Jorge Masvidal involved in another altercation weigh in UFC 287 Kevin Holland

Following an earlier skirmish at the fighter hotel ahead of UFC 287, welterweight contenders, Jorge Masvidal, and Kevin Holland were once more separated following official weigh-ins, and corralled by coaches and officials.

Both featuring on this weekend’s UFC 287 card in Miami, Florida – hometown favorite and two-time title challenger, Masvidal returns to the Octagon in a showdown against Gilbert Burns.

As for Riverside striker, Holland, the contender returns to the ‘Sunshine State’ for his second consecutive fight, taking on Argentine veteran, Santiago Ponzinibbio.

Earlier this week, footage emerged of both Kevin Holland and Jorge Masvidal engaging in an altercation and verbal back-and-forth at the fighter hotel, with security officials keeping the two at distance.

And following last night’s ceremonial weigh-ins, it appears the two were involved in somewhat of an altercation again.

In footage captured by TMZ Sports, Jorge Masvidal and Holland are kept separated by coaches and bystanders on the streets of Miami, with the former attempting to engage with the Californian, despite the best efforts of his team to keep him under wraps.

Speaking with the outlet, Holland’s manager, Oren Hodak explained how his client said, “sup, baby girl” to Masvidal – resulting in both this latest altercation and the earlier scuffle at the fighter hotel on Wednesday.

Jorge Masvidal has been sidelined for over a year

Without a win in his last three straight Octagon outings, Masvidal most recently dropped a unanimous decision loss to Colby Covington at UFC 272 back in March of last year.

As for Holland, the former middleweight contender headlined UFC Fight Night Orlando back in December of last year, suffering a fourth round TKO loss to former title challenger and common-opponent, Stephen Thompson.

UFC 287 takes place at the Miami-Dade Center in Miami, Florida – with an undisputed middleweight championship rematch between, champion, Alex Pereira – and former titleholder, Israel Adesanya taking headlining honors.

Kevin Holland’s striking coach, Durwyn Lamb, shared insight into what caused the altercation between Kevin Holland and Jorge Masvidal.

On Wednesday afternoon, footage emerged online showing Kevin Holland and Jorge Masvidal engaging in a war of words in a Miami hotel lobby as they were taking part in the afternoon’s UFC 287 media day. Holland made reference to the incident in an Instagram post but did not provide any details as to what caused the spat.

In an interview with InsideFighting, Kevin Holland’s striking coach Durwyn Lamb shed some light on the scuffle.

“I don’t know much about it. I just know that they did run into each other and there were some words exchanged,” Lamb said. “I think the background that Kevin actually kind of liked Masvidal before that, but I think what happened was that [Kevin] didn’t like the sucker punch deal with the Leon [Edwards] stuff.

“He didn’t like the stuff with Colby Covington and it just kind of rubbed the wrong way so it kinda changes view of him. That’s kinda how that started. Some words exchanged online. Here and there, back and forth and they just ran into each other.”

Kevin Holland Doesn’t Approve of Jorge Masvidal Sucker Punching People

As most MMA fans are aware, Jorge Masvidal is currently awaiting a criminal trial scheduled to get underway next month. ‘Gamebred’ allegedly attacked former friend turned bitter rival Colby Covington outside of a Miami steakhouse in March 2022, just weeks removed from their UFC 272 bout. Three years prior, Masvidal was involved in another incident with Leon Edwards backstage following an event in London. It was there that Masvidal delivered a series of backstage strikes that he later dubbed a ‘three-piece and a soda.’

“[Kevin] didn’t like that persona and the way he was kind of carrying himself like on some G stuff so it was kind of like, he didn’t like that,” Lamb continued. “Kind of almost a bully type of thing and he didn’t feel like that was cool.

“Sucker punching people like that, it didn’t sit right in his spirit. One thing about Kevin, he’s not shy about what he feels and what he says. What he feels is what he’s gonna say.”

Kevin Holland will look to get back in the win column at UFC 287 after dropping back-to-back bouts against Khamzat Chimaev and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson. He’ll be tasked with taking on Argentinian striker Santiago Ponzinibbio. Jorge Masvidal will compete on the same card, stepping into the spotlight for a co-main event clash with No. 5 ranked welterweight contender Gilbert Burns.

Israel Adesanya vows to use IV to rehydrate after UFC 287 weigh ins

Former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya sends cryptic Tweet to USADA.

It’s make-or-break for Adesanya this weekend as he prepares to take on Alex Pereira in an MMA rematch, but what will be their fourth fight between them including kickboxing. The pair fought just six months ago, and Pereira would rally in the final round after being down on the scorecards, landing his signature left hook. The Brazilian would then follow it up with hooks, forcing the referee to call it off and a new champion crowned.

While both men posses rare striking talent, Pereira does hold a notable size advantage over the former champion. ‘Poatan’ reportedly weighed over 25lbs+ more than the 185lb limit last time they fought in November.

Such a huge weight cut can be a huge detriment to someone’s health and athletic performance, but there are ways you can recover better and faster. One of which would be to use an IV to rehydrate, which is banned if it is over 100ml in a 12 hour period.

Israel Adesanya asks USADA to be on alert

Adesanya sent out Tweets, eluding to someone (probably Pereira) using an IV after weigh-in. his teammate Dan Hooker levied similar clams against Islam Makhachev when he fought teammate Alexander Volkanovski in February of this year

‘USADA, monitor us from the moment we get off the scale till we hit the arena on Saturday. Have people take shifts if they have to…no loopholes to jump here.’ – Adesanya

‘Fine then, I’ll just use an IV to rehydrate. What’s the “legal loophole limit” again?‘- Israel Adesanya

The fight will be in the main even of UFC 287, which is taking place in Miami, Florida – marking a return to the city for the UFC after two decades.
