Francis Ngannou could be stuck waiting for a fight once again.

Ngannou knocked out Jairzinho Rozenstruik in emphatic fashion on the UFC 249 main card last night as he required just 20 seconds to earn the victory. It made it four straight first-round finishes for “The Predator” who is undoubtedly next in line for a heavyweight title shot.

The problem is when current champion Stipe Miocic will defend his title next. Miocic is expected to face Daniel Cormier in a trilogy fight later this year. However, he has also stated that he won’t fight unless he has a proper training camp amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

That makes things uncertain when it comes to Ngannou’s next fight.

“Honestly, I don’t know what is up next,” Ngannou said in the post-fight press conference (via MMA Junkie). “I think I’m going to let my manager talk with the UFC and see how it goes and see what they say. It’s very confusing, because right now, yes, we know Stipe is going to fight ‘DC.’”

Until last night, Ngannou struggled to land a fight with his last outing being his first-round knockout of Junior dos Santos back in July.

And even if Miocic ends up fighting Cormier later this year, Ngannou envisions it being another possible nine months up to a year without a fight which wouldn’t be ideal.

“The question is: When?” Ngannou added when asked of his return fight. “This is May – the beginning of May. We don’t know when. I have to wait for that fight and expect that the winner doesn’t get an injury or get hurt. Then, he’ll go take some rest, take vacation, and come back after two or three months. Then, he’ll go to training camp.

“I’ll end up with maybe nine months or one year again, this time. It’s something I didn’t like at all. I don’t want to be in that space again.”

Hopefully for everyone’s case, we get to see Miocic vs. Cormier III soon.

Do you think Ngannou will be stuck waiting again?

It looks like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson’s rivalry will be taking a backseat for the moment.

The dream fight between the pair will no longer be taking place for the foreseeable future following Justin Gaethje’s fifth-round TKO win over Ferguson in the UFC 249 headliner last night. As a result, Gaethje became interim lightweight champion and will now go on to face Nurmagomedov later this year.

Nurmagomedov appeared shocked more than anyone else — at least going by his initial reaction to the fight’s conclusion — before he congratulated Gaethje soon after. And although his rivalry with Ferguson did get heated at times, he sent out a message of support to his old foe.

“Whatever happened is in the past,” Nurmagomedov tweeted on Sunday. “Heads up Tony, I hope everything is good with you and your family. When your son grow up, he’ll be proud with you. @TonyFergusonXT”

It isn’t the end of the world when it comes to seeing a Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson matchup. After all, even just one win could see “El Cucuy” enter title contention again.

However, given that the fight has failed to come to fruition five times while Conor McGregor has also been campaigning for a rematch with Nurmagomedov, the chances of it happening appear more slim than before.

What do you make of Nurmagomedov’s message for Ferguson?

Henry Cejudo is serious about retirement.

After defending his bantamweight title against Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 249 last night, Cejudo shocked the world by announcing his retirement.

Of course, retirement is never final with most mixed martial arts fighters who hang up their gloves only to return later on. And while money could play a factor, Cejudo appears to be serious about it as he feels he has nothing more to accomplish.

“He [Dana White] knows the number, but let all these other bantamweights kill each other,” Cejudo said at the post-fight press conference (via MMA Fighting). “Let them have fun, if they’re complaining that I’m picking fights.

“You can say whatever the hell you guys want, but I’ve done everything, and I do feel like I should be part of Mt. Rushmore when it comes to combat sports. I do feel like I’m the greatest combat athlete of all time with what I’ve accomplished.”

Cejudo went on to reveal that he had been considering retirement ever since the free time he experienced following his shoulder surgery last year.

And he sees no better time to experience that freedom even more than by leaving the sport on top.

“Man, I love freedom,” he added. “You saw me at a lot of UFC events. I enjoy that stuff. Since I was 11 years old, I probably have about 600 competitions of wrestling matches in my life. That’s all I’ve ever done. I don’t have kids – finally got a girl now. But I want to step into that new chapter of my life. I’ve been extremely selfish, rightfully so, to obtain what I’ve obtained.

“I want to leave on top. I did it in wrestling, and now I want to do it in the sport of MMA. I want to remain king forever.”

Do you think Cejudo will stay retired?
