Alex Pereira tipped to fight as high as heavyweight division UFC UFC 287

UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira will have his first title defence in just two weeks, but his coach says a change in weight class is a future possibility.

Pereira’s coach and former 205lbs champion, Glover Teixeira, went as far as stating that a move all the way up to heavyweight is a realistic option.

UFC 287 will prove to be a defining moment in Pereira’s MMA career, as he will be facing off against Israel Adesanya for the fourth time in combat sports.

Adesanya may have had his moments throughout the fight, but once again, it was Alex Pereira who had Adesanya’s number for the third time.

It began when Pereira battled ‘The Last Stylebender’ twice before the two ventured into the MMA circle.

Pereira came out victorious with a decision and a devastating knockout in a highly competitive bout.

At UFC 281, Adesanya came out ready to scrap and he not only outstruck Alex Pereira, but he hurt him badly at the end of round 1. ‘Poatan’ was forced to dig deep and with just minutes to go he showed his true power and snatched a TKO victory.

Pereira, who is rumoured to walk around much heavier than most in his weight class, is known to go through very intense weight cuts in order to make 185.

Speaking with MMA Junkie, Teixeira confirmed the adversity Alex Pereira goes through when cutting to 185, but he says it does not hinder his motivation.

“Eventually I think he’s going to want to do that because the weight cut is a big cut for him. He doesn’t complain. He just keeps going and doing it well, because he likes to be 185, and he feels good. But he can do 205 for sure and eventually it might happen because if he goes up, there are super fights, big fights. I think it’s a possibility.”

Teixeira has worked very closely with Pereira during his infant and now championship MMA career. He has become a mentor to Poatan at their gym, Teixeira MMA & Fitness, in Bethel, Connecticut.

The 35-year-old has just 8 professional MMA fights, a number frail in comparison to the 42 fights that Teixeira has been in.

Regardless of the result at UFC 287, Teixeira has made it clear that down the line Pereira will feature at a heavier weight, and it will not deter his success.

“Eventually he will. We talk about it. He can fight anywhere. Look at this guy. He can fight in any division. He can fight in Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight – he’s big.” (Transcribed by BJPENN.com)

Marvin Vettori believes he beats Israel Adesanya in third UFC fight

Despite suffering a pair of decision losses to former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya during his Octagon tenure, recent UFC 286 co-headliner, Marvin Vettori believes he has made the requisite improvements and adjustments to leave himself confident of breaking his duct in a trilogy fight.

Vettori, the current #3 ranked middleweight contender, managed to return to the winner’s enclosure at UFC 286 earlier this month, defeating the surging, Roman Dolidze in a close, unanimous decision victory in the pair’s co-main event matchup in London.

Rebounding to the winning circle, Vettori had previously dropped a UFC Fight Night Paris decision loss to former undisputed middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker in July of last year.

Dropping a close decision loss to Adesanya in their first pairing back in April 2018, Trento native, Vettori worked his way back to a title rematch with the former champion with a five-fight winning streak, before dropping another unanimous decision loss in their UFC 263 headlining rematch.

Marvin Vettori believes he now has the tools to defeat Israel Adesanya

However, with Adesanya slated to headline UFC 287 in two weeks’ time against undisputed kingpin, Alex Pereira in a bid to regain his championship crown – Vettori believes a third outing with the Nigerian-Kiwi would see him emerge as the victor.

“Maybe I’ll get (Israel) Adesanya after this fight,” Marvin Vettori said during a recent interview with Inside Fighting. “With the improvement in my striking – it is good, I will make an improvement in the wrestling. I will press the wrestling even more and I’m definitely – my top control is much sharper right now.”

“So I think I would do it [defeat Israel Adesanya] for sure,” Marvin Vettori explained. “I will be very confident walking into that fight, to be honest.”

Over the course of last weekend, Vettori made headlines after footage emerged of him involved in an altercation with an Italian rapper and professional boxer, dropping the latter with a series of punches during a scuffle

Before his decison loss to Whittaker last summer, Vettori defeated fellow one-time title challenger, Paulo Costa in a unanimous decision triumph in an impromtu light heavyweight clash.

UFC middleweight champion Alex Pereira is currently in preparation for his rematch, or quadrilogy, whichever way you look at it, against former champion Israel Adesanya early next month at UFC 287.

Pereira recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel, showcasing his fight camp, and a small idea of what he’s been working on. When asked about how his weekend went, the Brazilian responded with the following:

“I was resting good this weekend because my week was hard. I had two very hard sparring (sessions) so it was important to rest. Now (I’m) starting the week with boxing training, a lot of movement, that’s it.”

The video showcases him training boxing, as well as some ground and pound with his teammate, former UFC light-heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira, a 2nd-degree BJJ black belt who’s been helping him work on his grappling since 2020.

Going into his UFC middleweight title shot against longstanding champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 281, Pereira only had a professional record of 6-1, and the result showed him become the most inexperienced UFC champion we’ve seen in a long time.

Even Chris Weidman had nine fights when he first defeated Anderson Silva, Holly Holm had nine when she beat Ronda Rousey, TJ Dillashaw had 11 when he beat Renan Barao the first time.

Pereira did the unthinkable with just seven pro bouts at the time, though he had defeated Adesanya twice in kickboxing prior to their MMA careers.

In their first affair, Pereira was awarded the unanimous decision victory, though many believed Adesanya won the fight, and Adesanya was winning their second fight up until he got KO’d stiff in round three.

Pereira was down on the cards 3-1 going into the fifth round of their UFC title fight last November, and he was sniper-like enough when it mattered to hurt Adesanya badly in the fifth and final round, where he continued to crack Adesanya with vicious punches until the referee stopped the fight via TKO.

Now we get to see them go at it again for a fourth time, where Pereira aims to make the first defense of his newly claimed title in their immediate rematch at UFC 287.

Does Alex Pereira do it again and make it to 4-0 in his series with Israel Adesanya?

Jorge Masvidal predicts Gilbert Burns clash at UFC 287: ‘I’ll paint my Van Gogh on his face’

Jorge MasvidalJorge Masvidal plans to make a modern art masterpiece using Gilbert Burns’ face next month when the two welterweight standouts square off inside the Octagon. ‘Gamebred’ will attempt to get back into the win column for the first time since 2019, but it will be no easy task when he meets No. 5 ranked contender […]

Jorge Masvidal

Jorge Masvidal plans to make a modern art masterpiece using Gilbert Burns’ face next month when the two welterweight standouts square off inside the Octagon.

‘Gamebred’ will attempt to get back into the win column for the first time since 2019, but it will be no easy task when he meets No. 5 ranked contender Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 on April 8. Before his highly anticipated return to action, Jorge Masvidal shared some honest thoughts on his next opponent and creatively labeled the next chapter of his combat sports career during an interview with MMA Junkie.

“This chapter would be Gilbert ‘The Stepping Stone’ Burns,” Masvidal said. “It’s no disrespect to Gilbert and stuff, ‘cause I think he’s a good competitor. He comes to fight, you know? And things like that for the most part. But we’ve never been on the same skillset. And then as far as like gameness goes, as far as like toughness and durability and you know, that sturdiness, he’s never had it either.

“He gets cracked and he starts skating. So I don’t know, he’s good in the jiu-jitsu world but his wrestling ain’t that. And I’ve only been focusing these last six months on making sure that I can deal with these wrestlers efficiently. Get to positions efficiently, not waste as much energy” (transcription by MMA News).

Jorge Masvidal is Ready to Make a Statement Against Gilbert Burns

Jorge Masvidal plans to display his artistic side at UFC 287, using his large palette of skills to paint a violent picture with Gilbert Burns’ face as the canvas.

“So I’m gonna tell you that I’m gonna paint my Van Gogh on Gilbert’s face man. With elbows, knees, kicks, takedown defense, takedown offense. All of that good stuff, I’m gonna bring it. And just like when I started my career, just go out there and fight and have fun. It’s not a game because there’s a lot I risk, but at the same time this is my pickup basketball game, this is my soccer game, this is my baseball game, this is what I enjoy doing. So I don’t need to do anything any more than that, just go out there and do it.”

Despite being on a three-fight losing skid, Jorge Masvidal could very well be one big win away from a UFC title opportunity against reigning welterweight champion Leon Edwards. ‘Gamebred’ could skyrocket to the top five of the division with a win over Burns, but more importantly, there is already a history between Edwards and himself. That could play a big role in the UFC’s decision-making once next month’s pay-per-view at Miami-Dade Arena is in the books.

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya maintains that despite finding himself on the losing side of proceedings against current division titleholder, Alex Pereira across professional combat sports – he has the tools to defeat the Brazilian berserker.

Adesanya, the current #1 ranked division contender, returns to the Octagon at UFC 287 next month against Pereira in an immediate championship rematch, following their November showdown at Madison Square Garden last year.

Headlining in New York City, Adesanya suffered an eventual fifth round standing TKO loss against Sao Paulo striker, Pereira, dropping his first professional loss at the middleweight limit in mixed martial arts – as well as his undisputed crown.

Israel Adesanya maintains he has the tools to defeat Alex Pereira at UFC 287

Rematching the former GLORY Kickboxing duel-weight champion in Miami, Florida in the opening week of April, City Kickboxing staple, Adesanya, who claimed previously how he needed to land at least one win over Pereira before calling time on his career – maintained he has the ability to sway the tide and defeat the latter at UFC 287.

“I have nothing to lose – that’s the best thing,” Israel Adesanya said on The Rock. “Like I said, I have nothing to lose, the worst has already happened. So, it’s like, what’s he (Alex Pereira) gonna do again – the worst has already happened.”

“I’ll tell you one thing, I know how to beat this guy,” Israel Adesanya continued. “I know in my heart I know – he know’s I know how to beat him. That’s the thing.”

Earlier this month, Pereira – who has already begun cutting weight for next month’s title showdown, alluded to the passing of Adesanya at the UFC 287 pay-per-view event, posting a video on social media – accompanied by the Nigerian-Kiwi’s date of birth, and assumed date of death

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya admits that he was taken aback by the reaction of current titleholder, Alex Pereira’s reaction to his review of UFC 286 last week – defending his interests and lifestyle, as well as questioning who the Brazilian thinks he actually is to be casting judgement.

Adesanya, the current #1 ranked middleweight contender, is booked to headline UFC 287 next month in Miami, Florida – taking on the above-mentioned Sao Paulo native, Pereira in an immediate championship rematch.

Headlining UFC 281 back in November of last year at Madison Square Garden, Pereira managed to clinch the undisputed middleweight championship in a rallying display against Israel Adesanya – stopping the City Kickboxing staple with a fifth round standing TKO victory.
Set to defend his title in a rematch against the Nigerian-Kiwi in just over three week’s time, Pereira shared his reaction to Adesanya’s review of UFC 286 last weekend – appearing to scoff at the latter’s collection of stuffed animals and plush toys.

Israel Adesanya looks to finally break his duct against Alex Pereira next month

Defending his own interests and lifestyle, Adesanya posed the question to Pereira as to whom he thinks he is, in order to cast judgement on someone else’s interests.

“That was weird, bro,” Israel Adesanya said on The Rock podcast. “You know what’s weird though for me, I’m like – I don’t care but there’s one reaction he gave. This one reaction he gave, like, they pan to, like, some stuffed animals, right? And he goes like [mimic Alex Pereira’s reaction] – and for me, I’m like, ‘Who the f*ck do you think you are?’ Like that, I don’t look at him and go, ‘Why you wearing that f*cking face paint?’… I don’t care.” (Transcribed by MMA News

Successfully defending his undisputed title on a slew of occasions before his November knockout loss, Adesanya had landed wins over Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Jared Cannonier prior to his defeat to Pereira.
