Former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira is in the beginning stages of coming to terms with the jaws of defeat following UFC 275.

Teixeira looked on his way to victory in a back-and-forth battle against Ji?í Procházka in the UFC 275 headliner last weekend. But he was caught in a rear-naked choke with 28 seconds left in the fight to relinquish his title.

After what has been dubbed by many as one of the greatest light heavyweight title fights in UFC history, many fans and pundits wouldn’t mind seeing Teixeira and Procházka run it back as soon as possible.

During a post-fight interview with Combate, Teixeira reflected on his performance and hinted at what he wants next.

“I’m a guy that I’m grateful for in life,” Teixeira said. “I’m grateful for everything I have, for everything I’ve done, I’m a guy that what comes to me I have to accept with joy and gratitude, but it’s hard to swallow a defeat like that. I wanted an immediate rematch. I am not injured, I have these cuts here, but in three weeks I will be ready to train, because I cut my foot and the doctor said that in three weeks I have to remove the stitches in my toes, but nothing is broken.

“I’m not feeling anything painful, just muscle. In three weeks, I will be training again. I wanted that immediate rematch. I think I deserve this rematch for what I put in there. He deserves this rematch because it was a victory that came out there “Pá”, who took it, but you saw that he wasn’t cool, he wasn’t so happy, he kept saying that his performance was not good, so let’s go. Yours wasn’t good, mine wasn’t either. Let’s go back now.

“We already know each other and the two have the same samurai mentality. And let’s go again, man, let’s get this out there ASAP. Dana White has to make this fight happen. It was one of the best fights in recent times and we will do it again. We’ll do it again, that’s what I want.”

Procházka seems content facing either Blachowicz or Teixeira for his first title defense. Meanwhile, UFC president Dana White hasn’t confirmed who will get the nod for a shot at the new champion Procházka.

If he were to earn the win at UFC 275, Teixeira promised Blachowicz the next shot at the belt after their clash at UFC 267. But now that the shoe is on the other foot, he feels an immediate rematch between himself and Procházka is the fight to make after their gritty war.

Do you want to see Glover Teixeira and Ji?í Procházka run it back next?

UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has provided his live reaction to last weekend’s UFC 275 card in Singapore – as well as sharing his thoughts on a “violent” knockout loss suffered by Joanna Jedrzejczyk in her spinning back-fist finish defeat against fellow former champion, Zhang Weili.

Adesanya, who himself is set to return to the Octagon next month in the main event of UFC 276 during International Fight Week – draws the surging #2 ranked contender, Jared Cannonier at the T-Mobile Arena.

Israel Adesanya successfully landed his fourth title defense back in February at UFC 271

Making his second Octagon walk of the year, the Nigerian-Kiwi headlined UFC 271 back in February in a title rematch against former titleholder, Robert Whittaker – scoring a unanimous decision win in the pair’s title re-run.

Sharing his thoughts on the UFC 275 card in Singapore over the course of the weekend, Adesanya described former strawweight champion, Weili’s spectacular second round spinning back-fist knockout win over fellow former champion, Jedrzejczyk as “violent”.

“Wow, that was violent,” Israel Adesanya said during a reaction video on his official YouTube channel. “That was violent. That was violent.”

Following her brutal knockout defeat, Jedrzejczyk announced her retirement from professional; mixed martial arts with immediate effect – with Adesanya congratulating the Pole on a splendid professional run.

“Joanna (Jedrzejczyk), appreciate you, and I get it (retirement),” Israel Adesanya said. “It’s been a long time in the game, go live your life and enjoy yourself. You deserve it.” (Transcribed by SportsKeeda)

Amongst other notable victories for Oceania came in the form of knockout successes for both Jake Matthews and Jack Dell Maddelena, who stopped Ramzan Emeev, and Andre Fialho with a pair of blistering knockout wins, respectively.

Adesanya also joked that UFC color commentator, Michael Bisping was “racist”, when the former champion recalled Nick Diaz’s gogoplata submission win over Takanori Gomi – mistaking Gomi for Akihiro Gono.

“That was racist, Mike (Michael Bisping) that was racist,” Israel Adesanya joked. “You damn colonizer. Takahiro Gono – something like that, Sasimi.”

Referee, Marc Goddard has addressed multiple claims that newly-minted undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka, actually submitted on multiple occasions during his UFC 275 main event bout with former champion, Glover Teixeira in Singapore.

Jiri Prochazka found himself down on scorecards ahead of the fifth and final round

Clinching the undisputed light heavyweight crown in a blood-and-guts performance against Brazilian veteran, Teixeira over the course of five gruelling rounds, Jiri Prochazka became the first UFC champion hailing from Czech Republic – stopping Teixeira with a fifth round rear-naked choke – without hooks, no less

However, in some notable grappling scrambles earlier in the bout, Teixeira appeared to force several light taps from Jiri Prochazka during a period in top control, as well as when he attempted to set up an arm-triangle.

Goddard, who officiated the headliner in the Singapore Indoor Arena denied that Prochazka had actually tapped in submission to Teixeira, however, insisting that he had warned the Czech striker for playing a risky game, maintained that he was actually congratulating Teixeira for advancing position and controlling him from the top.

“Lol,” Marc Goddard tweeted in response to a user who questioned his view on Prochazka’s perceived submissions. “Jiri (Prochazka) was actually congratulating & encouraging his opponent (Glover Teixeira)! He done it a couple of times and I told him it’s a risky game lol! But it’s very clear what he was doing and intending. Lets celebrate the incredible feat from both gentlemen.”

Improving to 3-0 in the UFC with his title-winning performance over Teixeira, Prochazka also maintains his 100 per cent finish rate in the organization since his move from Rizin FF – adding to prior knockout successes against both Volkan Oezdemir, and Dominick Reyes.

Linked with several title defenses for his first outing as champion, Prochazka has been discussed alongside the prospect of an immediate title re-run with Teixeira, as well as a mouth-watering all-European title outing against Polish contender and former titleholder, Jan Blachowicz next.

Jiri Prochazka received an unexpected call from Tyson Fury after winning the title.

This past Saturday, Jiri Prochazka dethroned Glover Teixeira to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight champion at UFC 275. He is the first UFC champion from the Czech Republic and achieved the feat in the most dramatic fashion. In a close-fought battle that saw both men have their moments, Teixeira appeared to be ahead on the judges’ scorecards and needed the bout to go the distance to retain his strap.

Prochazka made a comeback in the final moments of the bout to secure a win in the fifth round by submission with less than 30 seconds left on the clock.

Tyson Fury video calls Prochazka

He received a video call from the two-time World Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury who congratulated him on the victory. In the video, Fury seems to have called in to get a hold of Prochazka.

“Thank you! Thank you so much for your call,” said Prochazka.

“Congratulations! All the best, god bless you,” said Tyson.

“Victory, all the time,” exclaimed Prochazka.

Jiri Prochazka’s road to UFC champion

‘Denisa’ has had one of the most unique runs to the title in the UFC. Having joined the promotion in July 2020, Prochazka only fought twice before getting a shot at the gold. This was off the back of his achievements prior to joining the company and also what he was able to do in the short period of time he was there.

Prochazka knocked out Volkan Oezdemir in the opening minute of round two on his debut. His second outing against Dominick Reyes ended in a similar fashion, with ‘BJP’ knocking out the former title challenger with a spinning back elbow in round two.

Prochazka is expected to face former 205-lbs title holder Jan Blachowicz in his next fight.

Shevchenko Claims Santos Fight Was “Exactly” What She Wanted

Women’s Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko is satisfied after passing the toughest test of her title reign at UFC 275. Speaking at the post-fight press conference following her split-decision win over Taila Santos, the 34-year-old claimed the fight went exactly how she was hoping. “I did everything that I had to do,” Shevchenko said. “I had…

“I had a (challenging) fight, and I (went the) distance, five rounds. And this is exactly what I wanted: an opponent who (was) not giving up from the first second, going to the end.”

The champion went on to explain the value of facing a challenger that pushed her the way Santos did.

“And in this kind of fight, you can really show what you’re made of: your character, your mindset. You kinda get what is yours: victory, no matter how hard, no matter how difficult. It’s showing who you are. So I’m happy.”

Shevchenko Explains Why Judges Scored The Fight In Her Favor

Shevchenko’s seventh title defense was easily her most challenging. Santos was able to use her wrestling to control “Bullet” for large periods of the bout and even threaten for submissions.

According to the 34-year-old, there was never any real danger of her being finished.

“Nothing surprised me. And I really didn’t have any position — even when she was on my back, I didn’t feel trouble, kinda like, ‘Oh, my god. This is tight,’ and you have to work on your character to escape this.”

The scoring of the bout drew some controversy online, but Shevchenko echoed a sentiment that has been a regular headline in the MMA world as of late: damage is of greater value than position.

“And more than that, she kind of was inactive. And me, even being in that position, I was striking. And I (felt) the power of the strike, and I felt how she (reacted) because it was hurting her. And this is what counts the most in mixed martial arts: damage. And through the fight, going from round to round, you can see more damage showing on her face, more and more. And this is kind of like, no matter what position, you have to work your job.”

Serving as the co-main event of UFC 275, Shevchenko’s victory over Santos was the only bout of the event’s main card to go the distance.

The main event’s light heavyweight title fight looked like it was also bound for a decision, but challenger Ji?í Procházka snatched a submission with less than 30 seconds left and forced a tap from champion Glover Teixeira.

What do you think of Shevchenko’s comments about her fight with Taila Santos?

Welcome to this week’s edition of MMA News’ Top 10 Finishes of the week! Every week there’s highlight-reel finishes all across the MMA world, and we’ve found some of the absolute best ones to showcase.

Last week was a busy one, as the UFC debuted their series of Road to the UFC cards in the lead-up to UFC 275. Those four events had enough finishes to fill out a separate Top 10, but they ended up only being a warm-up for the weekend’s action. UFC 275 provided a number of impressive finishes and was arguably the best event of the year, but a pair of big knockouts from LFA and Cage Warriors also made the cut for this week’s list.

#10: Muin Gafurov Arrives In LFA

First up this week is the main event from LFA 134, where Muin Gafurov competed in his first bout since a split-decision loss on Contender Series 2021.

The 26-year-old proved he may well get another chance at the UFC after landing a right hand that turned Herbeth Sousa around as he landed on the mat.

#9: Chasen Blair’s Hometown Walk-Off

Cage Warriors 139 was held outdoors under the beautiful San Diego sunshine, and welterweight Chasen Blair made the most of the spotlight against Kona Oliveira.

The San Diego-born fighter sent his hometown crowd into a frenzy with a huge right hand off a clinch break that put Oliveira down and had Blair raising his arms in victory.

#8: Jeong Yeong Lee Grabs An Arm

The Road to the UFC cards provided a number of impressive finishes, including this submission from Jeong Yeong Lee in the featured bout of Road to the UFC 3.

Lee looked like he might put Contender Series veteran Bin Xie out with elbows while defending a takedown, but once he hit the ground the South Korean quickly locked up an armbar just over 30 seconds into the fight.

#7: Jack Della Madellana Goes To The Body

Jack Della Madellana looked in serious danger of being submitted by Ramazan Emeev before showcasing the striking that has made him one of the UFC’s hottest prospects.

(Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC)

The Australian caught Emeev swinging wildly and started to pour on volume, eventually landing a body shot that brought the Russian to his knees for Madallana’s second first-round stoppage in as many UFC bouts.

#6: Zhang Mingyang Beats The Odds

The very first bout of Road to the UFC featured some of the most lopsided betting odds of the series, which set the stage for Zhang Mingyang to kick things off with an upset.

The Chinese light heavyweight applied pressure to heavily-favored George Tokkos early, eventually landing a right hand and some vicious follow up shots to get the victory with just over a minute left in the first round.

#5: Silvana Gómez Juárez Gets Her First UFC Win

Silvana Gómez Juárez lost her first two UFC bouts via armbar, and a loss to Na Liang at UFC 275 could very well have ended her run with the promotion.

The 37-year-old strawweight rose to the occasion, rocking Liang with a right hand before landing a follow-up combination that had her opponent slumping to the canvas.

#4: Hayishaer Maheshate’s Explosive Debut

Of all the notable performances at UFC 275, the debut of 22-year-old Hayishaer Maheshate against Steve Garcia may have been the most impressive.

Maheshate landed a perfectly-timed counter shot that floored Garcia and gave Maheshate a moment to admire his work before jumping onto the cage to celebrate his first UFC win.

#3: Jeka Saragih Makes His Case To The UFC

Road to the UFC showcased a number of fighters hoping to make a lasting impression, and arguably no one did that more successfully than Jeka Saragih.

Not satisfied with what looked to be an impending decision win, the Indonesian lightweight dropped Pawan Maan Singh with a spinning back fist in the third round to make sure everyone remembered his performance.

#2: Ji?í Procházka Claims The Title

Are there more violent and technically impressive finishes ranked lower on this list? Absolutely. Did any of those fights carry the same stakes and end as dramatically as this one? Absolutely not.

After possibly the greatest fight in the history of the UFC’s light heavyweight division, challenger Ji?í Procházka handed Glover Teixiera the first submission loss of his career and won the light heavyweight title with less than 30 seconds left in the final round.

#1: Weili Zhang Sends Joanna Into Retirement

Even with two title fight headlining the card, the rematch between former strawweight champions Weili Zhang and Joanna J?drzejczyk was arguably the most anticipated fight at UFC 275.

After a whirlwind first round where both women seemed determined to top the action from their original fight, Zhang ended their rivalry with a spinning back fist that left J?drzejczyk facedown on the canvas.

What do you think of this week’s list? Are there any finishes you think should have made the cut that didn’t? What about ones you think should have been ranked higher or lower?
