Not so fast. A fight was announced for UFC 230 involving Yoel Romero vs. Paulo Costa but a doctor has informed Romero that he will need much more time to heal before his next fight.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on the Helwani’s MMA Show, Romero stated that his manager has informed him that UFC president Dana White said he can fight Costa just not right now.

“Maybe four or five months,” Romero said of his return. “The doctor said, ‘Yoel needs more time.’ You know me. If you give me somebody, I take it. But you need to be smart. When the doctor says, ‘You’re ready,’ you can go. I’m waiting.”

Romero (13-3) has missed weight for his last two middleweight bouts. Because of that many fans and prognosticators were under the impression that the Cuban star would be forced to move up in weight. However, Romero nixed that idea altogether.

“I talked with the UFC and said I’m not going to go up,” Romero said. “Maybe in the future. People need to see the belt on my body. When I take the belt, maybe I’ll go up and fight a superfight [against another champion].”

Romero told Helwani that he would like to return to the octagon by years end. He also revealed that he has just resigned a new eight-fight deal with the UFC so he sees no reason to rush his return.

“My eye is not ready,” Romero said. “I want to fight, but it is what it is. The doctor said, ‘Yoel cannot fight.’ I want to fight on this card, this show. Anytime you have an opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden in New York, you’re making history. But I need to wait.”

Jon Jones Makes Interesting Claim About USADA Status

Jon Jones’ latest comments about his dealings with USADA

The post Jon Jones Makes Interesting Claim About USADA Status appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Jon Jones makes an interesting claim about how things are going for him while dealing with USADA and their drug testing program.

Jones failed an in-competition drug test for Turinabol at UFC 214 after he beat Daniel Cormier by third-round TKO in the main event in July of 2017 in Anaheim, California. This allowed him to regain the title. However, as a result of that failed drug test, he was stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title. He was also removed from the official UFC rankings.

If you recall, back in February, it was revealed that the CSAC revoked Jones’ MMA license and fined him $205,000. Many considered that this hearing that would determine Jones’ fate as a result of this drug test. Now, he’s waiting to hear the decision made by USADA.

Reality Of Situation

The former UFC light heavyweight champion has stayed quiet about the topic while letting his manager do all of the interviews. However, he recently commented on the ongoing situation where he clarified what a fan said. Which was if he was still in the testing pool.

Fans went on the USADA testing database last week where they noticed Jones hadn’t been tested at all in 2018. However, that all changed once a single test appeared in Q3 of 2018 for Jones. This led to speculation from fans that he removed himself from the pool like Brock Lesnar has done in the past.

By looking at the USADA rulebook, it states that anyone removing themselves from the program has to spend six months being tested before returning to the cage. Jones made it known on Twitter that he never left the testing pool.

Jon Jones Makes Comment

“Glad you enjoyed the few seconds of training footage I shared the other day. Just wanted to let everyone know, I never left the testing pool, not even for a day.”

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman 2 Confirmed For UFC 230

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman II is finally official.

Luke Rockhold vs. Chris Weidman is finally a go.

The top-level fight was previously discussed for November 3’s UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event from New York City. Concerns remained, however, due to Rockhold’s supposed hold-up due to concerns over his contract.

The former UFC middleweight champ has apparently since alleviated those concerns. Rockhold was apparently discussing his deal with the UFC yesterday and worked it out. The fight was finalized today according to MMA Weekly and MMA News’ Damon Martin. Weidman then confirmed he had signed up for the bout on social media this afternoon:

The fight is a rematch of Rockhold and Weidman’s first match-up at 2015’s UFC 194. Rockhold won the fight via fourth-round TKO to win the title from Weidman.

His victory ended Weidman’s over two-year run as 185-pound champion. Both men have seen better days in the time since as well.

Rockhold lost the title to Michael Bisping in his very next fight. The loss was arguably the most jaw-dropping title upset in UFC history. He returned with a victory over David Branch almost 15 months later. Rockhold then lost an interim title bid to Yoel Romero via brutal knockout this February.

Weidman has undergone a similar rollercoaster, losing three straight to Rockhold, Romero, and Gegard Mousasi. The onetime legend killer returned with an emotional submission win over title contender Kelvin Gastelum last July. But Weidman has been out of action ever since due to a series of concerning hand surgeries. The injuries, along with his lengthy history of surgeries, prompted the UFC to grant Gastelum the title fight over him.

He’ll look to force his name back into the title discussion by avenging his loss to Rockhold in his native New York this November.

Jon Jones Teases Comeback Unlike ‘Anything You’ve Ever Seen’

Jon Jones is hinting at an absolutely massive UFC return.

It’s that time of year when Jon Jones teases his latest MMA comeback.

The troubled MMA legend has been on the sidelines since last August. Jones tested positive for anabolic steroid Turinabol prior to his UFC 214 win over Daniel Cormier. The failure was his second such infraction under the UFC’s current anti-doping program.

Precious little information about his case with USADA has been revealed since. Rumors have been swirling he will return soon, however, due to him getting off with a one-year suspension. Jones is fueling those rumors with a passion.

“Bones” recently tweeted about his journey. He promised fans they have never seen what is coming next:

Every part of the journey matters. Triumphs and setbacks all combine to make the climb what it is supposed to be. My feet are dug in and I have clear motivation as to what I’m going after and why. I promise you’ve never seen anything like what’s coming

Jones has been rumored to be returning to face longtime rival Alexander Gustafsson at November’s UFC 230. None of that has been confirmed due to his ongoing issues with USADA.

Jones is still considered to be MMA’s greatest fighter by many. He remains the only man to defeat current UFC double champion Daniel Cormier.
