Sean O'Malley wins title with stunning KO win over Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 Highlights

Sean O’Malley has minted himself as the new undisputed bantamweight champion, stopping dominant titleholder, Aljamain Sterling with a spectacular second round KO in tonight’s main event of UFC 292 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Challenging for undisputed bantamweight gold for the first time during his Octagon tenure, O’Malley managed to keep his distance throughout the opening round of his main event tilt with Uniondale native, limiting any offense to leg kicks, while he attempted to counter with kicks to the body of his own.

Defending a late takedown attempt from Sterling in the first round, Montana native, O’Malley then managed to defend once more early in the second frame — before countering with a huge straight right hand at Sterling closed the distance, dropping the Serra-Longo MMA staple to the canvas in brutal fashion.

Immediately pouncing on Sterling, O’Malley laid waste to the incumbent bantamweight champion with a savage slew of ground strikes, splitting open the champion and forcing a stoppage from referee, Marc Goddard — minting himself as the undisputed bantamweight champion.

Zhang Weili delivered one of the most dominant performances of her career, dispatching Amanda Lemos in the UFC 292 co-main event on Saturday night.

Zhang Weili established her dominance from the get-go, taking Lemos to the ground and smothering her with superior strength and grappling. However, Lemos nearly caught the strawweight champ in a darce choke from the bottom. Unfortunately, Lemos was unable to gain control of Zhang’s lower half, allowing the champ to slide into side control as a way to defend against the maneuver. Before long, Lemos relinquished the hold and Zhang unleashed a flurry of ground-and-pound strikes as the first five minutes came to a close.

The second and third rounds saw Zhang in complete control, taking Lemos down at will and stifling the challenger’s offense.

The tide slowly began to turn in the fourth round as Zhang opted to stay on her feet and strike with Lemos. After eating a couple of solid shots from Lemos, Zhang opted to shoot for a takedown but nearly found herself in another darce choke attempt. Whilst fighting her way out of the hold, Lemos was able to scramble back to her feet, but she couldn’t muster enough offense to steal the round.

Coming out for the fifth and final round, Zhang Weili was determined to put an exclamation point on her performance and nearly did just that, sitting Lemos down with a massive right hand in the early moments of the round. Zhang unleashed a flurry of strikes in an attempt to earn the finish, but Lemos never once gave up, surviving the onslaught until the final horn sounded.

Official Result: Zhang Weili def. Amanda Lemos via unanimous decision (50-43, 50-44, 49-45)

Improving to 13-0 tonight on the main card of UFC 292, Portmarnock contender, Ian Machado Garry forced multiple knockdowns throughout the three round limit of his showdown with the veteran, Neil Magny, landing a series of punishing calf kicks en route to a thoroughly one-sided unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 30-24) victory at the TD Garden, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Machado Garry, who entered tonight’s main card debut on a pay-per-view off the back of a stunning first round high-kick and strikes TKO win over Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Nashville back in April of last year, will likely crack the welterweight top-10 rankings come next week off the back of tonight’s performance.

The Dubliner managed to land his sixth consecutive victory since landing in the UFC back in 2021 in tonight’s success against Magny, dropping the division’s most winningest fighter on multiple occasions throughout their main card pairing, hammering home a slew of nasty and punishing low kicks.

Beckoning the Illionis native back to his feet in a pairing which certainly left no love lost, Ian Machado Garry would switch his attention to former two-time welterweight championship challenger, Stephen Thompson, calling for a main event bout with the Simponsville native off the back of his win against Magny.
