Kurt Holobaugh

TUF competitor Kurt Holobaugh defied the odds and scored an impressive second-round submission to become the season 31 lightweight winner at UFC 292.

Holobaugh walked into his Ultimate Fighter final listed as a +155 matchup, but the former Titan FC standout thrives on being the underdog. That showed in the second round of his matchup with fellow finalist Austin Hubbard inside Boston’s TD Garden. Things seemed to be going well for Hubbard early in the opening round, but Holobaugh managed to overwhelm Hubbard in the second, taking him to the ground and immediately fishing for a submission finish.

Holobaugh teased an armbar near the halfway point of the round, forcing Hubbard to move directly into a triangle choke with no choice, but to tap out once the hold was cinched in.

Official Result: Kurt Holobaugh def. Austin Hubbard via submission (triangle choke) at 2:39 of Round 2.

Julian Lane was still trash talking while being dominated on the ground by Austin Hubbard at XMMA 5.

This was Lane’s first MMA match since 2018, where he lost by rear naked choke. The former Ultimate Fighter contestant has been making his money fighting in the BKFC.

He has a record of 3-6 at BKFC and had a fantastic feud with former UFC prospect Mike Perry. In the lead to the fight, Lane was constantly talking about Perry and the things he would do to him inside the ring. He even threw a full water bottle at Perry while he was doing an interview to sell the fight. He lost in that grudge match and the two didn’t even bury the hatchet after the match.

Julian Lane is known as being a trash talker, and this was just another example

In the video you can hear Lane talking smack while being controlled.

“Stand up. Let’s go man, f**k you doing? Holding me down like a b***h. I don’t give a f**k. You want to bang? F**k is that? What you gonna’ do? You ain’t doin’ nothing b***h. You’re a hoe, that’s why they [UFC] cut you bro. You can’t get into the UFC like this.” Lane said while eating numerous elbows.

It’s ironic that Lane would speak on getting to the UFC and cut, when he never even made it into the promotion. Hubbard fought in the UFC 7 times in his career, most recently in August of 2021, when he lost to Vinc Pichel. Hubbard ended his UFC career with a 3-4 record, and although he had a losing record in the octagon, he at least made it to the biggest promotion in the world and even got a few wins.

What do you think of Lane talking trash while being hit with elbows?

The UFC made its latest slew of reported cuts on Wednesday in the form of fighters such as Kris Moutinho and Mike Grundy.

News of the releases was reported by Twitter user UFC Roster Watch.

Moutinho most recently suffered a first-round standing TKO loss to Guido Cannetti in March. His UFC debut came on short notice against Sean O’Malley at UFC 264, losing via third-round TKO to the promising bantamweight prospect. Moutinho and O’Malley ended up earning Fight of the Night bonuses for their battle.

Before Moutinho signed with the UFC, he earned back-to-back wins during stints in CFFC and CES over Andrew Salas and Ashiek Ajim. A majority of his wins have come in CES, where he won seven of his first nine professional fights.

It’s unclear if Moutinho intends to return to CES or will sign with another promotion for his next MMA venture.

Like Moutinho, Grundy had his fair share of struggles recently with three-straight losses in the Octagon. He fell to Makwan Amirkhani via submission in just 57 seconds at UFC London in March.

Grundy made his UFC debut back in 2019 against Nad Narimani, earning a second-round knockout following stints in Shooto and ACB.

Moutinho and Grundy were far from the only cuts made by the UFC on Wednesday, as reported by UFC Roster Watch. Fares Ziam, Luigi Vendramini and Austin Hubbard were among the other names reportedly let go by the promotion.

Moutinho, Hubbard and Grundy have yet to publically address their reported releases.

Are you surprised by the UFC releasing Kris Moutinho, Austin Hubbard, and Mike Grundy?
