Covington continues to take shots at RDA after their fight.

Colby Covington is your interim UFC welterweight champion of the world.

Chaos defeated former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event of the UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) this past weekend (Sat. June 9, 2018) via unanimous decision. As a result, he is all but guaranteed a shot at undisputed 170-pound king Tyron Woodley.

During his fight against RDA, however, Covington found it difficult to get his Brazilian counterpart to the ground. Rather then credit the former 155-pound champ’s takedown defense, Covington believes that dos Anjos was greasing.

Covington was interviewed on BJ Penn Radio and asked about his fight with RDA, to which the American Top Team product stated that he believes his opponent was “100-percent greased” (quotes via MMA Mania):

“I was gonna take him down and beat him up, but my takedowns weren’t as effective because he was definitely greasing. He was 100-percent greased.

“Usually, when I get those bodylocks behind you there’s no way to slip out, but I could feel him slip out, you know. He’s just another filthy animal, cheater greaser. I think before the fight he was putting on the coconut butter – whatever they do – and then the baby oil.

“He was definitely doing it. I tried a couple of shots on his legs and literally my hands slipped from up on top of his leg and he was able to like slither on through.”

RDA isn’t the only fighter on the UFC 225 card being accused of greasing. It’s still unclear if the Illinois State Athletic Commission (ISAC) will look into either one of these accusations, but we’ll keep you updated.

Robert Whittaker Reacts To Yoel Romero Trilogy Talk

It doesn’t seem like Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero will be fighting again anytime soon:

Following Robert Whittaker’s controversial decision victory over Yoel Romero in their UFC 225 main event rematch this past weekend (June 9, 2018), UFC color commentator Joe Rogan asked Whittaker about a potential trilogy match between the two.

Whittaker, who also won the first fight which took place at UFC 213 last July, however, has shown little interest in once again doing battle with “The Soldier of God”:

“When Rogan asked me in the Octagon the other night, he said rubbermatch and for one, I have never heard of the term rubber match so he caught me off guard there,” Whittaker said on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour. “Second, I had just beat the boogeyman of the division twice back-to-back. I don’t think it’s how the division, UFC conducts business to get the champion to fight one guy, who on both occasions doesn’t make weight for a championship fight, back-to-back-to-back. Like, am I going to fight Yoel Romero forever?”

Aside from the decision, there was a bit of controversy prior to the bout as well given that Romero missed weight and while Whittaker admits that he could’ve taken his money and not fought, he said he had a lot of fans in attendance that he wasn’t going to let down:

“I had told other people that (wouldn’t fight if Yoel missed weight), but I was more trying to get my opponent to think about it and take a little more seriously. I’m a professional in all the things I do, and when I sign the contract and it says 185, I make sure I am 185,” he said.

“I’ll get in bright and early and make sure I am one of the first people on the scales. The thing is, I didn’t need to take the fight and I could have walked way with my purse money and not taken the fight,” explained Robert. “I had a right to do that. But the thing was I had a lot of fans here and Chicago was super pumped to see the main event and a lot of people bought the PPV to watch the rematch between me and Romero. At the end of the day I’m a fighter and I just told myself I would take this fight. Someone was going to get into a fight.”

Who would you like to see Whittaker take on next?

Colby Covington Calls Michael Bisping’s Post-UFC 225 Interview “Mockery To The Sport”

This whole situation came completely out of nowhere.

Shortly after his interim UFC welterweight title win in the co-main event of UFC 225 against Rafael dos Anjos Saturday (June 9, 2018), Colby Covington had an interesting exchange with Michael Bisping.

As a part of the UFC on FOX post-fight show, Bisping took part in an interview with Chaos to get his reaction to defeating RDA and securing a future meeting with undisputed champion Tyron Woodley.

Things took a turn, however, when Covington and Bisping began exchanging insults at one another. Bisping took the heap of the blame and was criticized for antagonizing a fighter who had just won a UFC title.

Even UFC commentator Jon Anik expressed his displeasure with how Bisping conducted himself.

Covington recently made an appearance on MMA Junkie Radio and discussed his incident with Bisping. He called it “a mockery to the sport” and “a joke.” Covington also threatened to “come across that pond and smack him silly and take that other eye out” (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“That’s probably why that fake FOX News is going under and it’s getting transferred to ESPN,” Covington said. “That little one-eyed twerp should have realized what happen the last time he messed with the red, white and blue: The American forefather Dan Henderson left him unconscious.

“So he needs to pipe down and not try to steal my spotlight,” the champ said. “This is my spotlight. Whether he has personal feelings or not, he needs to set that aside. That was my moment. At the end of the day, this isn’t a gimmick. I am raw American steel and twisted sex appeal.”

Yoel Romero’s Manager Announces Planned Lawsuit Against Illinois State Athletic Commission

Things could’ve been a lot different had it not been for the ISAC.

The post Yoel Romero’s Manager Announces Planned Lawsuit Against Illinois State Athletic Commission appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Yoel Romero might have been able to make championship weight for UFC 225 this past weekend (Sat. June 9, 2018) had it not been for the interference of the Illinois State Athletic Commission (ISAC).

Initially Romero was scheduled to challenge UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker for the division’s title. The Cuban weighed in one pound overweight at 186, however, and was given two extra hours to cut the final pound.

45 minutes into the second attempt, however, ISAC director Nancy Illg forced Romero and his team to stop the weight cut. She called the decision an “administrative call” and didn’t feel comfortable making Romero dehydrate himself any further.

When Romero weighed in the second time around, he was still overweight but just .2 pounds. As a result the fight continued as a five round non-title fight. Romero lost via split decision after a tremendous back-and-forth affair.

Because Romero missed weight he forfeited his $50,000 Fight Of The Night bonus to Whittaker.

Both of Romero’s agents, Malki and Abe Kawa, joined The MMA Hour yesterday (Mon. June 11, 2018) to discuss the matter. Malki revealed that he and Romero are preparing a lawsuit against the ISAC (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“We’re gonna sue them,” Kawa said. “I’m gonna send the paperwork soon. It’s going out probably this week.”

Abe Kawa revealed that once he found out early Friday morning (before weigh-ins) that Romero would be granted an extra two hours if his initial attempt was within three pounds of championship weight – the plan all along was to utilize those extra two hours:

“The whole plan was to use those two hours,” Abe Kawa said. “So everything we did from that point going forward in the weight cut was to use those extra two hours slotted to us.”
