UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor from Las Vegas is being billed as the biggest fight in UFC history.
It just may be, as the anticipated October 6 fight is predicted to potentially bring in two million buys. The bout is getting an insane amount of heat due to the heated backstory between the two elite lightweights. McGregor was arrested on assault charges for attack Khabib’s bus before April’s UFC 223. “The Notorious” reached a plea deal in a Brooklyn courtroom last month.
The fight was soon announced thereafter, setting the stage for the biggest return in UFC history. McGregor has been out of action for nearly two years. He was stripped of the lightweight title due to inactivity and will attempt to regain the belt he never lost.

Former UFC lightweight title challenger Gray Maynard will return at UFC 229.
Maynard was previously on a four-fight losing streak. He has now won two of his last three fights. In his last outing, Maynard took home a unanimous decision win over Teruto Ishihara in July of last year.
He burst onto the UFC scene back in 2007 when he was a part of The Ultimate Fighter Season 5 (TUF 5). Maynard made a name for himself after back-to-back classic lightweight title fights with Frankie Edgar.
Maynard will return to the Octagon on October 6, 2018 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC 229. He will take on fellow UFC veteran Nik Lentz, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Lentz has gone 2-2 in his last four fights. He last competed at UFC Fight Night 131 in June against David Teymur. Lentz lost the fight via unanimous decision. This is essentially a must win fight for both men.

The Warning
While it’s long since been forgotten about, in the early days of McGregor’s rise to stardom in the UFC’s featherweight division, he and Nurmagomedov appeared to have a cordial relationship. They even took a picture together backstage after one of the Irishman’s victories in 2014.
In fact, at one stage McGregor even rightly suggested that Nurmagomedov would one day become the champion of the 155-pound division.
However, McGregor defeated Jose Aldo to win the 145-pound title the following year and began to signal an interest in lightweight. Nurmagomedov was quick to warn him that would be a bad idea based on his presence.
“I think Conor is a good fighter but if he thinks he can come to the lightweight division and have a chance of beating me he is delusional,” Nurmagomedov told arabsmma.com.
“I’m the worst match-up for him in the UFC. This is why he is trying to move up and fight RDA [Rafael dos Anjos] now. He wants to avoid fighting me. If he comes to lightweight and fights me I will give him a great welcome.”
“Four minutes, I smash him – no problem.” Nurmagomedov declared in a seperate interview.

Tony Ferguson teases that there’s a chance he could make his UFC return earlier than what fight fans were expecting. The former interim UFC lightweight champ is eyeing that comeback fight at the UFC 229 PPV event.
Preparation
Ferguson was slated to take on top contender Khabib Nurmagomedov at the UFC 223 pay-per-view event at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. This was when it was revealed that Ferguson suffered an injury and had to pull out of the fight.
UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway stepped up on six days notice to accept this fight. He saved this event by competing against Nurmagomedov. However, Holloway was pulled, and Al Iquantia stepped in.
The reason that Ferguson was unable to make this fight happen and was forced out of the main event is due to the fact that he tore his LCL. As a result, he had to undergo the knife to correct the injury.
This leads us to Ferguson taking to his official Twitter account where he teased fans that he could fight at UFC 229. Obviously due to the main event – Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor for the lightweight title – it would make sense to have Ferguson fight on the card. It should be noted that he didn’t mention an opponent for this show.
