Jiri Prochazka is more than ready to run through another Brazilian if it means reclaiming the light heavyweight title.

On Wednesday, UFC CEO Dana White made a series of blockbuster announcements regarding the promotion’s last two pay-per-views of the year. On November 11, former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka will return to the Octagon for the first time in nearly a year in a bid to regain the 205-pound title that he never lost. Standing in his way will be Brazilian knockout artist and former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira.

The pair will feature in the co-main event of UFC 295, emanating from the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden.

In June 2022, Jiri Prochazka captured the light heavyweight title in an instant classic with the former champion Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. The two fighters were set to run it back in December, but ‘Denisa’ suffered a shoulder injury that took him out of the fight, forcing him to vacate the 205-pound crown.

With the belt once again vacated following an injury sustained by Prochazka’s successor, Jamahal Hill, ‘Denisa’ will have the opportunity to make things right and once again claim the light heavyweight title.

Jiri Prochazka Will Be Ready for a Fight with Glover Teixeira’s Protégé

Meeting Jiri Prochazka in the co-main clash is Alex Pereira, a heavy-hitting Brazilian who has forged a close relationship with Prochazka’s last opponent, Glover Teixeira. The recently retired Teixeira will undoubtedly be in Pereira’s corner come UFC 295, giving Prochazka not one, but two Brazilian baddies to contend with in his highly anticipated return.

“I am glad to be able to face this Brazilian challenge again, even if in a different coat,” Prochazka wrote on X. “But that doesn’t change the fact that I will prepare well for this challenge and go for the win. It’s not just about the belt anymore, it’s about the performance and the path to victory.”

Making his Octagon debut in the summer of 2020, Jiri Prochazka only needed two big wins over Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes to secure his first shot at the light heavyweight title. Submitting Teixeira in a back-and-forth war to capture the crown, his title reign was cut frustratingly short after suffering a devastating shoulder injury.

‘Denisa’ goes into his second UFC title tilt with a 3-0 record inside the Octagon and 11-1 overall. Prochazka is almost eight years removed from his last defeat. He’ll look to keep that streak alive when he meets former GLORY Kickboxing world champion Alex Pereira at MSG in NYC this November.

Stipe Miocic never looked better ahead of UFC 295 title fight with Jon Jones

Former two-weight champion, Daniel Cormier has revealed that whilst speaking to a member of Stipe MIocic’s camp ahead of the latter’s return to challenge heavyweight champion, Jon Jones at UFC 295 in November – the Ohio native was described as never having “looked better” – preparing for a two-year hiatus snapping return.

Miocic, twice a former undisputed heavyweight champion under the banner of the promotion, headlined UFC 260 in his most recent Octagon walk back in March 2021, suffered a thunderous knockout loss on that occasion, dropping his title to Francis Ngannou in the pair’s championship re-run.

And yet to return to active competition in the time since, the veteran Euclid native is slated to take main event honors in ‘The Big Apple’ in two months’ time as he challenges incumbent heavyweight kingpin and pound-for-pound number one, Jones, in a potential retirement fight for both veterans.

Stipe Miocic’s physique praised ahead of UFC 295 title fight return

While opening as a significant underdog to defeat Jones in his comeback to the Octagon, Miocic has been backed as “never looking better” – according to information received by UFC color commentator and Hall of Fame inductee, Cormier.

“I think the best (Stipe) Miocic is in the mid-240s (pounds) and he’s saying how now that he’s (Stipe Miocic) back around that weight,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “I spoke to someone in the Miocic camp and they told me he’s never looked better. He looks huge, he looks big, he looks strong. Now, is that gonna be enough? I don’t know.”

“I’m just giving you this information, I’m pulling the curtain back to you guys can understand that expect the Stipe Miocic from the title run opposed to the guy you saw later,” Cormier continued. “The small guy – the skinny guy.”

Without a victory since 2020, Miocic’s most recent win came in the form of back-to-back title fights against the aforenoted, Cormier, first stopping the Louisianan in the pair’s title rematch, before taking a decision win in the pair’s rubber match trilogy.

And ahead of his title clash with Jones, Miocic warned the Endicott native that his often-overlooked power should be a cause of concern for him ahead of UFC 295

Former undisputed middleweight champion, Alex Pereira is set to make his Octagon return in tandem with fellow former titleholder, Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 in November – with the pair vying for the vacant light heavyweight crown at Madison Square Garden.

Per an official announcement from UDC CEO, Dana White, Pereira will co-headline the New York card against the returning former light heavyweight champion, Prochazka.

The bout will take co-main event status, beneath a long-awaited undisputed heavyweight title fight between the incumbent and pound-for-pound number one, Jon Jones, and former champion, Stipe Miocic.

Alex Pereira returns at UFC 295 against Jiri Prochazka

Making a successful light heavyweight divisional bow at UFC 291 back in July, Pereira scored a close split decision win over another former division titleholder – defeating Jan Blachowicz over the course of three rounds.

Himself sidelined since he headlined UFC 275 back in May of last year in Singapore, Prochazka struck light heavyweight gold on that occasion with a submission win over Pereira’s close friend and teammate, Glover Teixeira.

Forced to vacate the crown back in December of last year ahead of a rematch with Brazilian veteran, Teixeira, Prochazka suffered a reportedly gruesome shoulder injury, sidelining him ultimately for 11 months.

Hoping to strike gold for the second time since beginning his Octagon tenure back in 2021, Pereira took home the middleweight title last November at MSG, defeating former two time champion, Israel Adesanya with a rallying fifth round TKO.

Pereira would ultimately lose the crown to the above-mentioned, Adesanya at UFC 287 earlier this year after suffering a thunderous second round KO in their Miami, Florida rematch.

UFC 295 takes place on November 11. from Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York – with Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic headlining the card ahead of Pereira’s title return against Prochazka.

Ahead of his hiatus-snapping Octagon return in November at UFC 295, former two-time undisputed heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic has claimed he hits “a lot harder than people think” – warning incoming opponent, Jon Jones of his power punching.

Miocic, a former undisputed heavyweight champion twice under the banner of the promotion, has been sidelined since he suffered a thunderous second round KO loss to promotional veteran, Francis Ngannou back in March 2021 in the main event of UFC 260.

Yet to make a return to the Octagon in the time since, Ohio native, Miocic is slated to headline UFC 295 in his comeback fight at Madison Square Garden in November, taking on former two-time light heavyweight titleholder turned undisputed heavyweight champion, Jones in a blockbuster title fight.

Stipe Miocic issues a definite warning to Jon Jones ahead of UFC 295

And despite opening as a significant betting underdog to topple the newly-instated pound-for-pound number one, Miocic has warned Jones that he has a speed advantage, and an often-overlooked power play up his sleeve ahead of their UFC 295 title showing.

“Throwing bombs, having fun, and doing what I do, bringing the fight,” Stipe Miocic told BetOnline.ag. “I think [Jon Jones needs to worry about my] speed, my angles – I think my punching power.”

“I hit a lot harder than people think,” Stipe Miocic explained. “And then I think I have great IQ. I always change it up, and when something happens, I figure a way out.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Regarded as likely the greatest heavyweight fighter to ever compete in mixed martial arts antiquity, Miocic has racked up stunning victories over the likes of Philip De Fries, Roy Nelson, Gabriel Gonzaga, Mark Hunt, Andrei Arlovski, Fabricio Werdum, Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos, Francis Ngannou, and Daniel Cormier to name a few.

Amid links to an eventual clash with undefeated welterweight finishing ace, Shavkat Rakhmonov – Jack Della Maddalena has been suggested as the ideal opponent to welcome the Uzbekistan native back to the Octagon, after the Australian previously claimed he believed he could beat the former.

Rakhmonov, the current number six ranked welterweight contender, has been sidelined from active competition since he stopped Geoff Neal with a third round standing rear-naked choke back in March at UFC 295 – improving his stunning professional record to 17-0, retaining his blistering 100 per cent finishing rate to boot.

And expected to return at Noche UFC over the course of the weekend, the highly-touted, Shavkat Rakhmonov saw a pivotal clash with former interim middleweight title challenger, Kelvin Gastelum fall to the wayside amid an injury during sparring for the latter.

Not receiving a re-worked pairing for the Mexican Independence Day card, Rakhmonov appeared to be tuning in to watch the above-mentioned, Della Maddalena’s split decision win over Kevin Holland, posting “I’m still available for UFC 294 or UFC 295.” on his official X account

In the midst of a stunning five fight winning spree, Rakhmonov, who has been widely tipped to contender for Octagon spoils in the future, has landed consecutive wins over Alex Oliveira, Michel Prazeres, Carlston Harris, Neil Magny, and the above-mentioned, Neal during his brief Octagon tenure.

And fans have immediately linked Rakhmonov to a potential comeback in November at Madison Square Garden against Australian talent, Della Maddalena – particularly after recent claims from the Aussie that he had the beating of the former.

“I think Shavkat (Rakhmonov) would be a good fight,” Jack Della Maddalena said. “I would like to test myself against him. I think I can beat him.” (H/T Essentially Sports)

Leon Edwards ready to fight Colby Covington in November or December UFC title fight

Undisputed welterweight champion, Leon Edwards is apparently “ready to go” and defend his divisional crown before the year’s end against former interim champion, Colby Covington, however, is still waiting for an offer to cross his desk from the UFC.

Edwards, the incumbent undisputed welterweight titleholder under the banner of the promotion, most recently headlined UFC 286 back in March in London, England – defeating former pound-for-pound number one and ex-champion, Kamaru Usman in the pair’s trilogy rubber match.

As for Covington, the outspoken Clovis native himself has been sidelined since early last year, on that occasion returning to the winner’s enclosure after a title challenge loss to Usman in the pair’s rematch, in a one-sided decision win over arch-rival and former training partner, Jorge Masvidal.

And whilst the pair have yet to officially book their respective Octagon returns against each other, reports have suggested all summer that the promotion would attempt to pair them at UFC 295 in November at Madison Square Garden, if not at UFC 296 in December in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Leon Edwards “ready” for end-of-year fight with Colby Covington

However, according to Leon Edwards’ manager, Tim Simpson, the Birmingham native is “ready” to fight Covington, but an offer has yet to be extended by the organization.

“It’ll be before the end of the year,” Tim Simpson told Submission Radio. “I guess the two cards left are November and December, and they’re finalizing those. Leon is good, he is ready to go, waiting for the call. From my understanding, Colby (Covington) is ready to go, as well. So it’ll be one of those two.”

At the time of publication, UFC 295 features a heavyweight championship fight headliner between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic in November, however, UFC 296 has yet to receive an official headlining clash – potentially leaving space for Edwards’ return grudge match with Covington.
