Colby Covington Predicts Dismal PPV Buy Rate For UFC 228

Colby Covington predicts UFC 228 buy rate.

Interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington has predicted the buy rate for UFC 228: Woodley vs. Till- it’s dismal.

It’s not surprising to see the brash Covington take a shot at the upcoming UFC 228 card. After all, “Chaos” himself believes he holds the “real” welterweight strap. And that the title Tyron Woodley and Darren Till will fight for next weekend (Sept. 8, 2018) is nothing more than a glorified paperweight.

Covington has repeatedly stated that the fans have no interest in watching Woodley fight. The confident wrestler believes that if he was fighting at UFC 228 that the buy rate would far exceed what is expected next weekend.

“It’s short-sighted. That fight’s not going to do 100,000 buys. Mark my words. If it does 100,000 buys, it will barely be over that,” Covington told FloCombat. “If they would have waited a couple of months, it’s going to do a minimum of 500,000 buys.”

Covington may have a slightly inflated self-worth. After all, his co-main event fight at UFC 225 helped produce a PPV buy rate of 250,000 buys. That’s half of Covington’s claim of 500,000 for a potential fight between Woodley and himself.

“Chaos” also believes the UFC purposely paired Woodly and Till on a card with a solid co-main event, as to help drive PPV numbers.

“I don’t know why they wanted to rush it, but unfortunately they needed a main event for that Dallas card ‘cause that women’s fight, no one knows who they are,” Covington said. “No one even knows they’re fighting. I don’t even know what the girls’ names are and I don’t care about that fight. So they needed a main event and everybody else is sucking on their thumbs and not ready to make the UFC and MMA great again.”

”They had to put Tyron out there since he’s been faking injuries and hanging out in Hollywood like a little liberal soy boy.”

The usually outspoken Covington was reluctant to predict a winner in the Woodley-Till fight. However, he was more than happy to talk about who was going to lose. The fans.

“I don’t know who’s going to win but I do know who’s going to lose, and that’s the fans,” Covington said. “They’re really going to lose with that fight. I hope Tyrone [sic] Woodley doesn’t f*ck this up. That’s the money fight. We’ve got a real beef. We used to train at American Top Team and I whooped his *** and he hasn’t been back since ‘cause he knows I’ll whoop his *** again.”

”I hope he doesn’t f*ck this up and f*ck up this money fight but I’ll tell you who loses in all of this and that’s the fans.”

Stephen Thompson: Darren Till Doesn’t Deserve Title Fight With Tyron Woodley

Does Darren Till deserve his UFC 228 title fight?

The post Stephen Thompson: Darren Till Doesn’t Deserve Title Fight With Tyron Woodley appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Stephen Thompson doesn’t think Darren Till deserves his UFC 228 title fight with Tyron Woodley.

This past May, Till took home a controversial unanimous decision win over Thompson. Till missed weight by quite a sizable margin for the welterweight affair. The fight was close, however, when it was all said and done the judges determined Till did enough to earn the nod in front of his native Liverpool crowd.

As a result, Till was granted a UFC welterweight title opportunity against Tyron Woodley. They will main event UFC 228 on pay-per-view (PPV) next weekend. Due to Till missing weight in his last fight, however, much has been made about his title opportunity.

Thompson joined Submission Radio recently and offered his thoughts on the matter. “Wonderboy” divulged that he doesn’t think Till is deserving of the title opportunity:

“Do I think he deserves it? No. I really don’t. This is a professional sport, and making weight is part of the job. You agreed to make the weight. I mean, it’s like the Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero.

“You know, if you don’t make weight, you don’t fight for the title. I think it should be the same. If you don’t make weight, you don’t move up the rankings. It’s part of the job. You signed a contract to be that way, and my god, you should make it, you should make it.

“And he was bragging about it weeks before the fight how he’s this massive 170(-pounder), how the UFC shouldn’t be allowing the fight. Which made him look even worse because he didn’t make weight. And that was 171.”

Thompson doesn’t believe Till is able to make the title fight limit of 170 pounds because of it. He believes the Liverpudlian pushes the limits because there are no consequences for it:

“I mean, how is he gonna make 170? So yeah, man, I would definitely be questioning that as a fan, but also as the UFC. So, for him to be actually fighting for the title, man… and they’re wondering why people aren’t making weight.

“Because there’s no consequences. Yeah sure, he wasn’t getting paid much for that fight, so of course he won’t make weight. Give 20 or 30 percent or whatever it was to move up the rankings.”

Thompson admitted it was worth it to get it a big fight because there is little punishment for missing weight:

“So now, I mean, he’s probably getting crazy money to fight now, so I bet it was worth it. And the UFC is like, why aren’t these guys making weight? Because there’s no consequences. You know, no real consequences.

“A lot of people will give them 30 percent and move up the rankings cause their next fight will be more money. It’s just a sacrifice at the moment for a bigger gain later on.”

Thompson’s being targeted for a big welterweight match-up next year. The UFC is reportedly aiming to pair up “Wonderboy” with Robbie Lawler in January. A victory over “The Ruthless One” would certainly be enough to get Thompson back into the title conversation.

Tyron Woodley Offers Bold Prediction For Darren Till Fight

Woodley gave some betting odds for his UFC 228 fight.

Tyron Woodley offers bold prediction for his next title defense against a rising prospect at the UFC 228 pay-per-view event. The UFC champ will take on Darren Till in the main event of this show.

Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington was supposed to be the next in line for Woodley and the title. However, at the time of the UFC needing the main event for UFC 228, things changed. Covington had recently undergone surgery to correct a nasal issue. Thus, UFC decided they would strip Covington of the belt after he declined a fight at UFC 228.

Title Defenses

Woodley suffered a partial labrum tear early in his last title defense over top contender Demian Maia, which he won by decision. Woodley has been a fighting champion as he has defended it twice in 2017. He won decisions over Stephen Thompson and Maia. This tied with three other fighters for the most active 2017 schedule by a UFC champion.

Tyron Woodley Offers

Woodley was recently interviewed by TMZ Sports where he was asked to give some betting advice to those fight fans who plan on picking a winner. The UFC champion noted that fans should expect him to win by KO in the second or third round.

“You know that’s kind of hard to say. I think he’s going to be cautious in the first round because I usually start out like a bad out of hell. He’s going to try to weather the storm but probably second or third round. That’s what I would say if you want to win some money.”

The UFC 228 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center.

The main card will air on pay-per-view at 10 p.m. ET. The preliminary card will air on FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET and the promotion’s streaming service, UFC Fight Pass.
