A featherweight bout between Jeremy Stephens and Calvin Kattar is reportedly targeted for UFC 249.

The duo were initially slated to compete against each other at UFC 248 on March 7 in Las Vegas, Nevada. However, Stephens recently had to withdraw due to an undisclosed injury.

It looks like it was only a minor one, though, as the bout will be rescheduled for UFC 249 which takes place April 18 in Brooklyn, New York. That’s according to multiple sources close to MMA Fighting who claim that timing, not an injury, was the major issue with the fight happening in March. The pair have instead verbally agreed to compete in April.

The bout was never made official by the UFC but an announcement should be expected soon.

Stephens is without a win in his last four outings. He suffered a TKO defeat to Jose Aldo before getting outpointed by Zabit Magomedsharipov earlier this year.

He then fought a no contest with Yair Rodriguez due to receiving an eye poke before losing the subsequent rematch via unanimous decision. A win over Kattar would get him right back on track.

As for Kattar, the New England native saw his two-fight winning streak snapped after losing a unanimous decision to Magomedsharipov back in November. He can get back on track as well with a win against a big-name opponent in Stephens.

UFC 249 will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

What do you think of the fight being booked for UFC 249?

Rose Namajunas is ready to return to the Octagon, and she’ll do so by seeking a bit of redemption in the process.

ESPN is reporting that Namajunas will rematch Jessica Andrade at UFC 249 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 18. The card is expected to be headlined by a lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson. The Namajunas vs. Andrade bout will be a rematch from their initial meeting last May.

Namajunas was defending her then-strawweight title, seemingly winning the contest on the scorecards with her superior striking performance, before being knocked out by a freak slam takedown from Andrade in the second round. That was the last bout Namajunas would compete in, while Andrade went on to attempt a title defense against Weili Zhang in China the following August.

Unfortunately for the Brazilian, Zhang finished her in the first round of their matchup in under a minute to become the UFC’s first-ever Chinese champion in history. Now, they’ll run things back on what is expected to be one of the most anticipated PPV events of the year.

What do you expect from the rematch between Namajunas and Andrade in April?

Once again, the UFC has booked Khabib Nurmagomedov to face off against Tony Ferguson. This time, however, “The Eagle” will be putting up his lightweight crown for grabs.

This is the fifth time the Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion has booked this contest, with each man pulling out due to injury twice before. Now, the MMA community is hoping the fifth time will be the charm. All except Conor McGregor that is, who says he’s ready to jump in and replace any potentially injured party in the UFC 249 main event from Brooklyn on April 18. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Likely something will happen there, so I’ll be ready to slide in for that belt,” McGregor said in an interview with The MacLife. “So I’ll just have a good solid camp at 170 with no weight cut, a good fight. I know Donald’s a good fighter. [He has] great records. Most knockdowns, most head kicks, most fights, most rounds.

“He’s got a lot of UFC records under his belt. So I’ll get a great camp, a great fight, and then it’ll take me into the year. I’m looking at this as a season. This was the beginning of the season. Donald was the first one that I agreed to have a bout with, and here we are.”

First, McGregor will have to get through his own foe, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, who he faces in the main event of UFC 246 on January 18. The pay-per-view (PPV) takes place from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although the contest is taking place at welterweight, UFC president Dana White has suggested McGregor is next in line for the lightweight title with a win over Cerrone.

What do you think about McGregor’s willingness to step in and replace Nurmagomedov or Ferguson at UFC 249?
