KO. Nurmagomedov responded in kind at his own open workout because of it. ‘The Eagle’ went a bit off of his normal routine and accused McGregor’s grandfather of killing the Irish.

But this fight needs little more smack talk due to the deep-seeded bad blood already involved. It’s the UFC’s most anticipated fight of all-time for good reason. It will also shape the future of the stacked UFC lightweight division as a result.

The main event of this weekend’s (Sat., October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, is getting heat like no other UFC PPV. So it’s hardly a surprise that Conor McGregor goes off at the open workouts.

McGregor is finally set to return. He’s been on a nearly two-year absence. Now, he will step back into the Octagon to face lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Their rivalry extends far out of the cage, though. The Irish former champ was obviously arrested on assault charges for his infamous New York City bus attack this April.

“The Notorious” continued his trash talk by berating Khabib, his father, and his manager to the fullest during the lone press event for the card thus far. That got the hype rolling, yet McGregor took things to another level during today’s (Wed., October 3, 2018) UFC 229 open workouts from the Park Theater in Las Vegas.

McGregor took the mic from Megan Olivi and proceeded to sounds off like he can. He first offered his excitement at being back doing what he does best (via MMA Fighting):

“Yeah, it’s good to be back doing the thing I love the most, and that’s competing for my fans. Saturday night, it’s gonna be short, trust me on that. I’m going to take his head off, trust me.”

He was then asked for his prediction for the momentous bout. True to form, McGregor predicted another devastating knockout in true ‘Mystic Mac’ style:

“Devastating KO. Too easy to hit, too flat-footed too predictable. I’m gonna knock him clean out.”

What Wrestling?

Khabib has never lost in the UFC or MMA, let alone been knocked out. McGregor doesn’t care about that. He’s more focused on implementing his dangerous striking skills. The former two-division UFC champ admitted as much. He doesn’t even care about Khabib’s fearsome wrestling and grappling.

MMA’s biggest star said he was coming out of the gate guns blazing:

“I’m gonna come out the gate fast. I don’t give a f*ck about anything — any wrestling, any technique, any anything. I’m coming for that man’s head from the f*cking bell. Trust me on that.”

The hype for UFC 229 should get kicked into pure overdrive due to tomorrow’s pre-fight press conference. Fans will be allowed to attend this time unlike the New York City presser. McGregor should be on absolute fire as a result.

From the look of things, however, he already is.

Anderson Silva Reacts To Conor McGregor’s Callout

Conor McGregor recently expressed interest in fighting UFC legend Anderson Silva. It’s time Silva reacts to that callout. Conor McGregor recently expressed interest in fighting UFC legend Anderson Silva. It’s time Silva reacts to that callout.

The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion will face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of this weekend’s (October 6, 2018) UFC 229 from Las Vegas. But as always, he’s continuously looking forward to the biggest and best options for his career.

Silva is apparently on his short list of prospective opponents moving forward. The longtime former middleweight champion was recently exonerated by USADA. Because his name has been cleared, he can return to action this month. Silva does not yet have a fight booked.

When he does return, however, he’s apparently onboard with a potentially massive super fight with McGregor. The all-time great just posted on his official Instagram account that it would ‘be an honor’ to face McGregor. Silva also appears to know the current climate of the fight game. He’s seen the focus on super fights.

‘The Spider’s’ Response

Check out his response to McGregor (translated from Portuguese by MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz):

“It would be an honor to test myself with Conor McGregor. He’s an unorthodox fighter and has proven he must be respected. Let’s make it happen.

“The UFC wants superfights, I’m sure fans from all over the world want to see this fight. Professionally, I believe it would be incredible to test my martial arts abilities with a fighter like Conor McGregor in a true superfight. He’s focused on fighting Khabib Nurmagomedov now, after this fight I’m ready for this challenge. When and where he wants.”

The 43-year-old Silva has been out of action since February 2017. He was set to face Kelvin Gastelum last fall but was removed due to his USADA issues. ‘The Spider’ is considered one of the greatest mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters of all-time.

He set a record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC with a 16-fight streak from 2006-2013 and will go down in history because of it. But Silva is far out of his prime. He’s also never fought at less than 185 pounds in the UFC. Silva did fight at welterweight before his UFC career.

That’s the highest division McGregor has competed at. It’s unlikely Silva would be able to cut down to 170 due to his advancing age. But stranger things have happened, and even though Silva is aging quickly, this fight would still be like printing money.

Is it one you want to see after UFC 229?
