Finally, in our UFC 244 main event, Jorge Masvidal takes on Nate Diaz at welterweight for the Baddest Mother F*cker Championship.

Round 1:

Diaz starting off fast with a front kick to the body. Masvidal with a leg kick and a nice combination, clinching up now. Masvidal lands a big combination and drops Diaz, catching him with a kick on the way down. Masvidal is pouring on ground-and-pound, and Diaz is busted open bad. Masvidal playing with Diaz’s legs. Diaz inviting Masvidal to the ground but won’t he won’t.

Masvidal lets Diaz stand. A hard kick to the body from Masvidal and Diaz catches it, going for the takedown. A nice inside elbow from Masvidal lands and they separate. A nice combination lands for Diaz and they clinch up again. They separate and Masvidal with another nice combination. Dia with another nice left hand. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Masvidal is backing away from Diaz’s pressure, tagging up Diaz’s cut. A nice kick to the body lands for Masvidal. Lead hook connects for Masvidal and he follows up with a body kick. A right hand down the pipe connects for Masvidal. A big overhand from Masvidal rocks Diaz.

He drops and Masvidal is working ground-and-pound again from holding Diaz’s legs. Another big shot from Masvidal and they clinch up again. A nice knee to the body and some shots connect from Masvidal. Masvidal again clinches up with Diaz and takes him down. A scramble from Diaz and he locks up a Masvidal leg. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

Diaz coming forward to start the round, putting together a few shots. Masvidal lands a jab backing away. Another big overhand from Masvidal connects. Diaz now putting together a big combination. Masvidal enters a clinch with a left hand. Masvidal with another straight right hand. Diaz firing back now, and both men are exchanging heavy leather.

Masvidal connects with another overhand and Diaz keeps him at bay with a kick to the body. Diaz with a knee to the body and he presses Masvidal against the cage. Diaz tries to scramble and now and has Masvidal in his guard. Masvidal pouring on strong ground-and-pound and the round ends.

Official Result: Jorge Masvidal def. Nate Diaz via R3 TKO (Doctor Stoppage, 5:00)

In the co-main event of UFC 244, Darren Till makes his middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum.

Round 1:

The pair clinch up and Gastelum gets knees to the body. Leg kick from Till lands. Another clinch up from Gastelum, but Till has the dominant position. Till finally separates and gets another leg kick. More leg kicks from Till and both men are respecting the other’s power. A nice left-hand lands for Till. The round comes to an end.

Round 2:

Both men exchange leg kicks to start the round. Till sneaks some shots in and then backs up. Another leg kick from Till, who follows up with a left hand. An eye poke from Gastelum temporarily stops the action. A good couple of leg kicks land for Till. A big leg kick from Gastelum in response. Another leg kick from Gastelum lands. Till stuffs a Gastelum takedown attempt. They exchange leg kicks again. The round comes to an end.

Round 3:

A bunch of leg kicks from Till to open the round. A spinning forward elbow from Till is just blocked. Till catches a kick, takes Gastelum down, but lets him back up. Gastelum just missing on a couple of big hooks. Gastelum gets in a nice body shot. Gastelum goes for a takedown, gets it, tries to take the back, but Till is to his feet. Gastelum with a nice takedown but Till gets right back to his feet. The fight comes to an end.

Official Result: Darren Till def. Kelvin Gastelum via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 30-27)

Stephen Thompson returned to the win column with a technical masterclass over Vicente Luque in their welterweight encounter at UFC 244 on Saturday night.

The first round was evenly-contested with Luque seeming to have hurt “Wonderboy” at one point. However, the former welterweight title challenger stepped it up in the second round with more aggressiveness as he started landing more on Luque.

He would go on to drop Luque before doing it multiple times in the final round. “The Silent Assassin” was bloodied as he shelled up in the third round. He was not out of it though as he kept fighting back.

However, Thompson was too good for him in the end as he eventually earned a unanimous decision victory.

Next up on the UFC 244 main card is a highly-anticipated welterweight contest between Stephen Thompson and Vicente Luque.

Round 1: Luque starts off exclusively with leg kicks. Luque catches Thompson with some punches but doesn’t hurt him. Thompson continues to maintain distance but is starting to become more active with his punches. Luque tags Thompson but the latter seems to be fine. Luque is landing the cleaner strikes overall and may have edged the first round.

Round 2: More of the same in the second round. Thompson is landing more strikes this time. Luque returns with a right hand. Thompson drops Luque with a side kick. Thompson starts to unload on Luque who seems stunned and is cut open. Luque is fighting back and landing counters, however. This is clearly Thompson’s round as he continues to land and pressure Luque. Luque blocks a spinning wheel kick. The two end the round with a smile and high-five each other.

Round 3: Luque looks to be more aggressive now. Thompson drops Luque with another side kick and then drops him once again with a punch. He lets Luque up and starts to jab him up. He stuns Luque again who is starting to shell up.

Official result: Stephen Thompson defeats Vicente Luque via unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-27).
