Back at UFC 229, a huge brawl erupted between the teams of Conor McGregor and UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

It happened just seconds after Nurmagomedov submitted the Irishman in the fourth round of their pay-per-view (PPV) headliner, successfully retaining his 155-pound championship for the first time. Afterward, Nurmagomedov alleges that McGregor cornerman, Dillon Danis, yelled a racial slur at him, prompting the champion to jump the Octagon and attack the jiu-jitsu ace.

While Nurmagomedov chased down Danis, a pair of “The Eagle’s” teammates jumped into the Octagon and attacked McGregor. Although McGregor was hit, he did manage to nail Zubaira Tukhugov with a left hand. Now, new footage has emerged of McGregor connecting on the left hand against Tukhugov. The shot appears to knock Tukhugov off balance a bit.

Check out the new footage here:

McGregor recently returned to mixed martial arts (MMA) competition for the first time since this fight. He headlined the UFC 246 PPV last month against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at welterweight, who he finished in just 40 seconds. As for Nurmagomedov, he retained his title with a submission win over Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi last year. “The Eagle” now prepares for another title defense, this time in the UFC 249 PPV main event against Tony Ferguson.

The action goes down on April 18 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It will be interesting to see who McGregor fights upon his return to action.

It’s no secret that Conor McGregor wants to run things back with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov down the line.

The pair first fought in October of 2018 when Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor in the fourth round of their UFC 229 main event meeting in Las Vegas. It remains the last fight McGregor competed in, until this weekend (Sat. January 18, 2020) when he returns to take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at welterweight.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani of ESPN in a lengthy sit-down interview, McGregor opened up about his poor preparation for the fight with Nurmagomedov. First off, the Irishman admits to drinking just days before being locked in the Octagon with, arguably, the most dominant champion the UFC has ever seen. (H/T MMA Fighting)

“A couple months ago, three, four months ago,” McGregor said. “I was drinking on bleeding fight week with the last one.”

McGregor also admits to flying in opponents from all over the world, bringing them to his gym, having a full-on fight with no headgear, winning, and going out to celebrate, not returning to the gym for several days.

“I had this venom in me or something,” McGregor said. “I don’t know why. I had people holed up in a hotel from that part of the world. I would ring [them] and arrange a fight. So they’d come from the hotel down to the gym and have a full-blown fight, no head guard. A fight. I’d win.

“We’d have a war and I’d win, knock the guy out and then I’d go off and celebrate, and then I’d come back in three days.”

Now, those dark days seem to be behind McGregor, who is in a much more structured environment than he previously was and is looking to make a statement against Cerrone this weekend.

“I’m not going back there,” McGregor said. “I’m in a great spot now. That’s it. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve been man enough to admit them and correct them, and that’s what I’ve done. I might not be perfect, but with a good sleep and a full belly, I’m damn close.”

After submitting McGregor in the fourth round to retain his lightweight title, Nurmagomedov jumped the Octagon to attack McGregor cornerman Dillon Danis, who Khabib alleges yelled a racial slur at him. All parties involved were punished accordingly, but in regards to the brawl, Danis tells “The Schmo” Khabib didn’t connect on him at all. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“No, he didn’t connect,” Danis said. “You know what’s funny, when he jumped over the thing, and he had his feet and his arms up, so like, he didn’t really know what he was going to hit me with. So I was like, am I going to get kicked right now or punched? I kind of just blocked then I hit him with a right hand, and then I remember him coming forward, and I was uppercutting him, and then he was just trying to run away, and I was trying to grab his head.

“It was just a whole mayhem and then everybody was getting punched, and cops were going all over the place, and … he didn’t touch me at all. I remember hitting him with a good amount of shots, and then I just remember him trying to pull away and run away from me, and I was trying to cup his head and uppercut him. But it was mayhem. Everything happened so fast.”

Nurmagomedov will make his return to the Octagon when he puts his 155-pound title up for grabs against Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 in April. As for Danis, he’ll take on Kegan Gennrich at Bellator 238 on January 25 for this third MMA fight.

Conor McGregor certainly wants a shot at a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“The Notorious” took to Twitter earlier today (Sat. July 27, 2019) and went on a rant regarding their initial meeting at UFC 229 this past October. McGregor admitted to throwing an illegal knee to Nurmagomedov’s head while on the ground and getting away with it “Scotty”:

“You check on the fighter that was illegally kneed to the head on the ground. Not get into a game of trying to prove the knee was legal with the fighter who committed the assault.”

“Herb should have checked on Khabibs eyeball after I kneed it full wack from bottom as well. I used the mount defense leg as a spring board right into the eye socket. But I was to crafty with it and got away Scotty. I call it the big poppa pump into the eyeball. And your brothers”

McGregor then ripped into Khabib one more time, calling him a “pu**y fighter”:

“Herb my man he’s tryna sniff my jock strap here it’s fucking round 1. Stand this shit up. Pussy fighter. Panic panic. We all saw you panic shit yourself on the back of that bus. Riddled in panic. I might actually be the Riddler instead.”

Nurmagomedov will unify his lightweight title with interim champion Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 242 on pay-per-view (PPV). The action goes down from the du Arena in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Saturday, September 7.

As for McGregor, his return to the Octagon remains in question. It has been reported that the Irishman plans on fighting again, and Dana White has gone as far as saying he believes McGregor will fight before the year is up. As for who his opponent will be, that remains to be seen, but a rematch with Khabib isn’t out of the question.
