Six reasons why Dana White dislikes Tyron Woodley.

Welterweight champion Tyron Woodley successfully defended his title against Darren Till at UFC 228. The “Chosen One” submitted the hyped younger fighter in the second round, in so doing becoming the current longest-reigning UFC champion.

Woodley first captured the welterweight strap at UFC 201 when he bum-rushed then-champion Robbie Lawler with his patented and thunderous right hand. Since winning the title, the “Chosen One” has defended it four times.

However, not all is good with the UFC’s longest-reigning current champ. Woodley has drawn much criticism from UFC President Dana White. As a result, MMA fans have developed a mostly derogatory relationship with Woodley due to White’s attitude. For the most part, MMA fans go as Dana goes.

That being said, the UFC has a champion in Woodley who is active and doesn’t run from fights. So why does it seem that White flat-out dislikes Woodley? Only White knows the truth behind the beef, but we here at LowkickMMA are pragmatic, so we have compiled a list:

Check out our six reasons why Dana White dislikes Woodley.

He Knows His Worth

Perhaps the reason why UFC President Dana White doesn’t seem to like Woodley is that the “Chosen One” knows his worth.

It’s no secret Dana gets along better with the fighters he can rein in and bully to a certain degree. Although very much a company man, Woodley isn’t that guy that White can manipulate. Quite the opposite is true, as a matter of fact.

Woodley is an active champion, defending his title whenever he is healthy and against all comers. That being said, Woodley has passion projects he has been working on these last couple years, and he won’t let anything get in the way of.

Woodley is 36 years old, however, so his fighting career is most likely winding down. Perhaps he will find success as a rapper or more likely as an actor. Either way, Woodley knows his worth, whatever it is.

Jimmie Rivera Sets Sights On Two Big Names

Rivera is looking to get fight against a title contender next.

Jimmie Rivera sets sights on two big names as he continues to get back to his hot streak of consecutive wins.

Former WSOF champion Marlon Moraes was able to finish Rivera by strikes after landing a huge head kick to win the bantamweight headliner at UFC Utica.

This marked Rivera’s first loss since November of 2008 and now holds a pro-MMA record of 21-2. Coming into this headliner, he was on a 20 fight winning streak, but that has been snapped.

Rivera got back to his winning ways when he picked up a decision win over former title contender John Dodson on the main card of the UFC 228 pay-per-view event at American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas.

Now, he has made it clear that he wants a fight against either former UFC bantamweight champions Dominick Cruz or Cody Garbrandt.

“Obviously my ideal is always to fight T.J. (Dillashaw for the title),” Rivera told MMAJunkie recently. “I know he might be in the works for a fight, or the Henry (Cejudo) fight might happen. Other than that, Cruz.

He said he was hurt last time; he ducked me. Get in there. I beat (Urijah) Faber and I would love to beat someone else from Team Alpha Male. I would love to fight Cody Garbrandt. I just want to keep moving forward.”

Garbrandt and Cruz currently don’t have their next fights lined up so it’s possible that the UFC can make one of these fights happen.

Garbrandt is coming off a KO loss to UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw at the UFC 227 pay-per-view event. On the flip side, Cruz was expected to return to action last December. However, that was not meant to be as he was forced out of a UFC 219 showdown with Rivera due to a broken arm.

With Tyron Woodley’s title defense against Darren Till in the rear-view, “T-Wood” can move on to a bigger and more personal feud.

Woodley is believed to be fighting Colby Covington for the welterweight title next. The pair are former teammates who have built up a ton of animosity towards one another in the past several months.

Recently, Woodley’s training partner from Roufusport Training Center, Ben Askren, took to Twitter to offer some comments on Covington.

The recently retired mixed martial artist said the following about Covington, who he described as “a poor man’s version of me”:

“Cmon is a poor mans version of me. Couldn’t accomplish in wrestling, got choked out by subpar Wallrey Alves and trash talking sounds like his IQ is 85(which it may be although I can’t confirm)!”

Shortly after his victory, Covington called out Woodley to fight at the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV). The Madison Square Garden card is currently without a main event. Woodley said that he believes he could make that date and called Covington an embarrassment to the sport.

Covington has yet to respond to Askren’s remarks on Twitter.

Nicco Montano Claims Valentina Shevchenko Is Scared To Fight Her

Nicco Montano has heard enough of Valentina Shevchenko’s criticism after UFC 228.

Valentina Shevchenko has been very vocal about the events that transpired at UFC 228 fight week.

Initially, Shevchenko was expected to co-main event the pay-per-view (PPV) opposite Nicco Montano for the UFC women’s flyweight title. Unfortunately, Montano suffered complications during her weight-cut and was subsequently hospitalized.

She was deemed medically unfit to compete and removed from the card. Shevchenko, however, wasn’t buying it. She believes Montano was searching for a way out of their fight all along.

Shevchenko even foreshadowed these events happening with some comments during media day. “The Bullet,” said she’ll believe the fight is happening when Montano actually makes the walk to the Octagon. As we all know, that walk never happened.

Montano has finally offered her side of the story in a recent interview on “The MMA Hour.” She said that she believes Shevchenko was hoping for something like this because she’s scared to fight someone like her (quotes via MMA Mania):

“I think she lives in la la land for a reason. I think she really wanted that to happen, unless she’s another Mrs. Cleo and has a (psychic) job, because she’s good at that.

“But I think she was hoping for it. I think she’s a little scared to fight somebody like me. I think deep down she was hoping this fight was not going to happen so that she could have more ammo to be a cyber bully and she wouldn’t have to face me in the Octagon.”

As for Shevchenko, she’ll now be fighting for the 125-pound title after Montano was stripped.

UFC President Dana White teased he already has a name in mind for the match-up. Early speculation suggests that name is former 115-pound champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
