Stephen Thompson eyes Darren Till rematch if the rising prospect can get it done at the UFC 228 pay-per-view event where he has his toughest challenge to date.

History

Till got some criticism for this shot that will see him jump in the rankings in order to get a title opportunity against UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.

Thompson knows Till the best out of any fighter out there right now as he was the latest opponent for the rising prospect. This was a fight that some fight fans thought Thompson won but in the end, the judges gave the nod to Till.

Stephen Thompson Eyes

Thompson is in a good spot in his mind as he thinks whether Till wins or loses come fight night, he’s in line for a title shot although he would prefer for it to be against Till. It should be noted that he’s rumored to fight Robbie Lawler in January.

“If that does happen, hopefully that puts me up closer to a (title) fight. That would be the right way to go, but as you know it’s very hard to predict. But I am leaning that way. The needle is leaning towards Till a little bit,” said Stephen (H/T to MMAMania) on the Ariel Helwani MMA Show.

“If he (Till) goes out there and does what I know he can and if he is smart about it. He can win. And that would set me up perfectly, I would think, for another rematch. Of course you got guys above me,” he added. “Colby Covington might get the next shot and you got (Kamaru) Usman moving up the rankings. You got those guys, but I feel like I won that last fight against Till. I think a lot of fights agree with me. If he does win, I would love to have that rematch.”

The UFC 228 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center. The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.

Nicco Montano Was Inspired By Henry Cejudo’s Upset Win At UFC 227

Can Nicco Montano silence her doubters this weekend?

Last month (Sat. August 4, 2018) at UFC 227 one of the biggest upsets in the history of the sport went down.

Henry Cejudo defeated Demetrious Johnson in the co-main event to become the second-ever UFC flyweight champion. It was a moment that shocked a lot of mixed martial arts (MMA) fans, but also inspired fellow fighters.

UFC women’s flyweight champion Nicco Montano explained how she drew inspiration off Cejudo’s big moment (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Absolutely, as I said, it’s not about labels; it’s about heart and will and sacrifices and I’ve made them all,” Montano said.

“It’s not going to me at the end of the fight to see that we’ve been through a battle and then see what the outcome is.”

“Definitely seeing Cejudo, I was there for that fight up close and personal, and you could just see the pace and you could see how much both of those fighters were willing to put in that cage.

“That was a spectacular fight and Cejudo came out victorious. And he was the underdog, so that’s definitely something that’s in my head now.”

Montano could use some inspiration right about now. She’ll be defending her flyweight title this weekend at the UFC 228 pay-per-view (PPV). Montano will be defending against former women’s bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko.

Many are writing off this fight as a guaranteed win for “The Bullet.” She has shared the Octagon with some of the most fierce competitors in the world, and did more than hold her own.

With victories over the likes of Holly Holm and Julianna Pena under her belt, Shevchenko will certainly be a big test for the 4-2 Montano.

Darren Till Is “Done” At Welterweight After A Few More Fights

This makes a possible title win for Darren Till all the more interesting.

Darren Till’s time at welterweight may very well be coming to a close.

The Englishman is closing in on his first UFC title opportunity this weekend. He’ll challenge Tyron Woodley in the main event of UFC 228 on pay-per-view (PPV) in Dallas, Texas. Till is seeking to dethrone “T-Wood” and capture the welterweight title.

It’s no secret, however, that Till has had his fair share of issues with the weight cut to 170 pounds. In his last fight he came in well overweight against Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.

His size alone is argument enough to suggest a jump up in weight as high as 205 pounds. Despite this, Till is still chasing his dream of becoming the UFC’s 170-pound champion. Whether he accomplishes that this weekend or not, he seems pretty confident about what’s next for him.

Speaking to media recently, Till admitted that his time in the welterweight division is limited (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“Only a few more fights at welterweight and I’m done,” Darren Till said. “I’ve said I want to go to middleweight. It’s just… I see a lot of guys and they’re chasing money fights. They’re winning titles and they’re calling either the higher or the lower category or they’re calling for that super fight,” he explained.

“When I take that belt, I want to defend that belt and then I want to go up to middleweight, but that doesn’t mean that I want to go up and challenge the champion. I would like to earn my stripes in that division too. I feel there are a lot of good guys in that division.”

“There’s one guy that I wouldn’t like to fight, Yoel Romero. I’m glad he’s gone up, he’s a f*ckin’ beast,” he said, before bursting into laughter.”

Should Till be defeated this weekend perhaps a jump up to middleweight would be more immediate. It’s hard to believe the Englishman would forfeit the title immediately after winning it.

185 pounds may be a more suitable division for Till weight-wise, however, the competition will be stiff. With rising stars such as Paulo Costa waiting in the wings, there are some intriguing match-ups awaiting Till at middleweight.

Tyron Woodley Aims To Win Four Different UFC Titles

“The Chosen One” has big time history in his sights.

The possibility of winning four world titles intrigues Tyron Woodley.

“The Chosen One” has had a solid reign as 170-pound champion. Woodley has defeated top contenders such as Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, Robbie Lawler, and more.

He is currently preparing to defend his title once again, this time against 25-year-old challenger Darren Till. They’ll headline UFC 228 on pay-per-view (PPV) this weekend (Sat. September 8, 2018) in Dallas, Texas.

Woodley recently spoke to media to promote UFC 228. In their discussion, “T-Wood” discussed possibly making big history in the future. The rumor of dispelling the welterweight championship arose.

In turn, more divisions such as 165 and 175 pounds would be added. Woodley said he’s willing to win titles at 165, 175 and 185 pounds to make history (quotes via MMA Fighting):

“I heard they were thinking about that,” Woodley said. “I don’t know which one I would do – I mean, I could make 165, it wouldn’t be very sexy, but I could make it.

“And obviously 175 would be a little easier to make than 170. I make 175 and I could make 185, too. Those are three different weight classes that I could fight in and be extremely competitive in all of them.”

The 36-year-old isn’t interested in cutting down to 170 pounds much longer. The ability to fight at a higher weight class is beginning to sound more appealing:

“I would love to fight in a different division, you know?” said Woodley. “I walk around at 200 pounds, only having to drop 15 pounds wouldn’t be a bad look for me at all.”
